Jason Todd Returns In A New Mini-Series

Judd Winick answers all the questions about Jason Todd in a new mini-series

A few years ago, the criminal The Red Hood turned out to be an ex-Robin, Jason Todd, the Robin that was beaten to death by Joker with a crowbar. It was a shock to most, since many people voted to kill Jason Todd off in the 80s. Although it was vaguely explained in the Batman run, there's a lot of details missing, like "How did he become the Red Hood?" DC comics is prepared to answer that now.

Writer Judd Winick and artist Pablo Raimondi hope to answer that question in June, with the debut of RED HOOD: THE LOST DAYS, a six-issue mini-series revealing the untold story of the man behind the Red Hood. It’s the tale of an angry young man’s transformation into a deadly villain.

We'll finally know how the boy who tried to steal the tires from the Batmobile became a formidable Batman villain. We got a peak into Todd's history during the Under The Hood storyline in Batman, (Issues 635-638) and now we're going to find out how it all went down. All the questions should be answered. Judd Winick explained why he's so intrigued to do this story.

“I’m thrilled to return to this character, and it’s both a joy and challenge to tackle this new story. LOST DAYS tracks the time from the Red Hood’s rebirth to his return to Gotham. In it, we get to understand this anti-hero in a new way. I think it explains both how he’s sympathetic, and an unrepentant monster. He’s a wonderfully complex character, and I hope this adds some even greater depth to his mythology.”

The first two issues will hit before the release of Batman: Under The Hood DVD to get everyone pumped about the feature film. Get ready for June because this could be a blast!

I'm guessing that he had a bat tool to steal the wheels off the bat mobile. This is going to be good

i hope winick has a good explanation about the jason todd's natural hair color being red and he just dyed it black to placate bruce. that's one of the more stupid retcons i've ever heard.

Why can't they give Jason a look for more than a year? It just takes away from the character.

Well that looks to be a origin series in the time he was training so this may not be him changing his look but it going to an older look for the sake of flashbacks.

I really enjoyed Under the Hood by Winick and i believe he also wrote the GA issues with him, which again were really good. Everything else with Red Hood in has been pretty sub-par so Winick's return to the character is very welcome to me. And he's back in the one costume that suited him as well. Will be reading this.

While I can't wait for a Red hood series, I do hope it's under the current continuity, and not a flashblack series, but if judd wants to ignore grant morrison's current blend between Earth 1 and 2 Jason i.e. the ridiculous red hair I'll do a little rejoicing.

@Tyler Starke: ... im curious... wasnt Todd always a Ginger... cuz i thought he was the Ginger Robin that got voted to be killed off because he looked silly as a Ginger Robin... and now that hes a Ginger... its actually "hes a Ginger again"... and not "hes a Ginger now"...

@Everyone: WHy was Jason Todd Voted off to be killed off?
iLLituracyon March 18, 2010 at 5:24 p.m.
That was Pre-Crisis Jason Todd who was in the Circus that was a red-head. When he was re-introduced in Batman in the issue where Batman and Jason Todd first met--this time he was a thief who boosted cars for tires, he did not have red hair, he had black.

I don't think Morrison would make an error like that and this is a retcon of post-Crisis Jason Todd having red hair.

Dig Deeper into Jason Todd

Jason Todd was the second Robin, brutally murdered by the Joker. He later rose from the grave, turning against Batman for failing to avenge his death. Now on a path to redemption, Jason uses the skills Batman taught him as an antihero outlaw under the Joker's former identity: Red Hood.
