Just recently in the pages of New Avengers, we discovered the secret history of the Avengers. We discovered that the original Avengers were not Thor, Iron Man, Ant-Man, Wasp and Hulk.

For reasons not fully clear, the government had Nick Fury gather a team of mercenaries and they operated under the name of the Avengers back in 1959. The result of their mission was revealed and had repercussions when Mockingbird's life was on the line.

Spinning out of the pages of New Avengers, this October we will see Avengers 1959, a five issue mini-series. It will deal with this unique group of super-powered individuals in the post-World War II era including Kraven the Hunter, Sabretooth and Namora. They will be back together to fight threats in New York, Madripoor and everywhere in between. Will they be able to operate together without killing each other?

The series will be written and drawn by Howard Chaykin. This is what he said about the project.

I'm grabbing what feels like a brass ring here, with the opportunity to do an untold story of the lost years of the Marvel Universe. In a follow up to the sensational stuff laid out by Brian Bendis in NEW AVENGERS, we'll follow Nick Fury and his Avengers around the world as they track down and take down super powered survivors of the Third Reich--as their ever effort is countermanded by a mysterious agency with a dark agenda of its own.

I have admit, when I first read them together, I thought about how I'd love to see more with these guys. Maybe Marvel heard my wishes. It's on sale in October and will have a $2.99 cover price.
