The voting for the first three categories has closed and the winners have been announced.

For the COMIC VINE picks:

Best Writer: Brian Michael Bendis

This was tough.  Bendis may not be my absolute favorite writer but he knows how to spin a tale.  He is willing to make decisions that sometimes piss readers off.  Secret Invasion showed the results of his long term plan.  There might have been some minor weak points in the story but it involved the entire Marvel Universe and set the stage for a new outlook.  Things are going to change.  Let's not forget that he's also responsible for New Avengers, Powers, Ultimate Spider-Man, etc.

Best New Character:   Kick-Ass

Kick-Ass is the kid in all of us that not only dreamed of becoming a superhero, he actually went out and did something about it.  He refused to give up, despite the beatings he takes, he keeps on going.

Ashely Barton came a close second.  I'd like to see more of her character but she doesn't have the longevity that Kick-Ass does (being in an alternate future).  Let's hope Kick-Ass has another kick-ass year.

Best Publisher: Marvel

Marvel is a power house.  I may not like every single comic they put out but they do have lots of great titles.  They know how to deliver the goods and how to pump the PR machine.  Marvel has gone to great lengths to promote themselves even when it wasn't always necessary.  They've taken some big risks that alienated fans (*cough, Brand New Day*) but have come out strong.  Marvel's crossover story arcs seem to have more steam than the other publishers as well.  With an army of great characters, it's hard to not enjoy Marvel Comics.
