  THE RISE OF CAPTAIN V

The Assassination of President Steve Rogers (Captain America) gave way to the leadership and takeover by Vance Astro (Captain V).He built the Avengers forces to actual army size. Most members were not reserved for certain missions but sent on every one.Vance gave his team the OK to use as much force as needed or as much force as they wanted. He began signing up members like The Punisher,Wolverine, and Ares.Vigilantes who didn't know the meaning of heroism. They killed and offed criminals as if they were hunting them.Captain Carol Danvers brought these actions to Vance's attention and was imprisoned for questioning him.Vance's brother,Colt Python was annoyed by Vance's plan of revenge on villany for the death of Captain America. That day Colt was the first person to defeat Vance singlehandedly in battle. He replaced the defeated Vance in imprisonment with Carol Danvers (Ms.Marvel) at the point of rebuilding the Avengers. He dismissed several members and built a smaller team;however the team lost merit as an actual superhero team in scrutiny of Vance's actions. This later led to legal claims against them by Henry Gyrich. He claimed to the supreme court that the Avengers were unjust vigilantes who are out for blood,he also claimed that their Initiative program didn't actually train heroes but taught them to focus their powers toward murdering people who could likely be reformed as heroes or as proper citizens.

FALL OF CAPTAIN V: THE AGREEMENT

The Avengers were put under surveillance by the American government and informed by S.H.I.E.L.D that actions would be taken if they continued in their reckless behavior.Colt put together the best possible team of true heroic Avengers.Their outlook was effectively decent but things became ugly when Vance persuaded Iron Man to release him.A part of the Avengers agreement with the government is that he would never be allowed to return to active duty. For a while his presence on the team was unnoticed. He appeared as their newest Avenger, the new Captain America. In a battle to aid Wakanda in redeeming their land at the hands of Erik Killmonger, several Avengers were killed including Colt Python but more importantly Captain America's mask was ripped revealing to the government officials watching over the Avengers project that he was indeed Vance Astro. That completely broke the agreement between the government and the Avengers and led to the Registration Act.

ROAD TO CIVIL WAR

The registration act was imposed to the American Government in a joint effort by Director of S.H.I.E.L.D,Marc Spector and Attorney General Hank Gyrich in an attempt to make superheroes register with the government in hopes they would be trained properly and be easier to bring to justice when they commit crimes themselves. The Avengers continued to operate after this proposal, but soon went their separate ways because of their differences in opinion on the act.

  Powers

Mastery of Sorcery (Formerly): Dr. Strange is the Sorcerer Supreme of Earth's Universe; he has unparalleled mastery of the mystic arts, which he uses to defend his reality from otherworldly threats; his primary magical patrons are a group of entities known as "the Vishanti." The Vishanti are a trinity of godly beings comprised of Agamotto, Hoggoth, and Oshtur. Although he has, on rare occasions, called upon the power of demons such as Dormammu; Strange more frequently did so before he realized Dormammu's true dark nature in the earlier issues. Doctor Strange is potentially the most powerful being on Earth and one of the most powerful beings in the Universe, but as of late, from his severe hand injuries, he is unable to control his magic properly and is only a shadow of his former power because of the lack of control. Strange is no longer the Sorcerer Supreme, having lost his station by performing too much destructive and dark magic.

Divine Sources: Dr. Strange can channel energy from countless mystical beings in countless dimensions to empower his spells. This can take the form of standard spells ("Crimson Bands of Cyttorak") or just stating what he wants to occur and channeling some being to make it happen. It is unknown at this time what debt, if any, he incurs by invoking the powers that be. There is no strict quid pro quo (as the simple acknowledgement and invoking of the entity increases the entity's own powers, inexplicably), though some entities will feel he is obliged to heed their call when they need help in their conflicts as did the Vishanti.

Darkness of the Divine Conduit (Black Magic): By sheer force of will "take" the power of another entity. This does not require the use of a spell. He used this ability against Arioch and Shuma-Gorath. The fact that Stephen can do this is a testament to his incredible will-power and strength of mind. This is considered black magic and as such he rarely employs this. Also when taking the powers of celestial entities he absorbs the mind and assumes their duties and roles in the dimension in which they exist. If his will falters, he can lose all sense of self.

