It almost seems perfect that Ryan Reynolds is playing Deadpool since he seems to be talking quite a bit about him lately.  Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of Reynolds and I'm glad he wants to do the character justice this time around.  In another interview with MTV, he seems to have more actual control in how the character will be portrayed in his solo movie (so far).
I love it, because I get to be involved.  And I’m such a huge fan of the character.
How is the movie progressing?  Well, it turns out there isn't even a director or writer yet.  The good news is it seems that Reynolds and the studio are working together to put this together.
I get to be the authentication police, in a weird way.  To their credit — the studio’s credit — they want to make an authentic ‘Deadpool’ movie; they want to make it as close to the source material as possible.

He’s going to be the Merc with the Mouth, [we’re going to give] all those answers that everyone wants.  He’s going to have the scarred-up face, he’s going to be in the suit — and, it’s going to be incredible.

Do you feel this project is in safe hands so far?  My concern is how much control will Reynolds retain once the writer(s) and director are chosen.  Will they still honor his wishes?  From the sounds of it, us comic book fans may be getting what we want.  Will something like that appeal to the non-comic book readers?  Will they accept a movie where the character breaks the fourth wall?  Will they find his constant yammering annoying?  A lot could be riding on this.  This could determine how successful a movie can be that isn't based on a character that everyone is familiar with.  Sure, Deadpool appeared in Wolverine but it's best if people just forget all about that.
