Marvel Unveils "Avengers Art Appreciation" Variants

What would the Avengers have looked like during different time periods?

Variant covers aren't new. We've been seeing them for a while now. What makes a variant worth looking at is when it can stand out from the rest.

Today, Marvel has announced a slew of upcoming variants labeled as "Avengers Art Appreciation." Marvel is answering the question of what the Avengers might have looked like if they "existed throughout the ages." During April, the covers of your favorite series will sport Avengers covers in the styles of the world's greatest artists like Rembrandt, Michelangelo, Monet, and more. These covers will be done by today's artists like Alex Maleev, Michael Kaluta, Gabriele Dell'otto, Greg Horn, Gerald Parel and more.

Deadknighton Jan. 23, 2012 at 11:35 a.m.

Definitely some of the more interesting variant covers I've seen in a while. A fun mix of bold, surreal, and even cute covers.

Michael Kaluta. HUGE fan of his work, excited to see his art here, very impressed. Very interesting assortment of variants-perhaps too many but they are still great to look at.

Very Cool!

Mega_spidey01on Jan. 23, 2012 at 11:45 a.m.

where's nick fury ? why isn't he on the cover with the rest of the avengers?

blur1528on Jan. 23, 2012 at 11:51 a.m.

@Mega_spidey01: Prolly left out to avoid confusion and disconsent. For me it would make sense to show off the white Nick Fury but that would not be wise marketing for the movie coming out in May and people would have out cries about Sammy J Nick Fury on 616 Marvel covers.

InnerVenom123on Jan. 23, 2012 at 11:53 a.m.

My favorite is the last one.

thanosruleson Jan. 23, 2012 at 11:53 a.m.

Poor Hulk...

These are fantastic! I may have to buy some Variants now...

Does anyone know what 1 out of ## these will be?

BatClaw89on Jan. 23, 2012 at 11:54 a.m.

Outside_85on Jan. 23, 2012 at 12:07 p.m.

Wonder if there will be a Hulk as Atlas, standing with the earth on his shoulders? (continuing from the statue cover)

But nice covers.
