I don't understand the growth thing with Janet & Pym because as I recalled she could already grow.Why would he give her the growth serum to use if she could already do it?

As i recall it she couldn't grow at all, then when Chuck Austen wrote Avengers she suddenly could without explanation, so i guess the growth serum was supposed to be some sort of explanation of that."
