Can this just come out already?! MARVEL VS. CAPCOM 3’s release is still almost a year away, but the folks behind the game are being downright diabolically-cruel teases with all these promos they’ve been releasing for it. Seriously, my interest and enthusiasm were already at a fever pitch, and if they continue stoking the fires unabated like this, I’m liking to explode, AKIRA-style. The latest rush-inducer is the video below, a second cinematic showing Cap, Chun-Li, Iron Man, Viewtiful Joe, calligraphy-wolf Amateratsu and Trish from DEVIL MAY CRY teaming up against Dr. Doom and the Super-Skrull for a brawl on the S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier. Yes, indeed, it is that crazy. As far as I know, this is also the first appearance MEGA MAN LEGENDS character Tron Bonne had made in any of the promotional material for the game.
Just scroll down and watch the clip already! Believe it or not, it’s actually even cooler than the previous cinematic that had Deadpool dueling with Dante and RESIDENT EVIL’s Chris Reddfield making a valiant underdog stand against the Hulk.
Maybe it’s because I watched CARTOON ALL-STARS TO THE RESCUE at an impressionable age (remember the after-school special that pitted every single Saturday morning cartoon character against the living embodiment of weed?) but I’m an easy mark for a crossover. MARVEL VS. DC, JLA VS. AVENGERS… they’re all special in my book. I want Amalgam wave three, damn it! So you can imagine how excited I am to get this Reese’s solution reuniting my love of Marvel comics and Capcom games in the same peanut butter cup. Actually, after this, I wonder how involved the story’s going to be. The previous games had little-to-no context to frame the fisticuffs, but these guys have already been talking about a MVC3 comic with Frank Tieri and Udon behind it.
Sign me up…but Captain Commando better be in this one!
