Runaways Movie Casting Call

Maybe YOU could be a Runaway on screen.

Perhaps this is just setting up the inevtiable Avengers/Runaways crossover movie.
Perhaps this is just setting up the inevtiable Avengers/Runaways crossover movie.

Amidst all the THOR trailers, CAPTAIN AMERICA costume pics and AVENGERS logos, it’s easy to miss that Marvel Studios is also putting a RUNAWAYS movie together. Again, no… this isn’t about Joan Jett. This is the Brian K Vaughan/ Adrian Alphona series about a bunch of supervillains’ kids who’re rebelling against their parents in the most positive way - - by fighting for good!  It’s been something of a cinematic stealth submarine in that progress is being definitely made even though Marvel’s keeping it fairly low-key, on the DL, below the surface. The last announcement concerned NICK & NORAH’S INFINITE PLAYLIST director Peter Collete taking the lead on this project and, now, Marvel/Disney is holding open auditions for the flick, which means that you - - yes, YOU! - - maniacs in the Comic Vine community just might have a shot at playing these underage heroes and heroines.

If you go to this site, you’ll see instructions on how to audition for the open casting call. The roles are broken down below, so we can actually make this into a game. See if you can figure out which characters these numbered boys and girls correspond to. Whoever deduces the most gets a No-Prize.  Unfortunately, I don’t fit into either of the guys’ age brackets and, even if I got my braces back on, the breadth of my dramatic abilities wouldn’t allow me to play a 16-year-old convincingly. Hell, I wasn’t even a convincing-looking 16-year-old when I was 16! == TEASER ==

But I digress. Here are the breakdowns…

Boy 1: Very smart, natural leader, in need of a father figure.

Male, African American, must play 16-18

Boy 2: A rebel, ignores rules and authority, wounded inside.

Male, must play 16-18

Girl 1: Uniquely beautiful, nurturing but guarded

Female, must play 16-18

Girl 2: Chubby oddball, smart and verbal

Female, must play 16-18

Girl 3: Conventionally beautiful, with an unchecked ego

Female, must play 15-18

Girl 4: An innocent, wide-eyed and overprotected

Female, must play 8-10

The listing’s saying that the movie’s seven month shoot is supposed to start next January, so I imagine the RUNAWAYS announcements are going to start increasing in profile and frequency.

Thanks to Mr Hulk_Smasin'! for bringing this to our attention.
