Fear

The eerie surroundings of Gotham’s night life propelled throughout the city. A dark mist travels the sky covering the tall gothic buildings. In the back of an alley a man is dumping garbage into a dustbin. “Hey! Nathan! Nathan! Get off your lazy butt and get the rest of this crap out!” shouted a seemingly overweight man. A dark haired man comes out the door with a small bag of garbage. The overweight man looks down at the bag with a hint of depression on his face “Kid! You best start acting your age! How old are you twenty?” the man, now with a serious look upon his face. “I’m eighteen, tony!” Nathan said slightly annoyed. “Well that’s still old enough!” Tony said with an aggressive tone to his voice while emptying the rest of the garbage Nathan brought. “Well go on...head off home.” Tony said with a hint of reluctance. Tony walks back into the store and Nathan walks off into the darkness of the Gotham night. The light from the shops of Gotham light the floor that Nathan walks on. While he walks on, between each gap of light he enters he feels a slight shiver running up his spine and then one step into the darkness he feels the cold go right through his body like someone walked right through him. He drops to the floor and falls to his hands and knees. He quickly looks back but sees nothing. One thought enters his head: get home. He begins to walks quicker, keeping his head down so he doesn’t see anything he’ll regret later. As he walks off something is watching him in the shades of the Gotham night, its watches Nathan seeing energy pulse around Nathan like kinetic force trying to break out like supersonic sight...like a bat.

He reaches his apartment; it looks rather run-down and old. Nathan looks behind him before he walks in. He enters his apartment; one bed room with just a bed and crappy television, a kitchen just off the living room and a bathroom. He walks into his room and drops onto his bed and slowly falls asleep. In the middle of the night Nathan is suddenly woken up by a scream outside. He goes to his window which overviews down-town Gotham. He sees smoke coming from one the east side of Gotham and fire coming from the west. He looks down and sees someone looking up at him, Nathan quickly put off backs away and closes his curtains and sits on his sofa and watches television to help him fall asleep. A breaking news announcement comes up, a women appears and says

‘This hour we remember the lives lost in the battle of Gotham 10 years ago today. The great disaster of 2025 we lost heroes like Alan Scott, Wally West, Jay Garrick, Oliver Queen, Freddy Freeman, Ted Grant, Rick Tyler, Pieter Cross, Jesse Chambers...’ Nathan falls asleep...he wakes up 2 hours later ‘these people put their lives at risk for the safety of this planet. After the war was over we were told by Superman their names so that we could remember and honour them. They may at the time his under masks, but the most important knowledge we take from this was that they were still human and sacrificed their loves for other and today is the day we thanks them and their families.’

Nathan turns the television off and as he presses the off button an explosion is set off outside. He runs to the window and sees a huge grey withered old monster coming out of it. Nathan hears the sound of thunder above him and feels a shockwave come from the floor where the monster was. The shockwave reverberates around the area smashing windows past 20 blocks including Nathans. A slowly takes a peak out and sees a woman wearing white and a red cape. “Power Women!” Nathan said with relief. The old looking grey monster grabs Power Women’s arms and swings her around and lets her go, she is sent flying in Nathan’s direction he quickly drops to the floor as she breaks through the brick walls of his rooms. She gets up and sees Nathan on the floor, she pulls him up as she does, her ears flicker and she turns around and lets out a powerful blast of heat vision from her eyes and they make contact with another enemy that tries to sneak up on her. She quickly turns and looks at Nathan, “I’m okay!” he said hastily with a whimper of panic as she speeds up into the air. Power Women is hit back down to the floor by the person who tried to sneak up on her, she smashed into the concrete leaving a big hole off the impact. She leans forward and rubs her head like she head a head ache “I need help here!” she said assertively.

Nathan now is running down the stairs full of adrenalin, he gets to the door and sees Power Women fighting against the two enemies, but this time she has help. “Cool...Black Adam.” He said calmly. While watching he sees a man in an orange suit come out from the ground behind Black Adam “ADAM, BEHIND TOU!” quickly shouted Nathan, Black Adam turns and swings his arm; however his arm goes right through the man in the orange suit. A sound like a sonic boom is heard by Nathan, he can’t tell where it’s coming from, but looks in all directions and then a yellow blurred stream comes from one direction, hits Black Adam and takes him with him in the other direction away from the battle. Nathan starts running away from the battle, finally having enough of it. While having his back turned to the battle all he can hear are the sounds of explosions. He hides behind a wall far away from the battling; he closes his eyes and leans on the wall trying to catch his breath back. “At least...no one...can get me...here.” said Nathan feeling very exhausted “Oh, but Johnny Sorrow can.” said Johnny Sorrow cruelly “How dare you intervene with my plans. Allow me to show my appreciation.” Nathan is frozen solid. Johnny Sorrow reaches for his mask “Kid, look away!” said a voice, Nathan looks straight at the man “Batman, help!” Nathan said with fear. Batman throws a ball towards Johnny Sorrow and Nathan and within seconds explodes with shinning white light making Johnny Sorrow’s attempt of removing his mask a failure all the while Batman swings in and grabs Nathan and pulls him out of the Sorrow’s way. They lands on a roof “Stay here and you’ll be...” Batman is cut off half way through because he is now surrounded by 20 Ninjas, the fist ninja jumps towards Batman but an arrow comes from nowhere and hits the ninja sticking him into the wall, the rest of the ninjas all move in on Batman. Batman now fighting many ninjas is now joined by a man in a green suit with arrows and begins attack the ninjas and within seconds they beat them all quite easily. “Ra’s’ men!” said Batman confidently “I figured that much.” said the guy in the green. The earth begins to shake suddenly, Nathan tries to catch his balance while the other two seemingly unfazed, and Batman looks over the building they are atop of “It’s Doomsday!“ said Batman with a hint of hesitation. “Wonder Woman, Flash, Starwomen we need you right away. Join me, Green Arrow, Black Adam and Power Women in Gotham.” said Batman this time without hesitation. “I see him. Solomon Grundy is being taken care of by Power Women; Black Adam remains to be seen.” said a voice from a blurred person “Flash. Zoom’s battling him. Johnny Sorrow’s on the ground. Sabbac was around a minute ago, but we lost him.” said Batman “Guys...found him.” said Green Arrow pointing upwards, Sabbac is closing in on them and just before he gets there Wonder Woman and Starwoman together punch him far away. While everyone is busy, and Nathan watches onwards with amazement and owe Johnny Sorrow comes up from the ground below, no one has seen him. Everyone hears a scream from behind; when everyone looks they see Jonny Sorrow facing Nathans way without his mask on “NOOO!” said Batman trying to reach Nathan. Nathan falls to the floor screaming loudly clutching his face in pain, then silence as he lands face down on the floor. Johnny Sorrow puts his mask back on, Batman jumps but is too late and goes through Johnny Sorrow and hits the wall. Laughed comes from Johnny Sorrow and then he stops, he looks at Nathan. He is getting up slowly, looks at Sorrow with aggression on his face, and golden lighting coming from his eyes. When looking at Sorrow he sees a black aura around him, like smoke of a fire, he looks at Batman and sees calming white light coming from him. Everyone else is looking amazed that Nathan lived from seeing Johnny Sorrow’s face. “I tired of being afraid!” said Nathan with gusto.
