They're still waiting...
They're still waiting...
Talk about a roller coaster ride.  The on-again-off-again-maybe-on-again movie seems to be without a director.  George Miller announced on an Australian talk show that he is no longer involved in the movie in any capacity.

Miller also feels that if the movie does go into production again, Warners will most likely try to recast with bigger stars.

The question is, will this movie ever see the light of day?  It would be to their benefit if they could make this movie happen before Marvel's The Avengers hits theatres.  A bigger-more famous cast could help but that sometimes leads to other problems.  Some stars may be too demanding and there's also the problem with trying to schedule shooting for sequels.

I would expect that the studio is scrambling to try to get a big name director attached to this.  With the instability of the project so far, it's hard to say if fans will allow themselves to get excited once any official word is announced.

Director: Bryan Singer (does well with a team film, Nolan won't be able to work with a group of meta-humans as well as singer could, and his film would come off way too dark)
Writer: Michael Dougherty (works well with Singer)

Batman: Bale... If not him then Christopher Meloni
Superman: Casey Affleck
Flash: Ryan Reynolds (He was going to do it originally)
Green Lantern(Jordan): James Mardsen
Wonder Woman: Eva Green
Green Arrow: Matt Damon
Black Canary: Laslie Bibb

BatChaz i hate to break it to you but Superman & Batman aren't going to have a very big part in this movie because I read on more than one site that Batman gets kicked out & Superman gets killed by Doomsday & that it will be focusing on the core members of th Justice League like Green Arrow, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, Hawkman, Flash & Wonder Woman.

Namor1987: Anyone who was originally cast has been dropped from what I've heard. Which means no Common as GL  This movie has gone through several reworkings, earlier this year they said they dropped the idea until they had a chance to do more background on the big characters.

I wouldnt usualy say something like this but I think they should leave batman out of this movie and have his searies be seprate. The realistic gotham story they have going right now is working great and they shouldnt ruin that. Unless they want to kick it off from where the Tim Burton movies left off. jk

Batman should be in there somewhere but I do agree he shouldn't be a major character.  Let the other characters we haven't seen a bunch of times already on the big screen.  I do like a good Batman story but let's see some of the others in action.

I don't see this live-action movie happening any time soon. Mainly because the animated series is still pretty recent, along with the New Frontier: Justice League movie. That was just last year...? Both were very good. I would like to see a live-action movie, if only to erase the live-action Challenge of  the Super-Heroes specials from the '70's.

I honestly can't see a Justice League or another Superman movie without Tom Welling in it. Like him or not, he's been playing Clark Kent for nigh unto a decade (okay, eight seasons), now. Sorry, I was not impressed with the story that Brandon Routh was in, or his performance. As much as I like Bryan Singer - he should have stayed to make X-Men great. Give Richard Donner whatever country or state he wants, so he'll direct the next one. I'm starting to believe that Smallville should make the jump from the small screen to the big screen. And, Superman should launch Justice League. Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale can be involved on the perifery. Superman is the most logical choice, unless a Flash or Green Lantern movie happens. Justice League would be a perfect spotlight for Barry and Hal as the alternate to Clark and Bruce. Arthur, Diana and J'onn would be seen through their eyes. Hal would have a better grasp of it. Barry's mind would just be blown by how fantastic all these people are. Throw in Superman and Batman at the end...Barry's head would explode.

Just my two cents...

Thank god George Miller is off this movie, any future cast can only be an improvement on the previous bunch of nobodies he had lined up. It would have been an embarrassment next to the cast Marvel are assembling for the Avengers movie. Fingers crossed for Katee Sackhoff as Black Canary tho ; )

ok so I'll do a shameless self-promotion, sorry lol

from my DC movie ideas thread/blog:

(rest of the ideas of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, etc here )

World's greatest heroes
World's greatest heroes

The Justice League is one of the best known comic book teams around the world, many different heroes have been part of the Justice League in the many incarnations that the team has had, although the team is usually called "Justice League of America" there have been several other names for the team; Justice League International, Justice League of Detroit, Justice League: Task Force, etc. come to mind.
What better place to introduce Martian Manhunter than with the league
What better place to introduce Martian Manhunter than with the league

Although there have been many different line-ups over the ages, there has always been a "dream team", the original one that was conformed by Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Flash, Aquaman and Martian Manhunter. Now most of the heroes mentioned before have had one of my ideas of how to make a franchise based in them, however there is someone still missing, Martian Manhunter.

That's not a coincidence though, for many readers and writers (me included) Martian Manhunter is the incarnation of what the league represents, that makes the Justice League movie the best place to introduce him  and also in some ways be a plot device for the movie. Martian Manhunter is the last green martian, however the White Martians are still in great numbers and have a great power, they could act as the movie's villains which try to take over the Earth, beating every single one of Earth's champions individually making the need of a superhero team a great one, now I know what you are thinking, this is exactly like the origin of the Justice League in the animated series, well if it ain't broken don't fix it, I've always considered it as a perfect origin for the league.