Although Dr. Strange primarily uses spells that are considered 'white magic', he will use spells from other disciplines such as black magic, elemental magic, and catastrophe magic when necessary.

Strange holds an M.D. in neurosurgery, although his ability to perform such delicate tasks has been compromised due to his accident. He is also an accomplished martial artist, learning martial arts as part of his training to be a mystic, able to dodge a kung fu chop by Mantis, something "only three others have ever done", and possesses considerable strategic skills, which he has employed as leader of the Defenders, all of which, combined with his level of intellect rivaling that of Reed Richards, Tony Stark, and the other great minds of the Marvel Universe and surpassing even those of amazingly gifted intelligence such as Peter Parker, makes Strange a most formidable being indeed.

Dr. Strange's powers are all mystical but take several forms. Main manifestations include:

  • Personal abilities — As a result of his mystic training, Dr. Strange is capable of manipulating the forces of magic as well as reality for a great many abilities such as astral projection, telepathy, hypnotism or mesmerism, thought-casting, illusion-casting, and several others. These are put in a separate category because he seems to perform these functions as a telepath would, not needing to manipulate magic to do it. These abilities can be exhausted through over-use but can be amplified by mystic energy (as against Moondragon) or the Eye of Agamotto (done countless times) to afford Strange powerful psychic abilities. Doctor Strange uses astral projection more frequently than any of his other abilties, as it is among his own personal abilties and he has mastered it for many decades. In his astral form, Doctor Strange does not need to breathe, eat, drink or sleep, is unrestricted by physical laws (for example, Strange has flown beyond Earth’s atmosphere, defying gravity with ease to speak with Iron Man), is invisible (though can be seen by any if he wished it so), intangible, and incapable of being harmed by all but the most powerful and rigorous of mystic means. As no physical laws are meaningless on the astral plane, Strange is able to use it to traverse at virtually any speed desirable (Strange has reached Saint Missouri, Missouri from his Sanctum Sanctorum in Greenwich Village, New York in "a few brief seconds" thus , as well as traveling at the "speed of thought" through outer space ). Such is the skill and mastery of Doctor Strange that he is capable of spending up to 24 hours upon the astral plane before he must rejoin his ethereal form with his physical one, lest succumb to corporeal deterioration leading to bodily death and eternal suspension as a spirit. The physical form remains in an inert, death-like trance, vulnerable to both physical and magical forms of harm while the astral form is absent. If harm were to befall his physical form while he was in his astral form, he would be stranded in his wraith-like state. Though Strange has only his personal abilities in his astral form, the Ring of the Ancient One/Ring (of Full Power) can grant him access to the same resources he possesses in his physical body; however, certain writers and editors appear to have portrayed Strange in an astral form capable of feats beyond his personal abilities even without the Ring.
  • Universal sources — By manipulating the ambient mystical energy of this universe, Dr. Strange can perform a great many functions. Commonly this is seen as energy bolts that range from low power to planet destroying, transmutation, telekinesis, teleportation, protective shields, etc. He uses this mystical energy to cast spells of a near infinite variety. Dr. Strange has also been shown to amass as much wealth/gold as he desires using magic, as he has done to pay debts.
  • Divine sources — Dr. Strange can channel the virtually unlimited extra-dimensional energy of nigh-omnipotent mystical and non-mystical beings in multiple dimensions (known as Principalities) to empower his spells, as many other sorcerers do. This can take the form of standard spells ("Crimson Bands of Cyttorak") or just stating what he wants to occur and channeling some being to make it happen. This ability to be a conduit to multiversal power sources has given rise to the phrase "Dr. Strange is as powerful as the god he invokes."

