10 Comics to Buy This Week: 2/15/12

Your buyer's guide for this week's comics. Some obvious and not-so-obvious selections for you to check out.

Welcome to a new weekly feature we're going to try out here at ComicVine -- 10 Comics to Buy This Week. There are a metric crap-ton of comic books hitting shelves every single week. And for the common consumer, it's financially impossible to pick up everything. That's where this column steps in like your superhero savior, drawing your attention to 10 books worth your hard-earned dollars during any given week.

Let the great experiment begin!
Let the great experiment begin!

We intend to not only spotlight tights and capes books, but also some indie titles off the beaten path, which, if all goes well, will help broaden your reading horizons in the process.

B.P.R.D.: Hell on Earth Long Death #1

Mike Mignola, with the help of John Arcudi, kicks off a brand new B.P.R.D. series, where a new team of B.P.R.D. agents are sent on a mission to solve a series of disappearances in the deadly woods of New World. Mike Mignola and John Arcudi are joined by artist James Harren for this new series that everyone should check out.

Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi #1

Have you ever wonder what led to the creation of the Jedi Order? Well, this new series from writer John Ostrander plans to delve into the Order's secret history, starting with a group of warrior monks on the planet Thython, who for centuries have been maintaining peace and order by balancing the mysterious power of the Force. But all good things must come to an end, as a stranger takes it upon himself to harness the power of the Force for conquest purposes. Nothing good, this will lead to.

Batman #6

Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo continue their Dark Knight epic, continuing to peel back the layers to Gotham's best kept secret: The Court of Owls. After falling right into the Court's trap, Batman continues to struggle to escape the clutches of his new powerful enemy. Will Batman be able to get out in one piece, or will his mind continue to unravel until he's nothing but a shell dressed in underoos? Find out here.

Wonder Woman #6

Hades and Poseidon have decided to fight over their brother Zeus' kingdom on the mortal plane of earth. Fearing for the safety of mankind, Wonder Woman enlists the help of the mysterious figure Lennox to help put a stop to this pissing match between brothers. We're expecting a lot of collateral damage and more intriguing world building from Brian Azzarello and artist Tony Akins.

Peter Panzerfaust #1

Looking for a new take on the Peter Pan story? Well, you've come to the right place. Writer Kurtis J. Wiebe and artist Tyler Jenkins kick off a new series exploring the Peter Pan mythology against the backdrop of World War II. That's right, Peter Pan meets Nazis. That's all the hyping you should need. But if you do need that extra push, Wiebe has on occasion compared the tone of Peter Panzerfaust to Red Dawn and Indiana Jones. Sold.

Amazing Spider-Man #679.1

Writer Dan Slott and artist Humberto Ramos have pumped out a new Point One issue of Amazing Spider-Man focusing on the return of Morbius the Living Vampire. As all Point Ones issues intend to be, Amazing Spider-Man #679.1 acts as the perfect jumping-on point for new readers that haven't bought into Spidey's latest adventures, which, in all honesty, have been a fun ride. Don't miss this perfect opportunity to jump aboard.

Daredevil #9

Woo! Mark Waid and Paolo Rivera's incredible Daredevil series continues, coming out of the recent two-part Daredevil/Spider-Man crossover. Kicking off a new storyline, the Mole Men have returned and it's up to ol' Hornhead to keep them at bay. If you aren't buying this series already, correct that horrible mistake immediately.

Venom #13.2

I'll be honest, I was not expecting much from this mini Venom-starring event, "Circle of Four." But I'm happily eating crow now, since writers Rick Remender, Rob Williams and Jeff Parker have been killing it. Venom #13.2 sees Rob Williams once again on writing duties, as Venom, X-23, Red Hulk and Ghost Rider attempt to overcome their antitheses.

Winter Soldier #2

Bucky Barnes and Black Widow continue to hunt down Russian sleeper cells. Meanwhile, a hit has been placed on Doctor Doom's head, as an usurper wants control of Latveria. Even with only an issue under their belt, Ed Brubaker and artist Butch Guice's new espionage-thriller series is a must buy and a pleasant return to form for Bucky Barnes.

Avengers Omnibus Vol. 1 HC

For the comic buyers with deep pockets, Marvel releases the first omnibus collection of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby's seminal Avengers work this week. The massive tome collects Avengers #1-30, featuring Earth's Mightiest Heroes coming together to stop Thor's brother, Loki. In addition, this book also features the first appearance by Kang the Conqueror. At $100, this omnibus is a lot to ask for. However, diehard Avengers fans should have no problem forking over the money to have a well made hardcover collection honoring the legacy of their favorite super team.

Can't wait for Peter Panzerfaust.

Ign stops their written comics to watch list and you guys start one. I ain't mad. I'm happy to have one. I hope this keeps going.
nahadefon Feb. 14, 2012 at 5:16 a.m.

The Avengers Omnibus is tempting. I've never read any early Avengers issues except the first two. I had trouble enjoying them as a teen, since they were so different from contemporary comics, but as an adult, they are a pretty fun read.

Pbotton Feb. 14, 2012 at 5:31 a.m.

I love batman and wonder woman, however im looking forward to B.P.R.D the most, its the best book being put out now. Also any starwars book with Ostranders name on it im buying

Cafeterialocaon Feb. 14, 2012 at 5:44 a.m.

Sorry, hands are full with Generation Hope, Thunderbolts, Birds of Prey, Journey into Mystery, Batwoman, and X-Factor, but I will be getting Daredevil.

Deranged Midgeton Feb. 14, 2012 at 5:52 a.m.

I am INCREDIBLY pumped for Dawn of the Jedi. Batman is a pickup, as is Winter Soldier.

TurianAgenton Feb. 14, 2012 at 6:13 a.m.

Can`t wait for Batman, its going to be amazing, as always. Also picking up Amazing Spider-Man, Winter Soldier and Daredevil.

CrimsonTempeston Feb. 14, 2012 at 6:20 a.m.
Copping Batman and Winter Soldier, without question.
Owieon Feb. 14, 2012 at 6:26 a.m.

This is a good idea. You can never get too many opinions on new or unusual stuff that you might not have noticed otherwise.

DDangelicoon Feb. 14, 2012 at 6:31 a.m.
Glad to see the new Spider-Man is on here. I was waiting for a good point to start reading that again. Pretty excited about it actually. Also, Batman and Winter Soldier; this will be a fun week indeed!
NXHon Feb. 14, 2012 at 6:39 a.m.

Shit! Didn't realize Batman is out this week. It's the only single issue comic I buy nowadays.

aztek_the_lost moderator on Feb. 14, 2012 at 6:39 a.m.

HA, the massive tomb?

tome, perhaps?

Also, I think this feature is a cool idea, although I'm not sure how much of an impact it will have, I mean I'd like to think most people know these books exist, they just choose not to read them and without actual reviews, this is essentially the same as taking ten solicits and saying these look like the best comics coming out this week.

spiderbat87on Feb. 14, 2012 at 6:46 a.m.
Pete Panserfaust sounds amazing. Tinkerbell with a Thompson machine-gun please
Jorgevyon Feb. 14, 2012 at 6:53 a.m.

Im only interested in New 52 right now. I might get back on Marvel for either a reboot like DC or for the Avengers vs X-men thing

WWAJfanon Feb. 14, 2012 at 7:08 a.m.
Venom 13.2 anyone, i know im pump for it
