Namor, the Sub-Mariner is the hybrid king of Atlantis, both a hero and sometimes aggressor to the surface world. Edit

News

Origin

Captain Leonard McKenzie was on an expedition in the 1920's to Antarctica, looking for the mystical Helmet of Power. The ship was stuck in ice floes, so McKenzie used dynamite to break them up, not knowing that Atlantis was directly below. The city was severely hurt, and the Atlantean Emperor Tha-Korr sent his daughter Princess Fen to investigate. She ended up finding the ship, surprising them with her blue skin, and staying for several weeks. Fen and McKenzie fell in love and married. But Tha-korr was worried and sent a war party for her. Thinking they held her captive, the war party killed everyone on the ship(except Fen). Nine months later, Fen had Namor, a hybrid between a human and an Atlantean.

He grew up with a nasty temper and hate for the surface world, and when Tha-korr found men in diving suits near Atlantis, Namor assumed it was the beginning of an invasion and attacked the surface world, fighting Jim Hammond, the original Human Torch. But when Nazis attacked Atlantis, he joined Captain America against them. After the war, a series of earthquakes rocked Atlantis, nearly destroying it and killing Tha-korr, Fen, and much of the population. He went up to the surface and found a member of his father's crew, who had found the Helmet of Power and was causing earthquakes. The helmet gave Namor amnesia, and he wandered around New York for a long time as a hobo. Eventually, Human Torch (the second, well-known one, Johnny Storm of Fantastic Four) found him and dropped him the harbor, giving him most of his memory. Namor assumed humans had destroyed Atlantis and went about warring with the surface world. He returned to Atlantis and became monarch and spent a long time as a Fantastic Four enemy, attacking the surface world to destroy the humans. Eventually, he made peace and started begrudgingly helping the surface. Although he spent most of his time as monarch of Atlantis, he helped the surface occasionally. He joined the Defenders and the Illuminati, although the latter recently disbanded. His only care in Civil War is the murder of the Atlantean Princess Namorita, who was killed by Nitro in the Stamford explosion. Namor ordered the capture of Nitro and with the help of Wolverine, Nitro became an "honorary guest" in an Atlantean prison. During the final battle of the Civil War, Namor help Captain America by leading an attack with several Atlantean warriors because of his opposition to the Super-Human Registration Act. Prior to the events of the World War Hulk, Namor is the only one who opposed the idea of exiling the Hulk for reasons that he will just come back and even angrier than before. When Namor discovered that he has a son named Kamar, who have stolen the kingdom from him and starting a war to the surface world. Because of this, Namor had to evacuate Atlantis and let his people live within the splinter cells, while leaving behind Nitro to destroy his kingdom along with Kamar. Namor then made a pact with Doctor Doom to let the Atlanteans to stay in his country of Latveria.

Personality

Namor was one of the original "hotheaded" characters in the Marvel cast of characters. He has been shown to act very impulsively and irrationally with a short temper. Other times he can be as civil as royal nobility. It has been mentioned in Namor, the Sub-Mariner that his extreme erratic behaviors are due to chemical imbalances in his body.

Powers

Sub-Mariner is very strong, able to lift about 100 tons while in contact with water. He has superhuman stamina and durability, but his powers slowly decrease as he spends time out of water. He can fly and survive indefinitely in water or on land. Although being deprived of water for long periods can make him ill and relatively weak, he once spent several years living as an amnesiac human in the Bowery region of New York after being mindwiped by Paul Destine. He can swim at torpedo-like speeds. He also has an extended lifespan being well over 80 years old, yet physically still in his prime.

Namor also has the ability to channel the powers of any aquatic life in he sea. For example, channeling the power of an electric ell and shooting elictric bolts from his hands . In Ultimate Fantastic Four series Namor has the ability to sumon a giant spirit of the sea who almost wipes out New York City .Mutant?

Namor is often said to be the first Marvel mutant which is true chronologically. He is not the oldest mutant though, there are several mutants older than him such as Selene and Apocalypse.

Namor's mutant power is the wings on his ankles, and possibly his greater degree of strength. All his other powers are a result of his human-Atlantean hybrid nature.
