Larry Trainor flew an experimental airplane when it crashed. He soon discovered that he could project a radioactive being. He would rename himself the Negative Man and joined the Doom Patrol. Edit
Origin
Overexposure to stratospheric radiation left rocket-plane test pilot Larry Trainor swaddled in specially-treated bandages. But the same mishap that kept his face forever hidden from the world also allowed him to briefly release from within him a strange, powerful "negative energy" being that would do his bidding. In some ways the most powerful member of the Doom Patrol, Negative Man could only exercize his power for no more than sixty seconds at a time.
Negative Man's energy form survived certain death when the entire Doom Patrol was seemingly killed in an explosion while saving a small fishing village. Although sometimes as negative as his namesake, Negative Man's ultimate heroism outshines his dire outlook on life.
