Bendis Confirms MOON KNIGHT Ending With Issue #12

The April, 2012 issue of MOON KNIGHT will be the final of the series.

If you read the solicits for Marvel's MOON KNIGHT recently then you may have caught a hint at the fact that issue #12 of the series will be the finale for both the series' headliners, writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Alex Maleev. Some fans hoped that just because the two comic creators were leaving the book, did not mean the series would be coming to an end. Unfortunately, that was not to be.

MOON KNIGHT #11
MOON KNIGHT #11

The news came earlier today from Bendis himself who revealed both he and Maleev would not only be leaving the series following MOON KNIGHT #12, but that no other creative team would be taking it over. That's right. The Moon Knight series is officially coming to an end.

Look at it as a 12 issue maxi series that kicked incredible ass which was what me and Alex were hired to do. I do wish it sold better and I do wish it was continuing with another team but I wish that about every comic on earth.

I am grateful we got to do our entire 12 issues. When you get to 12 you'll see we got to tell our entire story uninterrupted which is very nice. For you guys that supported it you'll have a nice whole thing.

There is a some light at the end of this dreary tunnel, however, as Bendis did indicate that he and Maleev would be returning to work on SCARLET, the writer's creator owned series published through ICON. While this is great news for SCARLET fans who haven't seen an appearance from the heroine since April. 2011; it is still a little bit bittersweet for Moon Knight fans who have been thoroughly enjoying the series. The next issue of MOON KNIGHT (#10) hits store shelves on February 29th, 2012.

I'll say what I said in the other forum: I never read the series but it's always a shame when a 'small time' hero's ongoing is canceled. Plus the art was very pretty. And it was good that Echo had a place again. Although then again the whole concept of the series was a deliberate attempt in cashing in on the success of other heroes and trying to assosciate them with a minor one. I just find that insulting to the character. Not having faith in a character like that is shameful.

Um... I'm guessing @G-Man: is not taking this piece of news very well.

It was awful. I lost all interest 5 issues in, and sales agreed with me. Bye Moon Knight.

I don't think that's why the book was cancelled. If the guy who wrote half of Marvel's best selling comics for the last 4-5 years can't keep his book afloat and his book has constantly been cancelled (He's going on like Volume 8 now), maybe it's Moon Knight and not the writers.Maybe he's just not interesting enough.

@Vance astro Eh...it's hard for me to consider bends as a writer. But I agree that mk has never held much interest to me.

It seems sad to me that people who claim to be big Moon Knight fans are voluntarily not purchasing his current running series, which is essentially creating a self-fulfilling prophecy when they follow it up by saying "It's gonna be cancelled anyway." or some other kind of critique because people can't seem to handle the status-quo changing.

I don't feel like the Avenger personalities were given to Spector as any form of sales pitch to get readers, in fact - I think it's done well and with taste and understanding of where the character has come from and is on his way to becoming. I think we're simply seeing visual manifestations of what he is thinking, and they're taking shape in the form of people whose ideals he shares - at least on some level. Cap's honour, Spidey's nobility and good heartedness, and Wolverine's pragmatism, values similarly reflected in the former trio of Spector/Lockley/Grant. He is NOT a "one man Avengers team".

I think it's a breath of fresh air to see them walking away from something that for 30-ish years has obviously not helped Moon Knight get off the B-List. This cancellation pretty much guarantees more of the same, and he'll fall into the background of Secret Avengers stuff - just sucks if you ask me.

That seems to me more a complaint about the writer's style and his use/abuse of writing repeatedly "gimmicky" stories, as opposed to any actual issue taken with the character or substance of the book.