Doctor Strange's powers typically come from one of three divine sources: The Vishanti (a trinity formed of Hoggoth, Oshtur, and Agamotto), the Octessence (a group of eight beings, consisting of Balthakk, Cyttorak, Farallah, Ikonn, Krakkan, Raggadorr, Valtorr, and Watoomb) and other beings who owe him a debt (this includes Satannish and even Dormammu). However, certain abilties of his stem from more obscure sources, such as the Faltine, the Seraphim, Cinnibus, Sheol, Ikthalon, Denak, Cyndriarr, Munnopor, Morpheus, Dyzakk, the Olympian deities (such as Poseidon and Hades) and others.

  • In the miniseries "The Oath", it is said that he cannot use magic that can replicate anything discovered by human science.
  • By force of will, Dr. Strange can "take" the power of another entity. This does not require the use of a spell. He uses this ability against Captain Universe as well as against Arioch and Shuma-Gorath in Strange Tales Volume 2. Strange also uses this to drain the Wrecking Crew of the Asgardian magic they had been infused by Karnilla, though this causes him great mental agony and takes a long time. This is considered black magic and as such, he rarely employs this. Also, when taking the powers of omnipotent entities, he can absorb their mind and assume their duties and roles in the dimension in which they exist. But, if his will falters, he can lose all sense of self.
  • In the Black Magic saga in Strange Tales (vol. 2), Dr. Strange also became proficient in Black Magic under the tutelage of Kaluu, including using the necromantic energy released in death for various effects. After he purged Shuma-Gorath from himself, he has since stopped using black magic.
  • At a certain period, Dr. Strange became a receptacle of Earth's Gaia magic through the use of a forge built with the support of all his magical artifacts. This energy was exhausted in the War of Seven Spheres.
  • For a brief period, research from the Vishanti library led Strange to tap into "catastrophe magic" by invoking a mystical alignment of all the planets, but this source of magic was limited and he ceased using it specifically as a source of his power.
  • Strange's magical powers at their greatest peak exceeds that of even the Watcher Uatu and rivals that of other great beings, such as the Heralds of Galactus or Ronan the Accuser. Strange has been shown to be able to destroy the Hulk with a twitch of his finger.

Virtually any human is capable of learning and harnessing magic — considered simply another form of energy within continuity, one which apparently stems from stars — through training; however, each person has a different potential.

Dr. Strange is functionally immortal, having the immortality conferred upon him by the Ancient One after Strange assumed the title of Sorcerer Supreme. He does not age nor succumb to medical diseases, though he can be killed. His physical appearance is usually a man in his 40's even though he is chronologically in his 80's, though this is more likely attributed to the Marvel concept of a floating timeline. He also survived five thousand years in the War of Seven Spheres but his memory of this period has magically faded so it may not count towards his chronological age.

Doctor Strange has certain weaknesses, however, exploitable by adversaries and opponents: It has been said Strange's power is weaker against strictly science-based opponents, though this is illogical, as many times it has been stated magic is superior to science. Strange also depends on spoken incantations, mystical gesturing, and his arcane artifacts in his duties; likely these can be counted as weaknesses, as Strange was incapacitated various times by being gagged and bound, preventing him from uttering arcane invocations or performing mystic gestures. Another weakness is that Strange, despite all his spells and magical training, is only "human physically." Hence, if not taking proper care or defense, Strange can be overpowered by mere blows, energy attacks, or gas.

Abilities

Expert Occultist

Expert Magical Knowledge

Expert Surgeon: Though an expert surgeon, Strange's nerve-damaged hands prevent him from performing surgery except when supplemented by magic. However, even without magic, Strange has shown himself capable of providing reasonable guidance to other less skilled, yet unmaimed surgeons through intense effort and strain. Strange is still capable of serving as a consultant.

Skilled Martial Artist Dr. Strange is a skilled athlete and was trained in the martial arts used by Tibetan monks in Kamar Taj, sufficient in talent to pass down such training to others, such as Clea. These talents have assisted him time-to-time when incapable of using his sorcery. Strange is a formidable opponent to any skilled attacker and continues to train regularly with Wong. He has in some cases, been known to occasionally spar with other heroes; in one case, Strange was able to evade a kung fu hand-chop by Mantis (the future mother of the Dreaming Celestial and who has been able to subdue Thor in sheer physical combat, despite his strength nearly hundreds of times superior to her own), something "only three others have ever done."

