Could A Namor Movie Be Coming Soon?

Here's another bit of "news" that came our way. According to CBM, a Facebook page popped up up for "NamorMovie" and had the following logo. The problem is, the Facebook page is now nowhere to be found.

We've all seen plenty of fan made posters and trailers. It would be a piece of cake to slap something like this together. The writer over at CBM isn't one to make up "news" for the sake of gaining attention. I do believe that he did come across this but now it's gone. Either it was removed because Marvel wasn't ready to "announce" it or it was removed because it was fake and perhaps they were "asked" to do so.

The last word of a Namor movie (just over a year ago) had the rights owned by Universal. David Boreanaz was even loosely attached at one point. I don't know the full details of Universal's deal but since they haven't made further plans on it either their hold on the rights lapsed or they made a deal with Marvel as they did with Hulk being able to be in the Avengers movie.

Obviously it would make complete sense to have Namor appear in the Captain America movie with the Invaders. That would easily open the door to a spin-off movie just as we may see a Black Widow movie after the Avengers.

What are your thoughts? Do you think a Namor movie would ever float or is this just the wishful thinking of a big Sub-Mariner fan?

But htis makes me think......How come the Aquaman movie hasn't gone this far with its own page.

No word of him as an Invader in the Captain America film, so I guess a solo flick is possible.
Instead of him having bird-wings on his feet, they could be golden sandals that grant him flight.

They have been trying to do this movie forever and I think it comes down to the budget being extremely high to bring this underwater world to life. I think at one point the idea was to make the entire movie look and feel like it was underwater and showing how Namor entered the surface world and helped in WWII. It is a possibility that Universal doesn't want to front the bill and Disney may have got the license back. Disney has the ability to do a picture like this especially with their own effects and etc.

Like Pamela Anderson's "girls" I would wager it was fake.

I do agree, G-Man, including Namor anywhere, especially with The Invaders as he should be, would be great.

I have NO doubts that it's real. I'm not a fan of Namor. But this would DEFFINATELY be kewls. :P

Out of all the odd characters people are deciding to do movies based off of, THIS one i wouldnt mind. The origin is great, the scenery would be great..mayb a little challenging, and the action I KNOW would be great. But im trying to think of an actor that could play his asian/russian look...any idea's?

I don't know about him having his own movie but it would be a great idea for him to have an appearance in either CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER or FANTASTIC FOUR 3.

Josan Behr would be perfect for Namor. I think he should at least make a cameo in Captain America, it would be so easy for them to do so. but who knows maybe he will have a spot in Avengers as a cameo?

Shenanigans! Simply because there is one dead giveaway...The little Paramount logo in the corner. I'm pretty sure the new owners over at Disney would have a BIG problem with another studio making and distributing a movie that they own the characters to. Athough in this case it MAY be FOX that actually owns the character due to his history with the FF (think they picked up the rights when they got the FF franchise). Either way, I'm pretty sure while this is a good logo and a interesting idea, that its a fan piece. Plus...Facebook? Is that really a reliable place for a news item potential this big?

XD babs is probally thrilled about this... Have you told her yet G-man? XD. I wouldn't mind seeing this even though i'm not a huge fan.

I would also love to see Jason Behr have the role for Namor. That would be perfect.

I too would also rather see an Aquaman movie..... and it is okay if Babs hunts me down ;).

Like Nateabusa I wonder whether Marvel CAN make this movie. I'm not sure whether the Namor came with the Fantastic 4 package, but Fox also owns the rights to the X-Men and all related characters, and I'm not sure how far that extends. If it includes all Mutants we probably won't be seeing Namor.

second that notion, both excellent starting points for an introduction. I'd love to see a live cgi of the torch discovering who he is and giving him the flame shave he did.

It would be AWESOME to have a Namor movie. And they would have to keep the wingletts. Those are one of my favorite parts of the sub-mariner.

Really? Whats the big deal about him? I know nothing about him. His story Is not interesting to me. Only once I've thought he was cool and that's when he stood up to Osborn when Osborn gave him a order. Other than that hes just as useless as Aquaman

I actually read an interview from CBM with Joe Johnston saying that Namor will be in Captain America and without wings.

@Shadowdoggy: Jason Behr could possibly work...but im thinkn there someone better out there with more of a look alike...:T and honestly...Namor is one of those characters that needs to have an actor who look JUST like him because of his different facial features. Human looking characters now days dont have facial features that stand out from others anymore...but namor does (the sharp eyebrow arch and eyes)...so he needs someone thats perfect.

I keep hearing Stan drop this name in interviews so I never doubted it was always
on the table (he brings up a SHIELD movie even more, i'm surprised i never here talk
of it, considering the Nick Fury reinforcement in all the films). I want it. For one the idea
of Atlantis on film appeals to me. Also while i'm not outright saying i don't like the spread
of titles they already use, i want to see more unused properties tapped for good or ill, rather
than more reboots and sequels of films that already did their job.

As much as I would like it to be so, I doubt the poster is real. However, I do think a Namor movie is a possibility. There is just so much potential with the character for a unique comic book movie. Many people see the underwater aspect as a negative, but I think that's what sets the movie apart from the rest of the genre. Granted, it would take a director of great vision to create that world... And either a large budget ... or perhaps something animated.

Namor

Namor the Sub-Mariner is the ruler of undersea Atlantis. The offspring of a sea captain and an Atlantean princess, he has been both a hero and a villain to the surface world. Namor is one of Marvel's oldest published characters with his origins in The Golden Age of Comics.
