Green Arrow Might be Coming Back to Television

Is there a place for the Emerald Archer on TV?

It wasn't that long ago that we saw Green Arrow on television on an almost weekly basis. On Smallville, Justin Hartley was seen fighting evil along Tom Welling's portrayal of Clark Kent. Many thought after Smallville ended its tenth season we'd see a continuation with Hartley reprising the role. That didn't happen but it appears that The CW hasn't lost faith in the character.

According to InsideTV, The CW is giving thought to bringing superheroes back to a television near you. A pilot has been ordered, which doesn't guarantee a show will actually happen but it's a step in the right direction.

Don't expect Hartley to return as he is not involved with the project. The executive producers/writers are Greg Berlanti (Brothers & Sisters) and a couple names that should be familiar to comic readers, Andrew Kreisberg (Vampire Diaries, Fringe) and Marc Guggenheim.

No further information is available. Green Arrow joins Booster Gold, Deadman, Spectre and Blue Beetle in the list of DC characters with a television show in some stage or production. Hopefully we'll start seeing more progress on these potential shows.

Thanks to The Dark Huntress for the tip.

Hopefully this one's about adult Ollie. Maybe the pilot will be Year One.

eh I might give it a try if Justin Hartley isn't reprising his role.

Yes, let's hope it's not "The New 52" version.

Mercy_on Jan. 12, 2012 at 10:56 p.m.

I'm really apprehensive about how they're going to handle this. They tried to make the DCnU version new and cool and hip and to be frank, it absolutely sucked.

In addition, Justin Hartley is the PERFECT Green Arrow, IMO. He was some of the best casting in that entire show.

Justin Hartley really wasn't very good, and Smallville's GA went south after season 7. Let's hope they take their cue from Year One, and not Smallville.

I don't know why they would use the Year One version guys. Imagine trying to sell that pitch to the tv execs.

"So he's an archer, but...he only has one arm."

I want an Ollie like the one from volume 4. That'd be perfect.

ArturoCalaKayVeeon Jan. 12, 2012 at 11:25 p.m.

I want Ollie with the robin hood type beard and outfit. My favorite ollie. This new, hip, ollie is a bitch. GIVE HIM BACK THE STACHE!

They need to make a live action batman show again, and if they do they should have Bat in the Sun production to do for they make the best batman fanmade films ever.

Could be actually a good idea. Bring it on I say!

TheWitchingHouron Jan. 13, 2012 at 1:10 a.m.

I don't know why people are hating on Justin Hartley, I thought he was a great Green Arrow. The material didn't always serve him as best as it could have.

Good news!

Wait, no... more teen-hitech-Batmanysh GA? This means we will continue to get the same GA in comics...again....

When's Ollie gonna be back in due form in comics?

And by due form I mean Mike Grell-like.

ComicMan24on Jan. 13, 2012 at 3:27 a.m.

If done right, I am ok with it. And I liked Hartley's portrayal of the character.

Outside_85on Jan. 13, 2012 at 3:35 a.m.

Still hoping for Raven.

ComicCrazyon Jan. 13, 2012 at 4:31 a.m.

Oh yeah this would be sick....he was like one of the best parts of Smallville.

The_Treeon Jan. 13, 2012 at 4:46 a.m.

Hopefully it turns out to be great, I'd have no problem with Hartley, as I liked his performance. But an adult Ollie with the goatee and all would be awesome! Hopefully it's not Relaunch-Ollie.

I would watch a Green Arrow television series.
