San Diego Comic-Con 2009: Reggie Hudlin

Babs has a chat with the writer about Black Panther

csimonon July 26, 2009 at 8:08 a.m.
I wish he could stay on black bather I am with you Babs it was one of the best marvel books ever.
Deo Wadeon July 26, 2009 at 9:33 a.m.
Reggie won me over with that one.

I really like this Reggie. I didn't really know who he was and what he was like before but I really like him, and I've always loved his writing.
aouricon July 26, 2009 at 11:06 a.m.
Babs I really have to say that this was one of your most interesting interview for me because of the sensitivity of the of the questions you asked Reggie, which was out standing. When comes to race and comics there are still some areas that people are afraid to talk about as it relates to our everyday life.

As Reggie said you have a bright future ahead of you, fantastic work babs.

Alot of people hate on Hudlin but I personally enjoy most of his work (old and new). His latest run on BP has made the title one of Marvel's best. Glad to hear the BP animated series is still a go, I was wondering if his departure from BET had killed the project before it began. Cool interview. Beach side ;P

But Armless Tigerman? Seriously?

I have to say this was your best interview by far. I liked how you touched on a sensitive topic that people usually shy away from asking.

I loved what Reggie was saying about his critics that they violently disagree with him but yet they read all 40 issues and how they're incensed, when he looks at it as a Win lol. Right on man.

Hudlin made volume four a little.... ehhh. But, I still read it. When volume five dropped, he worked wonders.

I've seen Washington several times on, "Real Time with Bill Maher." Does that count?

Love this interview.  Reggie was excellent. I agree with him that it's important not to cater to the squeaky wheel, but to write what you feel is interesting.

ARMLESS TIGER MAN!! YEEEESSS!!!
FoxxFireArton July 27, 2009 at 12:44 a.m.
GREAT Effin' Work, Babs!!
This was superb work. I really enjoyed this. To even imagine I almost skip watching this one. I can honestly say that this interview got me interested in Black Panther. I look forward to this new animation.
To think that he was head of BET, worked on TheBoondocks, and a comic book writer. When did the man find time to sleep?
I loved Boondocks. My favorite episodes had to be  the Christmas one, and the special about Martin Luther King Jr. I loved the idea of watching his reaction to modern culture. The man had trouble getting into his own rally. I love it at the end when he's so fed up and says, "No, I wont get there with ya'. I'm going to Canada.".

such a in-depth interview, well done!!!

That is the most casual comic book writer I've seen yet

Great interview as always, Babs.

Hudlin's really an interesting guy. I used to hate his BP, but he definitely won me over with the relaunch of the book.

One thing that I disagree with you on, however, is your statement that Hudlin is the one who brought BP to the forefront of Marvel. Christopher Priest's Marvel Knights Black Panther run was what really gave T'Challa the reinvigoration that the character needed in my opinion. Hudlin is painting the white stripes on the road that Priest paved; he's still making an important contribution to the character's legacy, but he didn't lay the foundation for the "Wakandan Renaissance".
