The DC writer sits down and talks to us about his upcoming projects!

When Isotope Comics is involved, then you know that it is a guaranteed fantastic event! The San Francisco comic book shop teamed up with Bloomingdale's in San Francisco, Details magazine and Warner Brothers to host a signing in the popular department store. The turn-out for the event was fantastic in that it allowed fans of the heralded DC writer to meet him, and have a 'Batman martini' to boot! As always, James Robinson gives us a taste of his witty British humor in addition to some insight on what he plans on working on in the future. We discuss his love for Donna Troy, in addition to his plans for the 'Blackest Night: Starman' one-shot set for release this January.

I know what you might be thinking, "Bloomingdale's? Why?" If you stop to think about it, it does seem to make a lot of sense. In fact, one can go so far as to say that it is a good reflection of the way the industry seems to be shifting. With Lady Gaga getting her own comic book (sold only at select Marc Jacobs retailers,) and Hollywood looking to comic books for inspiration and new franchises to build; it makes sense that an event like this one could take place in the high fashion forward department store. Overall, it was a fantastic event and James Robinson was an absolute pleasure to talk to. A big 'thank you' to all those people involved in putting the fantastic event together.

I missed so much of James Robinson's Superman run I think I'll buy it when the collection comes out next year.

That was dope.  SUPERMAN has been fantastic for a little over a year now.  I'm glad that MON-EL is getting his due.

I was sorta relieved that he said that Jack isn't coming just for Blackest Night

Great interview Babs!

I opened my store with a mission to introduce new people to the world of comics by getting them into the people's hands (here's an article I wrote for Comic Book Resources about this very topic back in '03: http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=14530) so getting to throw an event like this at a place like Bloomingdale's really was a dream come true.

An alternate title for this post could be "James Robinson Wants Threesomes".

Sara and James bringing some serious style to the comicbook realm. If you turned off the volume, you'd never know this was an interview revolving around comics. James Robinson seems really cool. You asked some great question and he obviously had no problem delivering an uncandid interview.

Comicbook parties at Bloomingdales? Very innovative.

Babs asking the tough questions. Asking about Cry For Justice # 2, completely awesome.

Robinson seems like an awesome dude.  I dig his earlier work, but his new work is either hit-or-miss for me.

Its oddto hear him get backlash on a piece of dialog about comic book characters. Like he said, " its just sex, get over it."

I like his common sense - what "event" is really going to be big enough to warrant Jack coming back. Especially when there is like one every week. I'm happy just to re-read the series and enjoy it, than tarnish it by having Jack come back frequently to be part of a crisis. It would be hard to miss him if he was always still around. As opposed to other characters who are basically waiting for that one great story by that one great creative team. Like Green Lantern. I liked the '90's reboot, but I'm liking the Johns run just as much. Not sure characters like Aquaman, Hawkman, or Martian Manhunter will ever get that kind of treatment. The Flash may be headed for some really good times like GL. Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman may be beyond hope, because of their mass appeal factor. I'm really torn about giving his JLA a try based solely on his salesmanship and personality. Are Clark, Bruce and Diana coming back and will Donna, Dick, Victor and Mon-El get pushed aside? Is Roy a part of his League? Are we talking about a Justice League or another iteration of the Titans. If Roy's there with everybody else, where's Garth and Gar? You got your Aquaman and your Martian Manhunter stand-ins. I'm just sayin'...
