Hell Never Looked So Good
Meet Nancy - whisky drinking, chain-smoking, clad in combat boots, skimpy t-shirt, a tiny pair of denim cutoffs and swinging a chainsaw. She`s dead and gone to Hell. She doesn`t like it, and wants out.
And there you have the plot of Image`s new series, `Nancy In Hell`.
It`s not much of a story, but then who cares. For me, this comic is about the art - it`s excellent. Juan Jose Ryp has worked on a few Avatar Press publications, and this series is in that typically Bad Girl Art style that Avatar is well known for. I guess Nancy is in that same vein as some of their better known sexy demon-bashing heroines. She pouts and poses throughout, legs akimbo and cleavage bulging...
Nancy arrives in Hell, after being murdered (she says) and soon meets her first demons - voluptuous leather bikini-clad sirens with flickering forked tongues. Saved from being groped and licked to death, by a group of renegades who take her to their bar - remember The Titty Twister in From Dusk `Til Dawn? - it`s like that. Yep, booze, table dancing gals and rock music...
Hell, muses Nancy, is like `...eternity in a Heavy Metal video`...
Yay!! I`m in!
....alas, this doesn`t last. Slobbering hell-hounds arrive to cause bloody havoc, and tearing free, Nancy rushes headlong into the Braindead - the zombie-like long term residence of Hell. To be rescued again! This time by the most glamorous fallen angel of them all...Lucifer. He then tells Nancy (how the hell she`s managed to stay in those rags by this point, I don`t know) that, he too wishes to get out of Hell...
Lucifer? Helping you to get out of Hell? Well, all will be revealed (??) next issue, no doubt...
`Nancy In Hell`? It`s a fast paced and sexy actioner. Take it or leave it. The extra half-star is for Jose Ryp`s superb artwork...