I'm placing my ratings her so I can keep track of them....

1-Makes really bad cases based on misconceptions and lack of knowledge, says things that aren't true, shows out of context scans, trolls
2-Not very good, noob to the site and to comics, simply doesn't know enough to make a valid case
3-Lurks on comicvine, usually gives a one word answer with a fair ratio of actually being right, lacks the knowledge but not so much the debating ability
4-Mediorce at best, stubborn about their arguments although they may not know what their talking about or try to agree to disagree when they are simply wrong, hypocrites
5-Average-nothing great but not a bad debater either
6-Good Debater-consistently makes good arguments, may not be fully informed on every character
7-Great Debater-not only makes good arguments but drops knowledge on those who don't know the characters well
8-Elite Debater-recognizable by name for their debates, very consistent and reasonable

Here I'm going to review random things that don't have a place for review on this site,i'll kick it off with.....

HEROES

Does anyone still watch this? Heroes has become the biggest disappointment on network television. When the show first came out,I was like, "this is awesome", there is finally something on television to watch on Mondays.I was telling people about it.Trying to get them into it.Now it's like..."please go the f#ck off the air so i'm not tempted to waste an hour on this bullsh#t".Where is this show even going? They did all that build up last season and it led to nothing.Absolutely nothing.Nothing interesting happened at the end of that season. After the whole Agency thing got shut down. The show fell off.Last season was just, "let's see how many people Sylar can kill before people catch on that nothing is happening in this show." I don't even know why the show is called heroes anymore.I haven't really seen anything heroic.I've seen bad attempts at heroism.I have yet to actually come across a character in that entire show I consider a hero.Accept maybe Peter Petrelli because he's a paramedic. He saves people all the time.Everyone else is either on the run,or dead,or lost their powers,or refuses to use their powers. It's getting ridiculous. What did the recession cut the special effects budget? Is that it? Is that why there will be a whole episode where you see powers used once.I don't know.I'm going to give this show one more try.I'll watch next week but if that episode sucks.I'm done.I can't take it anymore.I don't even have a favorite character now because they killed her off.I'm sick of Hiro,I'm sick of Claire,I'm sick of Parkman.I'm definitely sick of Sylar.I'm going to need them to do something interesting for a change, instead of wasting film on nothing.

I give HEROES as a series a...
4 out of 10.Way to drop the ball.Something that had so much potential..now no good.

I change my avatar whenever I get tired of looking at my current one.I also change my avatar with holidays and current events. For example on Valentine's Day I had a cupid avatar and when I first heard about the Chris Brown and Rihanna incident..I had a Rihanna avatar.Mostly though I change my avatar just to do something new.Sometimes I might change it because of my mood though.Sometimes I might be pissed off and my avatarmay be too gentle for that so I will switch to a character with a more serious look.

This was a really good book.I like where this is going.I'm curious to see how Norman taking over the Initiative is going to pan out.It seems the Hood & Taskmaster are just lackeys at this point and further solicits almost suggest that Taskmaster will be joining the Dark Illuminati or Cabal.I like this new Avengers Resistance, but not so much what they did to Komodo. That sucks.Sure she's extra smart and all that and could still help the team but now that she's in a wheelchair I forsee alot of Oracle like qualities for her.Anyway,I like the fact that we finally got to see Constrictor do something useful for once..but i'm not to fond of his relationship with Diamondback. It's kind of random but understandable.I would like for a change to actually see Diamondback do something.I mean I haven't seen her do anything useful in ages.Overall I loved the book. The art was pretty good. The story was major, the ending was surprising, some of the concepts used in the comic were interesting.I can't wait to see what happens next issue.

I don't know why I picked this up but I did and it sucks.I don't like the character anyway and I should have known but I bought it anyway to have all the Dark Reign tie-ins.This comic is terrible. The art sucks, the dialogue attempts to be funny and it's not and the whole premise behind it is lame. Also I was under the impression Iron Man killed M.O.D.O.K so i'm pissed he's getting a tie-in.He goes to a High school reunion for god sakes! M.O.D.O.K went to high school? Is he even a person? They let him in school? He's a head with arms and legs sticking out! This comics is absolutely ridiculous and extremely short. It's almost not a comic. It's like a short in the back of another comic. This didn't deserve the print.

