First Look At The 'Karate Kid' Movie Poster

Wax on, wax off

Another summer, another re-make! The Karate Kid has been picked up by Sony and will star Jackie Chan (Mr Han, similar to the original Mr. Miyagi character from the original film,) opposite Will Smith's son, Jaden Smith (The Pursuit of Happyness) who will play Dre Parker. The film follows a young Dre, a video game nut, who recently moves to China. The language barrier creates problems for Dre, who begins to get beat up at school and as a result, learns both martial arts and Chinese from his mentor (Chan's character).

In a recent interview with People Magazine, Jackie Chan revealed that he was "very impressed" by Jaden's work ethic.

He took the training very seriously. I was very impressed with him.

During the interview, it was revealed that some of the filming also took place on the Great Wall of China, leading me to believe that audiences can expect some pretty panoramic film scenes. Sony also released the official film poster (above) and we added some photos from the set of the upcoming film, courtesy of Geek Tyrant. Okay, after reading about the plot and overall theme for the upcoming film, I'll admit I am not completely sold on the idea of remaking the classic 1984 film. It is nothing against Will Smith's son, Jaden Smith, but it does seem like a lot of weight to put on the shoulders of a kid with very little acting experience. What do you think? Are you looking forward to the film? Are you tired of all of the re-makes? Do you think Hollywood needs to come up with some original ideas?

What do you guys think of the images from the upcoming movie, which will be hitting theaters June 11th, 2010?

I feel like i'm not going to like this.I love Jackie Chan (no homo) but I don't have any faith in Will's kid.I'll wait to see the trailer than I'll make a judgement.

I thought this was going to be about the Legion of Super-Heroes Karate Kid...but I'd guess they'd have to make a Legion of Super-Heroes movie first...

I'll watch it, but I really dont understand why they couldnt have just taken the premise of Chan's character teaching or guiding Smith's character and make an entirely new movie, as opposed to remaking the Karate Kid.

I never saw any Karate Kid movie, so I have no problem with a remake. I'm also excited to see Jackie Chan, he looks pretty old in this. :P

Jaden Smith can actually act and Jackie Chan is (almost) always watchable. I'm not going to pan this before I see it.

hahaha I love that scene, that entire episode in fact.

As for this so called remake, why don't they save a lot of backlash and separate it from The Karate Kid if it's going to be so different? Crazy Hollywood business men.

@Decept-O: It was posted in the wrong forum. Simple mistake that is currently in the process of being corrected.

Yeah some people are quick to judge. This might not be better in the eyes of people who hold near and dear to the nostalgic original films like a security blanket, but lets remember that this cannot be worse then The Next Karate Kid, sure it had Pat Morita still but seriously. I welcome this movie as a challenge, to see if it will be close or on par within my own expectations with the Karate Kid.
