President Obama is the man.  Not only did has he become the forty-fourth President of the United States, he also managed to save a comic store in Hoboken, New Jersey.  How exactly did he manage this?  It actually took very little effort on his part.  Because of the sales to Amazing Spider-Man #583 and it's multiple printings (a fourth is on its way), the comic store in question has seen their sales increase.
"Obama saved our sales," said SteveKilnisan, owner of Traders of Babylon. "Otherwise we would have been down, but we're doing better than we were last year at this time, and the year before."

It's not just comic books. Traders of Babylon has also sold more than 2,000 Obama T-shirts. They still have a few Obama trading cards, which are now out of print.

"I don't think he's so much of a cult figure; he's a cool figure," Kilnisan said. "People see him as a ray of hope. America is seen as cool again because of his election."

I would hope that all the excitement of this issue will result in return shoppers to comic stores everywhere.  Comic stores have been facing hard times with the increase in cover price, the decrease of costumers and the number of people that are buying tradepaperbacks in the mass retail book stores.  If comic stores disappear, we won't be seeing as many new comics or characters as we have.  Let's hope the sales continue.

It could've been a stellar issue but it was just an okay one.  I wish they had done more to win over new readers.  It is a little tiresome but from an industry viewpoint, if it increases sales or awareness of comics and comic shops, it's a good thing.  More readers mean more comics for us.  Publishers won't have to cut back on books if everything is up.

Yeah, it is just that comics seam too expensive now and frankly I don't usually buy a lot when I go anyway. Usually, it isn't worth the trip to the store. I can just get trade paperbacks online or in bookstores. I feel really guilty though because the workers at the comic stores are some of the nicest people.

thats awesome only thing i have a problem with is all the hype of obama he became a president woopdie do everyone doesnt need to make it such a big ordeal. But still the fact that he reads comics i heard is pretty chill. Now i feel guilty for buying Watchmen and Marvel Civil War at Barnes and Noble.

he had one and it has yet to sell a copy at the store i work at. the truth is people bought the comic for the possible value it could have (but aside from the first issue it wont) More people called claiming they just wanted it for investment purposes (as if the store would rather sell to a one time buyer who had no interest in anything but the short story at the end of a comic as opposed to a Spidey-fan who wants to read the story, but is inconvenienced by speculators and obamaniacs)
