The fact that this issue coincided with start of New York fashion week is something I did not realize until I actually read the book itself. Had I not been watching E! the previous night while I was sick in my bed, I probably never would have put two and two together. One thing I really liked about this comic book was the fact that it was so extremely unconventional. As far as the structure of the book, I felt that Marvel put great effort into making the experience of reading 'Models INC' feel almost like you had picked up the latest issue of 'Elle Magazine,' which I found really entertaining. Having said that, I think this book truly caters to a small demographic of comic book readers; the typical male comic book reader between the ages of 13-27 will more than likely have little to no appreciation for the plot line of this particular series. While I do not think that the majority will find this book to be entertaining, I almost half-enjoyed the witty 'Sex and the City' humor, and felt that it was a breath of fresh air to be re-introduced to Marvel characters ( Millie the Model, for example) that we haven't read about since the 1960's.

Did I love this book? No, but it was a fun read.I found myself laughing at some points because I know who Alexander McQueen is. However, even I, a 23 year old female comic book connoisseur, prefers the adventures of Bruce Wayne and Tony Stark to Millie the Model's gossip and shopping adventures.

I like that Marvel is tipping their hat to New York fashion week, (I am a huge fan of the show,) as well as reaching out to a different kind of reader. If you like mindless fun and model behavior, you are sure to be entertained.

O_O  Interesting...

I will refrain from insulting this book based on my hatred for fashion...solely out of respect for someone who enjoyed the book.

Fashion tips of super-heroes... lol

My one fashion tip is aimed at Superman... you don't mix the three primary colours into one outfit... it clashes... well thats what my mom tells me... however Superman is super enough to pull it off! lol

Is is just me or does Millie look like Taylor Swift...

I think it's great that there reviving (at least for a mini) some of Marvel's biggest characters from decades past when superhero comics weren't so common...but otherwise I have no interest in reading this...not my style even in the slightest

ha ha  i think I'll pass on this. Good review though.

One thing I never really understood about models and runways. Why is it they can't smile on the runway?

Somehow, I think the only boys who would enjoy this comics were already 'predisposed' to fashion in the first place. It's fine for girls to have a book they would enjoy. Marvel does really lack in books for women.
The cover is pretty clever. How it mimics popular fashion magazines.

Perhaps you forgot about fashion week due to some sort of time delayed reaction living on the West coast. Sort of like jet lag.
I'm not a big E! watcher. I actually knew about this book a while ago, because I do watch Chelsea Lately. Tim Gunn was was the show promoting his show and the comic. You talk about forensics, mystery novels, classic books, and Japanese culture. I'm with you every second. Talk about fashion, and I feel like a drunk frat boy in a library. I had no idea what you were saying with all those designer names.

I might pick it up.... i'm not a girl....I'm not gay.... yet the fact that Babs said it was fun for 90% of the video intrigues me!!!!

Models are hangers, nothing can distract from the clothes being shown

@pixelized:
I guess that makes some sense, but then why then zoom into their faces at all with the camera if there is nothing being worn, such as glasses, that aren't part of the design?
pixelized moderator on Sept. 17, 2009 at 11:26 p.m.
Because if it's walking down the runway, we still want to see who is wearing it. Also, hair, makeup, accessories.

Wow, lousy job editing at the very end. Sorry about that guys, I submitted the incomplete version! :(

This is the kind of logic is why I can't seem to understand fashion. They shouldn't smile because they don't matter since it's about the clothes. Though they also want to show the face.
Talk about archeology, mythology, or language studies and I can grasp that. The logic on this I'm spacing on. lol
Joey_Jellicoon Sept. 18, 2009 at 4:43 a.m.
Not really a book for a guy, so I'll be skipping this one. But I think Babs would have made a better cover model.

Not my cup of tea, but I might get it for my mom seeing as she loves project runway and Tim Gun.

About zooming in, fashion designers want to see pretty clothes hangers that could display their line effectively. And all that time spent backstage on hair and makeup...there better be a close up. Haha.

I'd say it's not all about the clothes since the clothes are being displayed on a body type most don't have--super tall and thin. Fashion is also a bit of an art form, the clothes, accessories, hair, makeup, the body, the walk, the music, the camera work, additional displays.

But not smiling can also be used as a blank canvas to let the "mood" of the clothing take over without intentionally conveying a facial emotion. Also, uniformity, all the models walk the same way with the same expression it makes a clean, organized looking show.

Poor Babs, you're really struggling to talk... yet you sound husky & alluring!  You should try to do voice overs for the characters like G-Man does ;)

I'm pleased to hear it's F-U-N!  Because that's what I was hoping this would be!  But like you said, just who are Marvel aiming this at?  Comic reading girls don't usually go for the stereotyped stories and characters.  The 'sex in the city' angle has bombed with Marvel Divas.  Any non-comic reading girls aren't going to be interested in comics.  I'm also not sure how characters from 60 years ago would fit in to regular Marvel continuity where characters need to age more.  And my main concern is that dropping fashionable names will only date it, therefore removing any 'timeless' elements to it.

I have to admit, I was tempted by this!  Not just because of the beautiful cover art, but in general to see what a book about normal girls would be like.  And I read in the solicitations something about a murder mystery... but I also have to admit that I was put off by the interior art and mostly by the embarrassment factor.  I can't go in to my local comic shop to buy this.  The guys who know me would rip the piss outta me.  Soooo.... I was tempted to leave it till the whole series had been completed & buy it on the internet instead ;)
