How many of you remember X-Men Arcade from 1992? I know I lost alot quarters on this game. It was all good times then. Now I play games on my PS2 and PC. I had hoped that the X-Men Arcade classic would have been released for the home systems by now. Oh well
X-Men is an arcade game produced by Konami in 1992. It is a side-scrolling fighting game based on the characters of the same name under license from Marvel Comics. The animation of the X-Men and the supervillains is based on the 1989 X-Men pilot episode titled Pryde of the X-Men.
Each player can choose to be one of six characters: Cyclops, Colossus, Wolverine, Storm, Nightcrawler, and Dazzler. The game play was similar to Double Dragon, The Simpsons, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Each character has different attacks and Mutant Powers consume three units of your energy meter. You receive an extra unit when a level has been completed.
The objective is to stop the villain Magneto from wreaking havoc on human civilization. They must fight through an army of hundreds of Sentinels and supervillains such as Pyro, Blob, Wendigo, Nimrod, The White Queen, Living Monolith, Juggernaut--who strangely wields a bazooka in his boss fight-- and Mystique, who was also a boss enemy in the game, although she simply took the form of Magneto and attacked players with punches and kicks. Later, Magneto kidnaps Professor X and Kitty Pryde, prompting the heroes to go on a rescue mission.
Here's another game I remember playing back in the day. Some of you may remember the crappy NES game, X-Men from 1988. This has got to be the biggest slap in the face to X-Men fans. I remember being utterly puzzled and confused when trying to play this game. Here are some videos. Enjoy...I guess.![]()
X-Men Mutant Academy 2 came out in 2001 on the PS1. It was a solid sequel to the first fighter and similar to Mortal Kombat 4. Like its predecessor, the game allows you to select from several heroes and villains and includes many of the signature moves from the comic. Here is a pretty interesting CGI video I found.
