Overview

Seeking only to help the helpless, the Silver Surfer rids an alien city of a demonic threat and is declared a Savior by its beleaguered inhabitants. As assassinations, political maneuverings and simmering tensions fester in the shadows, the Surfer must question whether a figurehead – even a reluctant one – is responsible for the actions of his disciples…

Brewing conflict leaps from the page, as artist Tan Eng Huat (Doom Patrol, Batman) and writer Simon Spurrier (2000AD, Gutsville) step-up a gear in the Surfer’s most explosive adventure yet.

Summary
The Silver Surfer continues his battle on Brekknis with the strange creature that is attacking the populous. He fights the creature on the astral plane and is able to subdue it. To thank the Surfer for his help, the Empress arrives. But she insults the Surfer instead, making the Brekk angry with her comments about their savior.

The Surfer is then met by the leader of the Brekk, Tol-Wes. He tells the Surfer the history of their planet and that they do not wish to be a part of the Ama Collective. He wishes to start a war with the Ama and tells the Surfer that he is their savior. The Surfer refuses this position and leaves the planet.

In space he is attacked by the Organpirates and captures. Somehow, the being he fought on the planet is also aboard the pirates ship and it siphons his energy. The pirates have been commanded by Ruqtar Koil of the Ama Collective, and his orders are to crucify the Surfer.

Christian/Islamic conflict. Technological revolution. Fear of the end of the world. Sound familiar? It should. But it's not the world of 2007…it's the world of Europe, circa 1000 AD. The world of Brian Wood's brand-new monthly series, NORTHLANDERS. Following the red-hot success of one of last year's most critically-acclaimed books, DMZ, NORTHLANDERS is a fresh take on Vikings.

NORTHLANDERS tells the epic tale of Sven, an exiled Viking prince who's been living the decadent, high life in Constantinople - the 11th century's answer to Las Vegas - but now must return to the desolate lands of his birth in the frigid islands of the North Sea to reclaim his vast inheritance. Intending only to take his money and run, he finds more than he bargained for as his former family and friends are enslaved at the hands of Gorm, his ruthless uncle. What follows isnot only a bloody quest to free his people, but also a young man's struggle to discover where he belongs in a rapidly changing world…and what awful sacrifices it will take to make a Prince into a King.

NORTHLANDERS has all the cool, modern sensibilities audiences have come to expect from Wood (DMZ, Demo, Supermarket) mixed with the bloody action of 300 and Gladiator. Joining Wood on this epic journey is outstanding newcomer artist Davide Gianfelice and acclaimed cover artist Massimo Carnevale (Y: THE LAST MAN).

Characters: Enna, Gorm, Hakkar, Sven of Orkney, Thora

Creators: Adam Kubert, Brian Wood, Casey Seijas, Dave McCaig, Davide Gianfelice, Massimo Carnevale, Travis Lanham, Will Dennis

Karate Kid meets an all-new/old OMAC at the Command D bunker! Jimmy Olsen crosses paths with Mister Miracle! Mary Marvel is taken to Paradise Island! One of the Rogues becomes a real drag! Things are changing for the Monitors! And…at long last…Ray Palmer!

Plus, more DC villains origin backup stories, including The Origin of Granny Goodness by Scott Beatty and Jon Bogdanove!

The COUNTDOWN TO FINAL CRISIS continues!

Spoilers

Last issue Trickster and Piper were being chased by Deadshot while riding a freight train. As they managed to throw him off, he fired upon one of them and apparently killing him. The other tried reviving him by using the "zap-cuff." As he keeps pulling and pulling, finally there is a beep. He hears an electronic voice state that "Subject B has been terminated." A fail safe has been activated and the cuffs are set to detonate in 24 hours. As he thinks about this, Desaad removes a piece from Darkseid playing board. As Desaad brags to Granny Goodness about his new level of authority given by Darkseid, she transforms and heads to Earth to mold her new Female Furies...

Meanwhile on Paradise Island, the new recruits are continuing their training. They are being put through an extremely rigorous and potentially deadly obstacle course. As they run the course, Harley persuades Holly to take a little leave and explore a nearby cave. Unfortunately it is not unoccupied.

On Earth-12, the "Challengers" still in search of Ray Palmer watch a futuristic sci-fi version of Batman fighting some street thugs. "Bob" feels that they are close to ending their search. They are then found by another Monitor. He tells "Bob" that the newly named Monitor of Earth-8, Solomon, has united them in saving the integrity of the multiverse. He says that Palmer is insignificant. Jason speaks up to him about how they are the ones trying to save the mulitverse only to be knocked out. He orders "Bob" to surrender and stand trial for Crimes against the Multiverse. They are at a standoff as the two Monitors begin fighting each other. Kyle and Donna try to help "Bob" even though he says it is not their fight. The other Monitor easily zaps Kyle through his power construct. "Bob" uses this distraction to take out the other Monitor. They make their escape as "Nix Uotan" vows that they will be found and stopped. They have escaped to The Bleed. "Bob" says he now knows where Ray Palmer is after hearing Nix Uotan's words.

