There are less candidates in the mix, to be sure, but the casting race to play Peggy Carter in the CAPTAIN AMERICA movie is proving to have almost as many switchback turns as the race to play Cap, himself. Last week, we let you know that, Emily Blunt turned an offer from Marvel for the role and, instead, might be considering a role in BATMAN 3. Her departure left fellow British actresses Keira Knightley (PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN) and Alice Eve (SHE’S OUT OF MY LEAGUE) in the running. The latest news states that Knightley has dropped out, too, while another actress from across the pond has entered to compete with Eve.
That actress is Hayley Atwell, whose biggest roles have been in THE DUCHESS and spots on the recent PRISONER remake mini-series and DR. WHO. She and Eve will both be doing a second screentest for the role in London tomorrow (according to Geek Tyrant). I haven’t seen either of these actresses at work, so I really can’t vouch on either’s behalf. Supposedly, Marvel’s decision will actually be informed by fan response they observe on sites like this, so the POWER IS IN YOUR HANDS! Who do you want… Eve or Atwell? It’s an election you don’t have to fill out form for nor hide inside any curtained booth to vote in.
