The Hunt For Baby Cage
In the aftermath of the Secret Invasion, the New Avengers meet up at Captain America's apartment in the Bronx. Luke Cage and Jessica Jones show up and tell everyone that the skull Jarvis took their baby. The New Avengers go to the Baxter Building to get help from the Fantastic Four. They look everywhere for the child but hit a dead end every corner they take. Frustrated, Luke Cage goes to Norman Osborn for help. A skull prisoner is interrogated for information. Luke Cage finds Jarvis and gets his baby back. The New Avengers see Norman Osborn on TV showing off his "Avengers" which frustrates the real Avengers especially Ronin. They formulate a plan to trap Osborn and his team which didn't go as planned. Ronin goes on TV to tell everyone about Osborn and what he's doing.
My Thoughts:
I really enjoyed the events that took place in this volume. It picks up immediately after the invasion and expands on issues that happened during it. I like how they met at Steve Rodgers apartment. I find that a very fitting place for their base of operations. Now that Tony Stark has been replaced as director, Ms Marvel joins this team of Avengers and so does the newly returned Mockingbird. Both are excellent additions however, I was disappointed that Bendis wrote off Iron Fist from the team. He says he needs to focus on his personal life. But at least he was in this volume all the way until the end. Hopefully he'll be back soon. Maybe Bendis felt the team was getting to cluttered and wanted to cut down on the members, I don't know.
The hunt for Luke & Jessica's baby resulted in Luke having to go to Norman. That was very unexpected and made for a good read. I'm glad it played out the way it did and Luke Cage isn't going to be working for Osborn anytime soon. The reactions of the New Avengers towards Osborns unveiling of his "Avengers" felt very appropriate. It only makes sense they take a stand and do something about it.
The art was incredibly beautiful. Hats off to Billy Tan's pencils and the colors of Justin Ponsor & Paul Mounts.
Only three issues in this volume but they were highly enjoyable. It's going to be very interesting to see what happens next between these two teams of Avengers.
