@lone_wolf_and_cub: Actually, aquaman was ALWAYS cool. people just never actually read his comics.
Namor
Character » Namor appears in 4967 issues.
Namor the Sub-Mariner is the ruler of undersea Atlantis. The offspring of a sea captain and an Atlantean princess, he has been both a hero and a villain to the surface world. Namor is one of Marvel's oldest published characters with his origins in the Golden Age of comics.
Why is Aquaman more popular?
Namor is a douchebag. Despite his supposed "superiority", he constantly fails at being able to decide his allegiance, run his kingdom, protect his kingdom, and at life in general. He constantly hits on married women, and then promptly gets rejected, whereas Aquaman goes home to a smoking hot redhead every night. People give Aquaman crap about his look, and yet Namor wears either a speedo, or an Elvis jacket. Do I even need to continue?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!!!!
Bingo! Plus namor has a personality that would alienate roaches
@dayvid3: Namor wud scare the stink out of crap
wow i have never seen so many aquaman ass kissers in my life and so much disrespectful against namor in his own forum lol first off he not awful and yes aquaman maybe more popular however it don't change the fact that he was a very lame character back then plus being a knockoff that out shine the original until they finally made him interesting in new 52 universe all depends how long they will keep him interesting that way? he starts to grow on me but i still thank namor was better than aquaman, i know im going to get attack by aquaman fanboys im not trying to start a fight or anything nope just being honest here in my opinion im out bye.
Because Aquaman isn't a D-bag
this,
also I'll just leave this here.
@drdoomsday390: oh. Oh oh it seems we got a namor ass kisser right here
@drdoomsday390: new 52 wasn't the first time he was a badass in fact way back 1994 to 2001 he freaking badass who knows why it ended but hes a badass and if anything you could say he a thor rip off

The irony in this post is astonishing. You're angry at "Aquaman ass kissers" but act like a huge Namor fanboy
More mainstream exposure. The 70s featured him regularly on the Super Friends(meaning multiple age groups recognize him), and pop culture refers to him for the butt of jokes. Namor and Aquaman were first published, what, a few months apart? Yet Aquaman is much more iconic. Although the general perception of "the useless hero who talks to fish" may be totally wrong, someone who has never read a comic in their life will lean toward Aquaman before Spock in a scaly-speedo. Translate that to actual comic fans: I think people respond the same way due to more prior experience.
Plus, Namor is kind of a d*ck.
Z I J U U N
@zijuun: heh
Because of the Super Friends cartoon from the 70's though most people who know him from that think he's a joke.
@raw_material: after reading that...I prefer Namor. IMHO I find noble characters like Aquaman and Superman very boring. I don't need a character as a moral compass or source of aspiration, one might as well pick up a religious text. Again here is a character bound by personality with limitations. For me, and it is my personal opinion...that is boring and one dimensional. Namor can play both sides, he can have a bad day, choose good or evil. That is greater character depth, more relatable in some respects, dare I say more realistic.
Completely agree with whoever said Namor has a god-awful design. He's the king of Atlantis, what the hell is he wearing? Just doesn't scream "Undersea Ruler" to me. Also, stupid pointy ears and goofy ass wings...on his ankles? Wtf? Fins or something would look better, and would make more sense, imo. Admittedly I don't know much about Namor, just that he looks goofy/stupid as hell to me.
Because aquaman sucks. No really, that's the reason. Aquaman is famous for being a crappy hero in pop culture and his JL appearances
@lone_wolf_and_cub: actually he said in an interview that he was going to do what he did green lantern 7 years and all
It's funny because Geoff isn't writing Aquaman anymore.
As for the question because Aquaman isn't a giant douche bag.
@maccyd: what about the Savage Sub-Mariner from the 90's?

Also, a lot of the people that actually know Namor (comic readers) despise him.
Yeah this. I think he's a major egotistical, arrogant, narcissistic d-bag (who destroyed a whole country.)
Also, his catchphrase annoys the hell out of me. "IMPERIUS REX!" It's like, just shut up please.
Lookey here. An opinion I held a year and a half ago that hasn't changed a single bit.
Namor has better powers and can look pretty fresh at times but he's so has the tendency to act like a complete a-hole. Aquaman is a pretty nice guy most of the time. They're both cool in their own way but Aquaman is definitely more likable to me

@dagmar_merrill: Wait, seriously? There isn't an explanation given as to why he says that? I thought I just didn't care enough to be knowledgeable in that regard.
@jaken7: I have no damn clue what it means. It has to mean something but I don't feel like doing anything but a quick Google search which brought up people asking what it meant and everyone saying "I dunno"
So I mean.. whatever.
@dagmar_merrill: Yeah, and this thread basically let us all know that it's just dumb and made up.

I have even less respect for Namor than I did a year and a half ago. :3
@jaken7: It also says it could mean "Commanding King!" which is a really dumb thing for the king to shout every time he does anything.
@dagmar_merrill: Rather redundant, ain't it?
It's like a policeman arresting someone and yelling "Law Enforcing Policeman!"

lol Yeah Namor is just not a character that appeals to me in anyway.
Namor's solo series haven't been successful since the 90's. Even a mediocre Aquaman series in the 2000's lasted 4x as long as Namors. And Aquaman's current solo series is still one of the best comics out there compared to Namor - who doesn't have one and (at least as far as the vine community goes) no one wants one either.
He's also not a constant main stay (let alone founder) of Marvel's main Superhero team like Aquaman is. Hell, Aquaman even led the Justice League for quite some time in the 80's.

This reminds of a bit of the new avengers cartoon
Thor is in another reality, run by Doctor Doom and there is no more heroes outside some street levelers who are now freedom fighters. Punisher leaps into a group of guards yelling "Punishment served !"
Which was one of the funnest thing I saw at the time hehe
Back to topic
DC has been trying to shake the Aquaman Sucks stigma for quite some time. He had a real cool series in 03. Geoff Johns is writing him now, like him or not, the guy did put Green Lantern on the map for the modern era. And having an awesome look and finisher in Injustice doesn't hurt either
While I don't dislike Namor. I got to dislike Marvel letting one of their premier characters of the golden age degrade to "That fish guy that got it on with Sue Storm" (and they let Sue storm becomes comics resident milf)
Up until the MCU launched, DC heroes were more popular than Marvel heroes with the exception of Spider-Man, Hulk and X-Men.
