''I am the Black Panther. King of the dead. And soon to be your new lord''.
The good:
One hell of an issue! Hickman continues his amazing fleshed out sci-fi story in the pages of New Avengers. In this particular title, we get to see the Illuminati fight as the last line of defense against Thanos' desire to invade earth while its defenses are weakened. The high point of not only this title, but the complete Infinity storyline, is how well organized it is. Every book, from the Infinity core book, to the Avengers main title, to this title, serves a purpose in the story. We that being said, I'd highly recommend to read this title for two reasons: 1. it's an integral part of the story and 2. it's an amazing title.
Now to get to this book, what is amazing is seeing every member of the Illuminati reacting to the invasion. From Black Panther's crazy baddass confrontation, to Namor's selfish actions, to the X-men trying to defend their home and so on, Hickman delivers incredibly well done scenes of Thanos' invasion. Speaking of Namor, the high point of this issue comes from his reaction to the invasion, but I'll let the reader experience that without spoiling anything. His actions will have repercussions in the story that can only keep it even more exciting.
As for the art, Mike deodato has always been good, but in this issue he knocked it out the park. His drawings of ''grandeur'' are well exploiting in the issue showing the importance of this alien invasion. Each character is drawn with detail and, from a fanboy point of view, are drawn as nothing else but ''cool''. From the villains (who are totally imaginative in my opinion) to characters such as Black Bolt and T'Challa, Deodato doesn't miss to deliver.
The bad:
It's rare for me to not find anything bad about an issue, but in this case I don't have anything to say.
So what's up with this book?
3 out of 3. That's the right statistic for the Infinity storyline, because all three main books are amazing. This is not just a tie-in title, this is actually part of the Infinity title! If you want to fully experience this (hopefully) future classic storyline, then I suggest you buy this book along with the two others. Hickman and Deodato deliver a great issue focusing on not only the Illuminati defending earth against the space pirate named Thanos, but a bit of the whole team drama that has past in the last issues along with its consequences. This team is fragile, there is a lot of tension, which can only mean the fight to push back the invasion will only get more interesting.