In Bludhaven, Firestorm takes care of the Atomic Knights giving Karate Kid and company a chance to escape into the bunker. They find a locked hatch. Karate Kid sets to open the lock as OMAC detects he is "in place" and activates the protocol trigger. Some soldiers report that there is a massive power surge in the storage hangar that houses OMAC. The general is going to order a red alert and picks up the phone. He is then transformed into an OMAC, along with many others. It is said that the "Morticoccus host is in final gestation" and viral release is about to happen. An army of OMACs set out for Bludhaven.

Messiah CompleX Chapter Six

4.4 avg of 18 votes

Battered by Sinister, the X-Men retreat to the mansion to lick their wounds. But in the war for the future of mutantkind, the battle never ends. The school is overrun by a mysterious new player who enlists one of the X-Men’s oldest foes. And when Cyclops learns who has the baby, he’s forced to make a tough decision.

Wolverine tries flying his battered teammates back to the mansion after "getting their butts" handed to them by the Marauders. His healing factor is starting to kick back in but he is still in pain as he tries piloting the Blackbird. Nightcrawler is alive but unconscious. They wonder why Emma was cut off from them. Storm wonders if it's Cable's doings that they cannot contact anyone at the mansion.

Back at the Xavier Institute, Emma is down. Cyclops tells Beast to take her to away as he and Bishop fight off the Sentinel that is attacking the mansion. The Sentinel is joined by a second, both with new programming recently installed: "Destroy all mutants."

Warpath crashes out his bedroom window, blades in hand. He always figured it'd be a matter of time until they turned on them. Hepzibah isn't too happy to lose her bedmate. Cyclops asks Bishop if there's a way to shut down the Sentinels but he can't get a signal to them. As they try to coordinate their next move, Nezhno, all powered up, begins to attack the Sentinels. Cyclops tries ordering the "stupid kid" back but Bishop comments on the fact that Nezhno was able to knock it back a bit. Cyclops says if he continues at his enhanced size, he's bound to kill himself. Beast carries Emma down to his lab. On the way, he finds the Stepford Cuckoos unconscious in the hallway. He figures if they and Emma are down, it can't be a coincidence. Cyclops tries protecting Nezhno as Warpath and Hepzibah manage to finish off one Sentinel.

In Antarctica, Mr. Sinister and Mystique make their final checks so that they can abandon this base. Sinister states that all the data he has was automatically transferred as soon as they were attacked. Mystique wonders why he isn't bothered about the attack. Sinister says that the X-Men were there because they believed that he was in possession of the baby. This means that the baby must be unprotected. The baby is, in fact, on the run with Cable. Cable is running somewhere as the baby simply cries continuously. He tells the kid that the crying continues, they're bound to attract predators...

The fight continues at the mansion. More Sentinels are on the scene. Cyclops checks with Dust to see if she is up to entering a Sentinel to see what is going on inside. Another Sentinel is taken out as the Blackbird piloted by Iceman bringing back the "new" X-Men from D.C. flies through its head. X-23 tells Mercury to make sure Hellion gets taken to the medical bay (if it's still intact) as she jumps out of the plane. She lands on a Sentinel and begins slashing and hacking away at it.

Down in the lab, Beast sees Cannonball, who is still recovering, moving the Professor. He tells Hank that the Professor grabbed his head and screamed before passing out. Beast now knows that all their telepaths are being taken out. He just doesn't know why or by who.

Outside, Nezhno is hit by a Sentinel blast as it says, "Mutant neutralized." Bishop comes up to him and curses. Iceman freezes the head of one as Cyclops blasts and cuts it down. Dust has managed to enter one. She sees a robotic entity inside and asks what it is. The creature responds that it must terminate all mutants. Lifting its hand, it fires a blast at Dust that sends her sand form shooting out of the Sentinel. She screams out to Cyclops and tells him that they are not being piloted by humans. As she tries to explain further, it comes out and announces that their mission is a failure and initiates an escape sequence to the others. X-23 is near one as it sets to leave. She jumps on it and stabs it with her claws. There is a blast of feedback and they are both down. The remaining one looks down at the X-Men and tells them they will be terminated "in due time."

