“I liked that BEFORE it was cool!”

It’s a phrase heard out-loud, online, and written in many steamy love letters around the world. People declaring their undying love for a certain thing by making the claim that they loved it before it was cool. They declare that they aren’t part of the bandwagon, they are true believers, and have followed the trend before it was a trend… Do I doubt what these people say? Not always, most of the time I don’t care. There are a few times in “I liked that before it was cool” history where I’ve gotten a little ticked off (Hating Ben Affleck, Loving Obama), but I’ve never really said to anyone “I like this band/comic/movie/etc BEFORE anyone else did.” It’s not my style.

HOWEVER, I’m going to bare my ever-growing lonely soul to all of you today, and possibly bring centuries of shame onto my family by letting you all know… I liked that AFTER it was cool. Here are some times I’ve jumped on the bandwagon!

  1.  Comics (Twice): That’s right, I 100% will tell you, I jumped onto reading comics during the 90s comic craze. I always loved my X-Men and Batman toys, but those two shows really made me start reading religiously. Not only that, but I stopped reading in 1996, only to pick up reading yet again in 2003, when comics became popular again. I’m a repeat offender for reading comics. Man, I’m a poseur.
  2. Doctor Who: This one is really hard to admit, but yes… I jumped on Doctor Who when it became uber popular in the first season of the new show. Now, when I was a kid, I did watch quite a few stories from the Sylvester McCoy years, but I didn’t start obsessing until season 1 of the new stuff.
  3. Da Bears: yeah, not as pathetic as you think. Jan. 26th, 1986, I was on the fast-track to becoming 4 years old, and sat in front of the tube with my parents. This was the first football game I can remember. The Bears putting an immense hurt on the Patriots. It was from that point on, after listening to the Super-Bowl shuffle that I began my love-affair with The Bears.

So, those are the big three, even though the Bears one might not count... It's fine to jump onto the bandwagon... You'll be in good company if you do, but do we really have to claim "i got here first" every time? Does it even matter?
Any times you guys have jumped on? Are you willing to admit it?

I've got on the bandwagon for Dr. Who then went back and watched all the old stuff, I liked comics since I was a kid, but i kept that to my self, now I'm more open about my geekiness,  there are definitely a few things I got on the bandwagon for

I started reading comics in the 90's too and it was because of the Spider-man and Batman animated series to so don't feel bad

I've tried to watch Doctor Who but I just can't seem to get into it and when I did try it was because of all the people on here talking about how great it was

The Bears suck

I don't think it's bad to start liking something because it got "cool" ...not everyone out there is as hip and into the underground trends as the kids on the CW are...a lot of the things I get into are because of solid word of mouth advertising and I see no problem with it

I liked Comics when I was in elementary and middle school but never got really into comics like I am now, I was more so into the action figures then. LOL! But now I am hardcore on the comic book bandwagon for a few years now. I would say I get at least 15 books or more a month minimum so yeah I'm riding the wagon and I don't ever plan on getting off it!

I'm usually the sniper taking out stragglers in the bandwagon until eventually it all falls but I read Watchmen when it was declared cool, otherwise I probably never would've even considered it

I don't really claim to have been a Whovian from the first time around... mainly because back then I was too busy hiding behind the sofa to consider myself a 'fan'.

1.The Chicago Bulls-never knew they existed until everyone wanted to "Be like Mike"
2.The Philadelphia 76ers-Only liked them because of the fandom behind Charles Barkley and later behind Allen Iverson
3.The L.A Lakers-I had no idea who Kobe was..he wins the dunk contest rookie year, people star liking him,he became my favorite player..thus making me a Lakers fan
4.Poke'mon-you cannot resist they are soooooo cute
5.Jordan's-When I was 13 my girlfriend wore Jordan's pretty much everyday. The more I saw them the more I liked them.

Man I just got back into comics about six or seven months ago. Even though I haven't bought any since early 90's. That's why I stay away from those debates where facts are being flung around like a chihuahua  in a pit bull's mouth. I more learn from them than anything. Comic movies have also had their hand in getting me back into comics.

"Da bears, da bears, da bears, da bears." ya'll remember that old SNL skit with Chris Farley and George Went??? Classic...

with the doctor i knew what it was before the new show cause my mam used to watch the old series when she was young and talked about it when the movies came on so when the new series i was on the bandwagon.

for other bandwagons i liked pokemon before my friends knew about it and liked it after everyone hated it
and for any thing from trasformers to ninja turtles i could say liked befor it was cool cause alot of that stuff was never considered cool over here

I thought tweens were the only ones who thought that pokemon was cool

since everybody else is going with sports teams

1. The 49er's
2. the Dolphins
I started liking them back in the day when they were both great teams

@inferiorego:  yep, with ol' Rodman, Pippen, Kukoc, Grant,  who was their PG, I forgot his name, and lets not forget Jordan. Perhaps I jumped on a bandwagon with them. But when Rodman came I was super on the wagon.

By admitting to "bandwagon jumping" I'd then be jumping on the bandwagon of this topic no? Everyone jumps on a bandwagon at some point. They may not even realize it at the time. By liking something first before its cool your actually on that particular bandwagon of liking things before their cool. See :) Whether your driving the bandwagon or simply a passenger, we're all in the same wagon lol.

Couple of bandwagons I'm currently on.
  • The Loving Megan Fox cause everyone hates on her Bandwagon
  • The admiring Micheal Jackson simply cause he's dead Bandwagon
  • The hating Deadpool cause his fanboys have taken over Bandwagon
  • The posting in every thread Babs makes Bandwagon
  • The turning my Twitter avatar green to support Iran Bandwagon
  • The Twitter Bandwagon
  •  The acting like I'm not on a Bandwagon when really I am Bandwagon
  • The Sports Bandwagon. If your winning I'm backing ya (cept the Lions. I'm always down wit the Lions)