I didn't actually read the comic.I have the motion comic version and I have to say it wasn't bad.I'm not to fond of the voice overs though.I couldn't tell if Jessica has a New York accent or a British Accent. It sounded like both lol.Anyway,in this comic we see the beginning of Jessica's affiliation with S.W.O.R.D.Agent Brand blames herself for what happened to her with the whole Secret Invasion and Queen Veranke thing and offers her a job at S.W.O.R.D.I believe she is in bed when Spider-Man comes in talking some Avengers nonsense and Jessica doesn't by it so in turn she ends up fighting in him and uncovering him as a skrull. It was a pretty good comic for the first issue and on top of that the animation wasn't so bad.I love Alex Maleev's art.I hope to see it throughout this entire comic. His art goes so well with Jessica Drew.

Ok..so coming into this I had just read Captain America #600 and #601 and I must say they were slightly disappointing. As a huge DD fan,I want to hope the best for this but Brubaker wrote both so anything could happen (I like Brubaker's work though). Now The cover is absolutely amazing.I bought 2 copies of the Variant and one of the original cover. The artwork in DD has been consistently good throughout his career. The cover through me off a little bit though because I thought everyone on the cover would be in the book.Sadly, there was no Echo,no Cage,no Iron Fist,no Gladiator,no Spider-Man,No Black Widow and so on and sort forth.I think it was just a collage of his past endeavors as a symbol of the end to all of it.

The story wasn't explosive but it.Introduces a gateway to stories to come.Master Izo basically sets up everything in this book so the DD ends up being the new leader of the Hand. It's very ingenious and DD gets his revenge on Lady Bullseye. He swiftly makes lightwork of her.We also the demise of the Owl and Murdock give up hope with his wife. This is the comic that would end this era in Daredevil and usher in Diggie's era.I think Brubaker made a very good impression on DD.He definately left his mark.

Ok,let's skip the semantics. This book sucks.I didn't review the first issue because I wanted to give the book as chance.Firestar,Pulsar,Black Cat,Hellcat are all really good characters.I like them..I really do,but why have this flashy superhero style covers and pretend this is an action packed book when you get into it....it is the worst thing you will ever read.Is this Marvel's attempt at getting women to read comics? Is that what this is? As a male should I stop reading this now and save the trouble.I mean the back and forth banter between them is so lame.

I'm giving this a 1 out of 5.This i the biggest disappointment in Marvel History.

Now,I was a bit skeptical coming into this book because this seems like another one of those gimmick books like Marvel Apes or Marvel Zombies, but actually this book is very well written and after reading 3 issues..I have yet to see any bad art.So basically what it is is Lockjaw has a task and he needs help doing it so he assembles a team of superhero pets like him. They are so cute with their little animal adventures, fighting T-rex's and what not.

I would definitely recommend buying this and the variants just for the art.A an Avengers fan I was thoroughly satisfied. In fact I liked this more than some issues of Dark,New,and Mighty Avengers.

I give it a 3.5 OUT OF  5.

Ok,Dark Avengers #2 was a very exciting comic for me.I am a huge fan of anything Avengers and this comic just reassured me.The way everyone is being portrayed is really good.I like how Norman is acting more like Tony did when he was Director of S.H.I.E.L.D...like a real leader.I love how everyone else is taking the roles of other characters but are still themselves.I also enjoyed the humor in this book.First with Victoria Hand offering to replace Venom with D-Man,a homeless superhero and then with the new Ms.Marvel (Karla Sofen) aka. Moonstone ragging on Daken because she didn't know who he was.The team surprisingly seems to work pretty well together and get along. You would think some of these characters would clash just based on their nature. For me this book gave back the Avengers feel...back when New Avengers was reforming.Everyone getting acquainted and things like that and everyone kind of being skeptical about the team thing and the team not really matching up well, everyone seems kind of randomly thrown in.I like that tone in the beginning of a comic such as this.