At the end of the day, everyone would realize that while alone each one of the seven individuals are a force to be afraid of, together they can stop evils that alone they couldn't, true a movie with 7 members doesn't leave much time for character development, but
A new threat rises
A new threat rises
that's for what the individual movies are about, they'll do what needs to be done and you'll watch them do it but you know that at the end of the day in most of the cases, the big changes to the characters will happen in their own movies instead than in the Justice League movie? Or won't they? (Check the idea for a third movie of the Justice League to understand).

Together we stand
Together we stand
A problem that the Justice League has always had is that with so many powerful individuals together on the same team, only a few villains can pose a real threat to them, it's because of this that the Silver age (and Morrison's JLA run after that) proved that most of the best Justice League stories need gods or incredibly powerful mystical beings as the villain to prove how great the threat really is, after all who wouldn't feel scared of an opponent that beat the entire league? One thing is to beat one of the members, but the entire team? That's something that only a few people are capable of.
After all, who else can be the big villain?
After all, who else can be the big villain?

With the team already together, there would need to be a threat that has the power to make every single one of them struggle in order to defeat him, it also needs to be a villain whose only presence makes both the characters and the viewers feel the fear of him trying to take over the Earth, the villain also needs to have a badass actitude and great powerlevels to help him become an instant classic for the people that don't know him or her without it looking forced, that character for me has to be Darkseid.

Potentially the most powerful god in DC, Darkseid has powerlevels that put him above the ones of almost any being in the DCU, not only that but he has been one of the most active villains in the recent years by DC, being the main villain in DC's most recent big even just proves this.

Not even Superman can beat Darkseid alone
Not even Superman can beat Darkseid alone
Darkseid could not only work as a villain that alone can beat the entire Justice League, but also work as a first introduction to Jack Kirby's fourth world, who knows, maybe even throw Big Barda and Mr. Miracle or Orion as supporting cast for the movie to help people know the origins of Darkseid, Apokolips and New Genesis.

To show how powerful Darkseid really is, they could even make Superman punch him without it doing much damage as a way to show that not even the man of steel can defeat him on his own, luckily for him he ain't alone, with the combined might of the entire league, even Darkseid can be beaten and prove that no matter how powerful guys like Wonder Woman, Green Lantern or Superman are, there's always going to be someone stronger, faster and better than them, which leads me to the idea of the trilogy.

The death of Superman, yeah that's right, the best selling graphic novel of all time and the event that changed the status quo of both Superman and the DCU forever made into live-action. Now I know that at first this idea sounds like something that should be made in a Superman movie, that was my first idea, put it as the fourth movie of the new franchise, however after thinking it through I think that the story should be covered in the on e of the Justice League movies.
R.I.P Kal-El from Krypton
R.I.P Kal-El from Krypton

Why you ask? Well I've seen three different takes on the death of superman, one in the comics, one in the justice league animated se r ies and the other in the animated movie. While the last two were good, they both lacked something; the one of the animated series showed perfectly that Superman was an inspiration and a symbol of hope to both heroes and the normal people alike and how his death affected everything as they had lost their champion, perfect except for two things; the guy behind it wasn't doomsday, it was Toyman (wtf...) and it didn't really kill him, it just sent Superman to the future. The animated movie one though, had Doomsday as the guy that finally took Superman down after a duel to the death in which both of them ended dead, however it also lacked something, we saw how Metropolis, Ma Kent, Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen and others were affected by Superman's death, but we never saw how that affected the world or the superhero community.
No one can beat Doomsday...
No one can beat Doomsday...

In my opinion the best way to translate this storyline to the live action movie would be to keep it loyal to the comic, that means combining the two takes in other media, putting Doomsday as the guy that takes Superman down and also make a funeral in which many heroes (both from the league and not) show up to pay their respects, while still showing the way that normal people take it and especially, how the parents of Clark and Lois take the death of Superman.

The movie would feature in half of the time the battle against Doomsday, how Doomsday is able to take down every single one of the members of the league at the same time and his battle against Superman which ended with his death, while the other half would be focused on how the world afronts it, who knows, maybe even make the world do a one minute of silence in memory of Superman.
.....Not even Superman
.....Not even Superman

"But we are all equals in atleast one way, each one of us is willing to do the sacrifices a hero needs to make, even the ultimate one"-Superman

"We are gathered here today, bonded together in a sorrow and loss, we share a precious gift. We are all of us priviledged to live a life that has been touched by Superman, the man of steel possesed many extraordinary gifts and he shared them with us freely, but none of these gifts were more remarkable than his ability to decide what needed to be done and his unfailing courage in doing it, whatever the personal cost. Let us all strive to accept his gift and pass it along as a long life tribute to Kal-El from Krypton, the emigrant from the stars who taught us all how to be heroes.
"-Martian Manhunter
