Marvel Says, "I Want To Buy It."

Here's something you may never hear about or see again, Lettersofnote reported on a Mr. Randy Schueller, who back in 1982 suggested an idea to Marvel that changed Spider-Man forever:

 The letter, which boasts a stunning letterhead and simply begins 'I want to buy it', was sent in response to an idea Randy had submitted to Shooter's offices; an idea which resulted in Spider-Man donning a black costume for the first time in issue 8 of Secret Wars . Over the years this evolved to become Venom , the symbiote which starred in 2007's Spider-Man 3 . Randy was happily paid $220.00 for his input.

$220 all for asking Marvel to put Spider-Man in a black suit? Awesome. It's such a small, simple request, and Marvel listened to one single fan and rolled with it. Sadly, I don't think things like this would ever happen now-a-days. Could it happen? Maybe, but I feel doubtful. The best part of this letter is that Marvel even offered Randy a shot at writing the script to one of Marvel's biggest mini-series, Secret Wars. I give major "props" to Editor-in-Chief, at the time, for giving a random fan a shot. Think about how big and popular Black-suit Spider-Man became. He's still a huge deal, and all of this because of one fan's suggestion.
 
I'm going to try this myself, here, but never send it to Marvel because I'm entirely too lazy. Anyone else that wants to try this here, go nuts. I'd love to read them. Here it goes.
 
Dear Marvel,
My name is Mat, and I've been a fan of your books since I was a kid. After reading Randy Schueller's recent letter suggesting Spider-Man in a black suit, I've got a suggestion of my own! Over the years, we've seen  a Grey Hulk, Green Hulk, Red Hulk, and even a Blue Hulk. I think you guys should introduce a Yellow Hulk, but he should be very cowardly. That would be cool. Please pay me $220 (1982 rate, please take into account inflation) I take checks only or a replica of Captain America's shield, which goes for about that price.
