HBO says no to Preacher

"Too Dark and too violent and too controversial"

Uhm, duh?  This is a shame.  We're all aware that there just isn't enough good television out these days.  I don't need another reality show.  I can't stand them.  It's just weird that HBO would shy away from a show like this.  You'd think they would've learned something after the success of The Sopranos.   They don't have a heavy hitter series with that ending (and even Sex and the City).  Controversy is good.  People want it.

Mark Steven Johnson said this at Comics Continum:

We were budgeting and everything and it was getting really close to going," Johnson told The Continuum. "But the new head of HBO felt it was just too dark and too violent and too controversial. Which, of course, is kind of the point!

It was a very faithful adaptation of the first few books, nearly word for word. They offered me the chance to redevelop it but I refused. I've learned my lesson on that front and I won't do it again. So I'm afraid it's dead at HBO.

I'd much rather see this as a series rather than a movie or series of movie.  Let's hope the right thing happens.
