    1959 - Not a great year 0

Bendis is many, many things. He is an excellent and amazingly prolific writer. You can't fault him, he never misses deadlines, and when he writes well, he writes REALLY, REALLY well. Spider-Woman, Powers, Ultimate Spider-Man, hell, Secret War is great as well. However, like with most things, there are only two levels. Amazingly good, and...desperately poor.  This Avengers title, despite having the saving grace of having Bloodstone appear, Namora, Sabretooth and Kraven all appear as the 1959 Aven...

Hmm... where is this going? 0

Well, I liked this a little more than BKole evidently did, but this certainly has a very strange feel to it, partly because of the art. Howard Chaykin's unique style just does not fit the retro 50's storyline that Bendis has going on here. The stories so far (both of them) are also kind of odd. I hope they connect up in some way, because right now combating Superia and some HAMMER forces in the present and Nick Fury gathering a proto-Avengers team in the 50's have no connection at all!! To be ho...

    Two Stories in One 3

The two stories from last issue continue as we see the formation of the Avengers in 1959 along with the current battle of the New Avengers (plus, what will be the fate of the wounded member?).  The Good I was against the idea that the Avengers actually first formed in 1959 rather than in Avengers #1. I have to admit that this group gathered has promise and (depending on if they can complete their mission) deserve their own mini series. The fact that most of them don't get along and are all deadl...

Still Not Interested In The '59 Avengers 0

New Avengers continues with its awkward story split between the New Avengers in the present day and Nick Fury back in the late fifties. It is no worse than last issue, but it is not much improved either.  In the present day, the New Avengers continue their raid on Superia's new operation, but now the action focuses on the the gunshot injury Mockingbird suffered in the previous issue. It makes for an exciting sequence, because you do not get to see team members getting hurt treated in such a real...

Your right Dominic, it is really disappointing. 0

Within this issue we see Deodato's badass dynamic artwork.   Then were taken to Chayken's colorful artwork thats completely the opposite of being dynamic. I have never thought that I would see something that’s just as tasteless, uncreative, and absolutely degrading as the Siege storyline, until I decided to give this issue try. The New Avengers #10 takes you to two different stories and two different timelines that failed to give any connection towards each other. From beginning to end you’r...

    Not Connecting Yet 3

Bendis' story about the current New Avengers and the '59 Avengers is still not connecting. But is this better than the last issue? The GoodBendis' writing is definitely at it's best here. His dialogue for the New and '59 Avengers just seems so real, it's as if he's met these characters before.Probably the best thing about this comic is that it's so much more interesting than the last. Last issue, there were tons of things missing and it was hard to follow. But here, the writing gets you really i...

Hello, I’m an Avengers comic and I seem to have lost my plot. 0

Story Something is missing from this story. At first I thought I was the only one, but after reading other reactions online I felt better. The two stories are not very connected. At least, at this stage its not connected. Bendis has shown that he can do big things, epic stories that span years. However, I can’t see the lines that go from point A to point B here. Retcons are commonplace in the comic book world. Re-writing the Avengers history though, feels wrong. So the President had a program...

    Meet the Avengers!!! 0

Nick Fury is searching for the 1959 Avengers. While the New Avengers battle and Mockingbird suffers from her fatal wound. The Cover This cover is very impressive, one of my favourite cover's in a while. The Good Bendis' writing here is very good, this is one of the best issue's in this series. Mike Deodato's art here is brilliant, it is very nice the way he lays the pages out and the dynamic of the shadows is so impressive. He really is one of Marvel's top artists. This issue is better than the ...

    Recruiting and Suckerpunching 0

I don´t care much about Chaykin´s Avengers story of the 50s, despite it´s a little interesting, especially how Bendis decided to show the introduction and recruiting of every character and the diversity of them (come on, putting together Victor Creed, Namora, Dominic Fortune, Kraven and Bloodstone together as team mates? This is pure insanity and I liked it), but the art isn´t the best feat in this story from the past, neither is the fact that I yet don´t see anything that connects that story wi...