As they try to tend to the injured, the other X-Men arrive. Wolverine meets with Cyclops noticing that they too got their butts handed to them. Cyclops informs him that the O.N.E. pilots were infected somehow by the Nano-Sentinels that Cassandra Nova created. He says that everything has been destroyed. Wolverine says that not everything has been. Cyclops says that they have a bunch of injured, the telepaths have been taken out, and their only healer, Elixir, was injured by a falling wall. Wolverine wonders if Cable could have unleashed the Nano-Sentinels like a virus. Cyclops says that it is possible and he had access to samples. He has no idea what Cable is up to and has to assume the worst. He tells him that Bishop is meeting at O.N.E. headquarters to inform them what happened. No matter what they decide, Cyclops feels it is time to up the ante. He tells Wolverine that they have their backs up against the wall and need to take a more offensive position. Their entire race is threatened as their only hope, the baby, is in danger. He has decided that they need a team that will handle the dirty jobs that need to be done. These are desperate times and Wolverine is the one to handle the mission of finding Cable and taking the baby away from him, doing whatever it takes.

Wolverine assembles a new X-Force. The roster he chooses includes Warpath, Hepzibah, X-23, Wolfsbane, and Caliban.

The Resurrection of Ra's al Ghul, Part 5

2.5 avg of 9 votes

Overview

Written by Peter Milligan; Art by Freddie Williams II; Cover by Andy Kubert

Part 5 of the 7-part "Resurrection of Ra's al Ghul!" Robin goes off the deep end as the temptations of Ra's al Ghul prove too strong to resist! Will Nightwing take his big brother role to heart and try to drag Tim off the ledge? Guest-starring Batman, Damian and Talia al Ghul.

Spoilers

Despite Ra's al Ghul recent offer to Robin to join him and he'd bring his parents back from the dead, White Ghost doesn't care if the Assassins kill him. He orders the men to take care not to injure Damian. When Robin makes his move to break free, Talia and Damian follow his actions. Tim knows it's crazy to think about, but he cannot get the idea of bringing back his mom and dad out of his head. As they fight, Damian escapes, only caring to find his father. He sets off to follow White Ghost.

When Talia is able to break free, she tries to find Damian only to see Robin and I-Ching fighting the League. Robin tells her if she'll talk to him, he'll help her find Damian. She tries acting like she's not concerned about Damian. Robin says that his mom used to look at him with the same look of concern she has. He asks about Ra's. He knows he was dead since Batman saw him die. Talis says she did too. Robin wants to know if he really can bring the dead back to life. He wants to know if Ra's would really do it for him. Talia warns him to be careful. Ra's likes to collect and use people. He says he doesn't care what would happen to him. He just wants his loved ones back. He takes off despite telling Talia he'd help her.

In Nanda Parbat, Ra's, in a newly possessed body, tells Sensei's "Men of Death" that they are no longer in service to Sensei. Merlyn questions why they should now work for him. He's also concerned that when Ra's current body burns out, he might try to just take one of theirs. Ra's tells him that he'll have a suitable, permanent body soon. He also says that others will also be joining his side. He still thinks that Batman will be one of them as he crawls out of the pool.

Merlyn believes this is his chance to take down Batman and "go down in history." He shoots an arrow which Batman easily dodges. Batman takes him out with one punch. Ra's quickly steps in front of Batman. He tells the others that if they want to try to take out Batman, they'll have to take him out first. Ra's tells Batman that he knows how he feels after the rebirth. Batman tells him he has no idea how he feels. Ra's extends his hand. He says he offered Robin the chance to join him and he refused. This will be the last time he offers his friendship.

Meanwhile, Robin has found White Ghost. He says that Ra's made him an offer and he wants to reconsider. White Ghost simply says he turned it down and that's it. They begin fighting. Robin puts some doubt into White Ghost's mind by saying that perhaps there's a reason Ra's made the offer to him. A reason that he just doesn't know about. White Ghost asks if he is completely ready to join them. Robin takes his hand.

At the same time, Batman has taken Ra's extended hand. Ra's al Ghul is happy that Batman has finally come to his senses. He comments that Batman's grip is pretty strong. Batman keeps squeezing until he crushes his already decaying hand. Ra's gets that this is Batman's way of saying no to his offer.

Robin and White Ghost stand over the Lazarus Pit. He tells Robin that he has to be "baptized" in the pit before he joins. There's the chance he'll lose his mind. He has to decide if he wants to take that risk and leaves him to ponder the decision. As Robin steps forward, I-Ching reveals himself. Robin tells him not to try to stop him but I-Ching says he's old enough to make his own decision. He says some more words of wisdom but leaves him to decide on his own.

Then a voice announces that perhaps I-Ching won't try to stop him, but he will. Nightwing stands over ready to do whatever it takes to stop him.
