Despite Rumors, Wolverine 2 Is Still On Track

The plan is to start shooting in the spring, in fact.

Logan's getting anxious, waiting to start...

How about a little rumor control? Moviehole posted a scoop recently the (now long-in-development) Wolverine sequel had been delayed even further due to indeterminate difficulties in securing a shoot in Japan. That would seem to be the latest of many problems the pan Pacific location's brought onto this production. Not only was shooting pushed back initially due to lasting effects from the devastating earthquake the country suffered, it was also delayed even further due to director Darren Aronofsky finding the long overseas commitment to be too great to fit in with his family life.

Well, it would seem that way, anyway. Joblo’s has recently set the record straight, clarifying that the flick’s pre-production is still on track with the current director, James Mangold, aiming to start shooting in the spring (presumably right after Hugh Jackman finishes with Les Miserables.) And that does sound more likely.

Despite anything else, the first Wolverine flick still brought in close to $400 mil when all was said and done . This sequel is going to happen, for sure, regardless of any delays. The fact that is has been going through these false starts (which will likely seem insiginicant in hindsight) goes to show how tough it is to even get a sure bet like this off the ground.

I want an X-Man movie every two years. Seems like we'll be on track for Summer 2013.

Wolverine 2: Wolverine Harder

But seriously, after the suckfest that was Origins, I'll never take another Logan movie seriously again.

Fool me once with X3, shame on you. Fool me twice with Origins, shame on me.

@phrainiac_crazeee: First Class was ok.

Good to hear that it sounds like the shooting schedule is more concrete, the beginning of shooting will have been delayed for over a year before they finally start.

Question: Why is Marvel even making a squeal to this? I thought it was a flop. Also, I noticed they want to do a #2 with Ghost Rider too. Marvel, make movies like X-Men: First Class and Iron Man, if you want me to watch them.

i hope if they redo the lab scene they base it off what bryan singer did in x-1 and 2.

As much as I want to see the rights of the X-Men go back to Marvel, if they are doing a sequel to the horrible Origins film they should at least try and get it right by casting Kelly Hu back to play Yuriko in a film that's based out on Japan.

It'll take a lot more than an adamantine bullet to the head to stop a Hollywood studio's lust for cash in sequels.

Everyone, let's make an appeal to Barack Obama. Have him strike a deal that if he goes on Fox News and says anything they want him to say, News Corp will surrender all franchise rights to Marvel Studios. He is a comic fan afterall. He can't be happy about how this series turned out.

Heh.

Why does everyone think Marvel studios would make a better X-Men movie...most of the films they have overseen have been mediocre at best....in fact a lot of people have stated that First Class was the superior comic film this year, which was made by ........*dramatic pause*......not Marvel studios

I agree not every X-men movie was great, but at least it was something different, I hate when the films follow the comic to the letter...if they all did that, you wouldn't have movies like "The Dark Knight" for example

Who said they wanted a literal comic adaptation? Not me. I have a degree in film and have worked as a screenwriter and director. Film is a different medium entirely from comics.

I actually agree that Marvel Studios has released merely good-at-best films so far, with the exception of the fantastic first installment of Iron Man. However, even their mediocre turns so far have been watchable and largely entertaining, unlike X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Fantastic Four, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Daredevil, Elektra, Spider-Man 3, Ghost Rider, Punisher: War Zone, and Man-Thing. Marvel properties in Marvel's hands has yet to turn out anything terrible for the silver screen. Given the track record of the superhero genre, that's a decent score card.

At the end of the day, Fox and Sony will only care about quality in as much as they can milk it for money. Sure, Marvel and Disney are looking for profit, but it's their properties. It's their game to lose.

Additionally, I'd very much like to see potential crossovers. A shared cinematic universe is preferable to the fragmented ones that still taunt fans.

Ah, I didn't mean to put words in anyones mouth, I was just venting.....Seems to be a common complaint about "the rights reverting back to Marvel" like its going to instantly equal a great movie, ya know??  Its just kind of asinine to think that. The X-Men have many factors that make it difficult to portray thema good film, including edgy plot points and a large roster, What Singer did with the first two X films was magic IMO...

Marvel has always had financial trouble, so its not surprising to see them sell out there characters constantly, I just wish they would not do it as much...I believe the reason their movies are bland most of the time is due to rushed production from hasty film companies

I felt like the Marve cinematic universe was just a silly way to say "hey!! just wait for the Avengers" Honestly I feel there is a lot of unnecessary parts to these films and also I feel that it cheapens the explanation of certain aspects, For instance in the beginning of Captain America Red Skull explains that the cosmic cube is from Asgard or something of that sort, If you have never seen Thor, or if you are not familiar with Nordic lore...you have no idea what they are talking about
