I like drawing Chibi versions of any character. I drew a chibi version of Deadpool for a Comic Vine art contest [link] and more recently a Kitty Pryde chibi with her “fishbowl” outfit [link].

The other day I decided I wanted to do another chibi incarnation (Yes, just like that). For those of you who don’t know, “chibi” is a term usually used to describe a smaller, cuter representation of a fictional character.

As you might have realized by now, because of the title, I decided to draw the chibi of Sue Storm. Then again as I was drawing I thought it would be pretty boring to just draw her… So Why not draw her love interest? No, not Reed.

While Namor is now one of the pivotal members of the X-Men, he is well known as the Invisible Girl’s persistent love interest. One of the hardest things to draw about the FF’s Invisible Woman is the invisibility of her powers. Like Steve Mcniven did on his first run of Marvel Knights’ 4, I decided to let the environment describe the invisible force field instead of a see-through visual representation, ie. the water and Namor’s body. The Sub-Mariner is usually depicted as a very serious, tough character but in this particular case I decided he needed to be the comedic relief. After drawing all this I ended up realizing that the piece still lacked something…

Who better to get a “Super Deformity” than Mr. Fantastic?! Which is why he was added!