The story wasn't the only thing that caught my eye though. The visuals were perfect for this book.Deodoto.Jr had to do this book.Nobody but him could have made this book come alive like this. The team has a Thunderbolts feel to it and his art was great in that and now with Dark Avengers it still sticks and what's better he'll get to use alot more characters because Dark Avengers has a larger jurisdiction.Overall it was a good book.I wouldn't say as a whole it was perfect but definitely worth a purchase and a read.

Ok..this was a pretty good issue.I actually like this team. It's a good an diverse roster of characters.I rather enjoyed the fighting in the comic..the Agents work very well as a team.I cannot say their is anyone on this team I don't like..even Gorrilla-Man (and I am usually opposed to animal characters..especially apes).I still feel like I didn't get enough from the first issue.I don't know where it's going..what's in store for issue two.The Agents seem to be making some type of deal with Osborn that he is actually interested in.Neither of them trust each other so I am banking on betreyal. The Agents seem to have their own Agenda though. They are one of the only parties in Marvel right now that aren't really good or bad..just in the middle.I thought it was Hilarious that Man Mountain Marko was eaten by Lao..the Dragon in which Jimmy Woo had been taken advice from, and what made it more funny was that he was warned before hand that if he veered off the course..his safety couldn't be guaranteed.
There was an instance in the comic where Venus manipulated Sentry to get her to Osborn..which brings me to the point..Sentry is so easily manipulated. The fact he is working for Osborn itself proves that. Not that the Goddess,Venus couldn't have manipulated any man but Sentry is extra accepting of things like this. The end of the book brings you too the past where the Agents teamed up with Wolverine against the Brood..and the fight was pretty lame but the dialouge and the team work was there. The art was pretty bad too.I don't bother to look at the artists name if I don't know it and he's terrible.

Overall the comic was great. The art in the beggining of the comics was great but when they went off into the past it kind of fell off. There wasn't much action but it's the first issue and I expected that but this team shows promise.I like the roster..it's well rounded and they seem to be a different sort of team to what we are used to seeing so..I can't wait until the next issue.I just hope the art remains consistent and I am right about this being a good team.I hope the comic doesn't fall of and get really boring.

Well I must say from the beginning I wasn't a big fan of Pixie so when 501 came out and I knew it was going to be a storyline involving Pixie.I had my doubts about it. This comic seemed to be like a start over for the X-men. Like they are returning to being the X-men team that I always enjoyed.
So the team has relocated to San Francisco in their new base which will possibly be there new permanent home.I never cared to much about where any teams base was,nor do I think there was a great reason to move...but whatever,it's something new.

X-men comics have been pretty hardcore lately,in fact most comics involving mutants have...especially X-Force. Our favorite pink haired mutant, Pixie received a royal stomping at the hands of the Hellfire Cult. She fought back though...I liked that side of her.I like to see what a character does in situations like that. Meanwhile Cyclops and Emma are having this conversation about furthering the race and making babies and all that jazz, but the whole time I was thinking....Why is the art so bad? Greg Land usually does it for me but his art in this book was garbage. His expressions looked fake,Emma and Cyclops look just plain weird,it just looked artificial.

Other than that there was the classic X-man to X-man banter which I love,Pixie popping up half dead, the Red Queen's S&M outfit, and a little Karma at the end, if you know what I mean.

I'm giving this a 4 out of 5.The art wasn't that bad, just the parts with Emma and Cyclops, maybe Land didn't have any good material to copy, the rest of it was really good, and as a person who just got back into X-men I can say it really captured the feel of what I always liked about X-men.The whole hanging out in the mansion, one loner getting chased down by the Hellfire Cult or the FOH, and then Wolverine going to Avenge a young member. It was usually Jubilee back in the day but now it's Pixie.

Everyone I thought I count on, has let me die. Everyone I thought I could lean on, Has made me cry. Everytime I close my eyes there's nothing there. Feeling empty is all I have left, There's nothing else to bare. And I realize, that I've lost my mind. And I realize, that I am the lie. It's over, my time to shine. I'm already dead, so why can't I die.
