DC Unveils David Finch's Batman: The Dark Knight #2

Where do you think this series will take us?

David Finch + Batman is all most of could ask as a result of Finch going exclusive to DC. I have to admit that when I first heard the news, I DC would just have him doing covers. Cover images are great but it's one of my pet peeves when the cover has awesome art and the interior doesn't even compare (or is simply a completely different style).

We know that David Finch will be drawing and writing the upcoming Batman: The Dark Knight series (issue #1 is out on November 24). The series will be taking Batman into the "more supernatural and esoteric areas of Gotham City." Today, DC's The Source unveiled the cover image for issue #2.

What could make this series interesting (besides Finch's art) is it's going to deal with the "horrific murder of one of Bruce Wayne's childhood friends." This could either add to Bruce's character or come across as another made up bit from his past. I'm really hoping that it will add to Batman's character. It should also be interesting to see how Finch does as an artist and writer.

Do you like the idea of Batman going dealing with supernatural elements? Are you digging that cover?

I can only say that that just looks amazing

Looks like Bruce got himself some new gloves too. Those ought to hurt.

I would want it to add to Batman's character.

Awesome, can't wait. I'll be buying every bat book the second Bruce returns.

that cover has so much depth and expression, its most likely going to lead the story, hopefully the interiors will look just as awesome! :D

Any Death, whether form his past or present will effect him, but a  close friend from his past should defiantly. plus I can't wait to see how she dies

Though I traditionally do not feel that supernatural stuff fits in with the the Batman world,
I am 110% excited for this series, Also...

Penguin FTW!

Art looks amazing but I'm not sold on David Finch's storytelling abilities. I'm not one that likes writer/artist combinations. There are only a few writer/artists I like e.g Tony Daniels and Scott Kolins but apart from that, I don't like the whole idea tbh.

Digging the covers for this title.
But I would say I am still a bit skeptial with the supernatural concept.

Great-looking cover, and yet... I guess I'm one of the few who aren't excited about Finch working on Batman. At all.

He draws great-looking covers, but he can't draw the same face twice to save his life. It bothers me immensely when characters look jarringly different from one panel to the next (which tends to happen very often with Finch), to the point where it will spoil my enjoyment of the comic.

Even putting consistency issues aside, I generally dislike the way he draws faces: one mousy, pointy-chinned, tiny-nosed model for females, one ridiculously hunky, Ron-Moss-jawed model for males. I can't say I care much for his excessive use of hatching/cross-hatching, either; it can look great (like on this cover), but sometimes, too much is just too much.

The entire Gotham side of DC is probably my favourite area across all DC and Marvel comics, but this is one book I'm not particularly looking forward to. When his exclusivity deal with DC was announced, I actually hoped it would be limited to covers. No such luck. :(

Great cover but.... Has Finch written other comic books before?

It's clearly gonna be another made up bit from his past.
How many childhood friends did Bruce have that we never get to meet untill some hack writer wants to make 'em up?
Tommy Elliot and now this guy?
If Bruce had these close childhood friendships wouldn't he have almost completely lost touch while training to be Batman?
Or maybe kept in touch if they matter to him at all?

It's weak.
The art will be nice but the story will be terrible.

And supernatual Bat stories?
Please DC just get a decent crime writer on Batman again.

If people knew Bruce then they should run away before they go crazy or die. Scott Snider will have a SCI detective crime take on Detective Comics only it will star Dick Grayson.
