10-Page Preview: Kevin Keller Gets Married In LIFE WITH ARCHIE #16

Archie Comics addresses both gay marriage and "don't ask don't tell" in their upcoming book.

Archie comics is one of the oldest ongoing comic publications and while the book primarily published stories revolving around Archie and whether he should be dating Betty or Veronica, they have recently begun to address more serious social issues whilst maintaining their very positive attitude that the books are known for.

“Archie Marries Betty” - Kevin's wedding is upon us and you're on the guest list! But how exactly did Kevin meet his significant other? Discover how right in these pages... Meanwhile Archie juggles teaching responsibilities with his marriage to Betty. Don't miss out on the wedding event of the year that everyone's talking about!

In the upcoming issue #16 of LIFE WITH ARCHIE, the book will focus on the marriage of Kevin Keller to Doctor Clay Walker, simultaneously addressing both the "don't ask, don't tell" policy as well as gay marriage. In the upcoming issue, Keller reveals how being a war hero led him to meet and fall in love with his doctor, Clay.

The issue is set to hit comic shops on January 4th and local news stands on January 10th. It's interesting to see Archie Comics integrate social issues that have been a heavy topic of political debates head on. What do you think? This is an Archie comic?! They let the characters evolve, and they feel real. This doesn't seem like an ordinary series anymore, its as if they wrote a drama on television. Something different doesn't hurt, but the plotline may turn many heads around about what makes Archie a comic (or is it something else entirely now?)

Well, that's adorable.

I'm not a fan of Archie, butI like that the characters envolve.

Archie being serious kind of ruins everything I liked about it (not that I liked it that much but still, I could have fun reading it, now I have zero interest).

Bravo.

Although I didn't expect a war scene. That's uh... wow.

HexThison Jan. 3, 2012 at 11:26 a.m.

An observation- Isn't it interesting that more mainstream, heterosexual characters never date outside their race yet they always have interracial gay couples? Northstar and his boyfriend, Michael C Hall's character in Six Feet Under, the gay friend in Easy A, the deaf gay brother in Swiss Family Stone, Carter in Spin City.

It's almost as though they're trying to hit two birds with one stone all the time to make sure all the minority bases are covered. It's hard to take umbrage with interracial dating seeing as how it's perfectly fine but why is it never the main characters that do that?

Interesting to say the least ::shrugs:: Kinda read Archie to smile and laugh, not to address a social issue. But to each their own I suppose.

I think this is awesome. Fantastic in every way.

Yeah, I might just start reading Archie just to see how much they've evolved.

Archie has truly opened up to the world now

Gay Marriages, War, more realistic characters & situation... I guess the sales were slowly going down so someone had the (good) idea to shake things up at Archie :P

PsychoKnightson Jan. 4, 2012 at 1:49 p.m.

Archie target audience is young children. I see no reason to bring sexuality up to kids, and I seriously doubt their will be an equal representation of political views on this issue. With that in mind, I see it as nothing more than progressive brain washing.
