Blackest Night Ups the Ante (Anti-Monitor, that is)

He's back in black!

As Agent Smith would say, it was inevitable.

I don't know, it's dark.  Maybe it could be somebody else?
I don't know, it's dark.  Maybe it could be somebody else?

When he was last seen, at the conclusion of the SINESTRO CORPS WAR, the Anti-Monitor’s disembodied, wailing spirit had landed on a mysterious planet and been forged, by forces unseen, into the power source of the Black Lanterns' big battery.   Now, Anti-Monty’s back as a card-carrying, ring-wearing, sigil-bearing member of the Black Lantern Corps itself as that cover to March’s GREEN LANTERN CORPS  #46 will attest to.

Black Lantern's Power
Black Lantern's Power

The Anti-Monitor’s getting to be like a great big cosmic scab.   Just when you think you’ve torn him off for good, he comes back meaner and even more rotten than before.

Adam Schlagman released the Greg Horn cover above to DC’s official blog, the Source, today along with this poetic press-release of doom...

First the Black Lantern Corps rose from the Crypt on Oa decimating the planet and many Lanterns in their horrific path.

Then Kyle Rayner’s brush with death and a Black Lantern ring resulted in Guy Gardner being blinded by great rage as he transformed into a Red Lantern killing machine.

All this tragedy and devastation led to the collapse of the Green Lantern Central Power Battery.

How could writer Peter J. Tomasi and artist Patrick Gleason make things any worse for our Emerald Warriors?

How about the return of one of the greatest threats the DC Universe has ever known: THE ANTI-MONITOR?

So what do you think, oh maniacal Comic Vine community? What effect will this surprise competitor have on BLACKEST NIGHT? When DC’s heroes have Nekron against the ropes, will he be tagging out to him?

Why do I have a feeling another Flash is going to die.... again?
Nighthunteron Feb. 4, 2010 at 9:32 a.m.
You know? It's a good thing that in comics good always ends up winning because between BL Spectre, Supermen, Firestorm, Aquaman, Hawks, Doctor Fate, Martian Manhunter, etc. etc,  etc. Nekron, Black Hand, etc. etc. and now Anti-monitor then the heroes would be f@cked up in so many ways
MichaeltheFlyon Feb. 4, 2010 at 9:39 a.m.
I hope the Anti-monitor regains control over his body and crushes Nekron, and takes control of his undead legion. But let's be serious this could never happen.

It is presumed he guided them in creating their central battery, but nothing direct.

...wow...Black Lantern Anti monitor...Nekron has indeed gotten powerful

Black Lantern Anti-Monitor... Whoa. DC is really making it hard to be a Green Lantern these days & it's good thing that "Brightest Day" is coming soon, but at what cost to the Lantern Corps.

black lantern anti-monitor is awesome
AtPhantomon Feb. 4, 2010 at 10:29 a.m.
I really don't think Anti-monitor will be Nekron's willing slave in this. My guess is he'll break himself loose from the power battery and start causing havoc, no matter whose side you're on.

No prob.
goldenkeyon Feb. 4, 2010 at 10:34 a.m.

I still wanted to see some of the black lanterns act like green lanterns and use their rings to make constructs.  hasn't happened.

i thought it had kinda come to the conclusion that they can, they are just used to consume hearts, register emotion and animate the dead

Maybe in doing so he'll facilitate some resurrections of black lanterns?

I just want to know what happened to Sodom Yat.I'm guessing he's just sun-dipping and will return cured of his lead poisoning or something but I guess they had to find a way to bench him so he didn't just run all over the Black Lanterns...well most of them at least maybe not the Anti-Monitor.

@AtPhantom: On Neckrons wiki page it says he first became aware of the world of the living after an imortal was killed.  That break in reality allowed him to look through.  Scar has been influinced by Neckron because she was an imortal who became injured.  I think we can classify has an imortal if not close to and in his weakened state after the sinestro corp attack on earth Nekron was able to use the anti-monitors power to forge the black central battery
Primmaster64on Feb. 4, 2010 at 1:18 p.m.
Is he going after Prime i wonder.

What does this have to do with my post?

Dig Deeper into Anti-Monitor

The Anti-Monitor is believed to be The Monitor's counterpart from The Antimatter Universe. He is responsible for the original Crisis on Infinite Earths, he was the sole Guardian of The Sinestro Corps and was once, against his will, the source of The Black Lantern Corps Central Power Battery.
