Once upon a time there was a deity who wanted something to do, she was bored, she was all that there was and she was in darkness and felt very alone.

As near as she could tell it had been dark for a very long time, since she had just invented time, she had a pretty good idea. So she decided she wanted to see what was about so she said, "Let there be light." and there was light, and it was good, but still rather boring. Now she could see the entire nothing around her.

Since she was alone she decided that she didn't need to be, since she was a deity she could do whatever she wanted. So she split in half and each half formed a whole. She looked at her opposite and noted how it was different, as it was examining her.

She realized in that moment she had defined herself as she now had a reference for comparison. The new being regarded her and said "We were one..." she completed the statement. "...now we are two." The two joined together once more in an act of union, and created a world.

She looked down upon their creation and simply said, "Earth", he looked upon her and their creation, their Earth, smiling.

They watched with great interest as Earth grew, the first life upon their creation was very small it was only a single cell, but it existed to consume energy and it was quite efficient in that, but it quickly gave way to more complex life, soon certain forms of life became good at collecting energy from the great source of light to grow, but even more complex life followed certain creatures learned to move about and hunt for food be it stationary or moving itself.

Eventually the creatures who made their homes in what became known as the forest gave rise to very complex life, these creatures lived in trees and were quite adept at climbing, these eventually gave rise to life that no longer belonged in the forest... these creatures began to build homes of their own away from all other creatures like themselves and in their hubris imagined themselves wholly separate and much closer to the creator than the others forms of life.

They began to lose sight of the natural order of co-existing with the others and quickly began to tear down the forest that had birthed them for shelter or fuel, they consumed at a similar rate to the first form of life on Earth, which existed simply to consume. This was Man.

The Earth itself responded, it created new life that had the natural coexistence with everything, but the aggression of those that they were made to watch. The land gave rise to Centaurs, Lycanthropes, and Satyrs and other of their ilk. Charged with ensuring that Mankind not lose it's way these creatures spent became worshipped themselves by certain sects of Mankind as aspects of nature, but other sects made war against them.

This is the world that Satyrquaze had found himself in. His earliest memories consist mainly of reveling in ancient Greece during the Dionysian festivals at dusk. He was seen as an avatar of Sylvanus himself, made manifest on Earth. It was a good life, he lived in peace, worshipping the Earth-Mother; He had his choice of women and himself worshipped as a god.

It could not last forever…

Mankind quickly began to out-populate their sentries and under a gross deception totally corrupted the stories of the creators handed down from generation to generation. Suddenly their Earth-Mother was a Man.

Mankind made war in his name not only on their sentries but on each-other as well.

In the massacres that followed the Centaurs were hunted to extinction. The Satyrs were nearly all wiped out, when their groves were destroyed or turned into churches. The Lycanthropes who could disguise themselves as humans suffered badly but survived nonetheless.

Knowing that some survived, mankind began to tell stories of the vanquished, propaganda if you will, how terrible and evil they were. Lycanthropes became known as the Werewolf who stalked defenseless children at night to eat them. Satyrs became known as demons. He began to hear stories about the vile and evil pagans who sinned as frequently as most pious people took breath, in these stories the prime agent of evil was a Faun-like creature who bore a striking resemblance to Satyrquaze himself.

He soon quietly disappeared from Roman lands. Afterward it is believed he lived among the Celts and the Norse for a time.

He moved on to Norway to live among the last vestiges of civilized people who were not actively hunting him in the name of the One-True-God. He was forced to keep moving constantly.

When the opportunity came to explore the very edge of the world, he took it gladly. He boarded a Longboat along with many of the Bear clan of the Lycanthropes and discovered a new land in 982 AD. Satyrquaze settled there and continued moving. Forming relationships with the mankind there that basis for religion was not paranoia and guilt or pitchforks and torches, but a spiritual one-ness with nature.

This is supported by the legends of Kokopelli taking physical form in the Americas at about the same time. There he continued to prosper long after the Norse settlements were abandoned. He soon found that he could never stay in one place for more than a century before the wanderlust took hold.

He traveled south, following his instincts. Finding himself in a crater in the Yucatan Peninsula, he was surprised to discover a pair of wrist trinkets imbedded in the very stone at the point of impact. They had lain there undiscovered for millennia.

Forcibly removing them from the rock was an arduous task, but when they finally came loose days later, he was so elated that he donned the bands immediately without first really studying them. He quickly found he could channel “magics” through them, create objects, create light, and sear the strongest stone. He also quickly found that he could fly faster than anything else.

As such, he has since wandered the world, staying out of the way of the nascent Church as it grew in power. Up until recently he lived quite openly in the US as a model and an actor, he has three albums on the market, one of which went platinum.

His drunken revelries have always gotten a great amount of media attention, moreso possibly than the when the entire planet is brought to the brink of destruction on a seemingly daily basis.

He had traveled this world since time began in search of the ideal female; it was going to take a special woman indeed to satisfy his hunger, or a bunch of average ones. He mostly comes out at night... mostly. He is as likely to rob a bank, as he is to stop a bank robbery to impress the object of his desires. He had no aspirations of world domination, nor did he see any need to protect the masses from harm. He is a Hedonist to the nth degree.

Satyrquaze is a creature born of magic, while not truly immortal, a satyr’s lifespan is not measurable, they simply live until they choose. he enjoys the simple pleasures that life afforded him he merely required two things to survive. 1) Enchantment. satyrs required some magic left in the world, it is very much like water to them in a vast desert of sterile science and logic. 2) Lust. Built for pleasure, satyrs were known moreso possibly than any other creature to seduce mortals into acts of pure crazed lust. True, a satyr could technically survive without this souce of nourishment, It's truly unknown which is more important, but some satyrs were known to have chosen death rather than be forced into celebacy.

He serves as the living counter-point to Spider-man’s motto. “With great power, comes great responsibility.” To which his usual response is: “Who cares, enjoy it!!”

Last year, he searched the planet for any sign of another Satyr... and found none. Now resigned to the fact that he is the last of his kind.

So, I picked up the first issue of Realm of Kings: Imperial Guard last Wednesday and was sorely disappointed to find that the Realm of Kings one shot was pushed back yet another week. (so far, it's gone from 11/4 to 11/11.. to now 11/18) RoK: IG was basically the consolation prize... well that and the pretty indigo, orange, and yellow power rings.  (Preciousssss)

I've been waiting for the RoK one shot for months now. Wendell Vaughn came back from the dead in Nova #17 in energy form with basically no explanation and while I was happy he was doing SOMETHING, he wasn't really getting his chance to shine. Only when we saw Richard Rider with the Quantum Bands did any new readers have any sort of reminder what Quasar was nominally capable of.

On the plus side, he has a chance to shine here... I hope.

The plot behind RoK is that Quasar has been asked to investigate the Fault (a large rip in the fabric of space/time opened as a result of the War of Kings) on behalf on Project: Pegasus. Quasar’s power, experience, and his energy form make him an ideal choice to scout into the Fault ahead of the Guardians of the Galaxy and the Nova Corps.

In the previews we see Quasar has some self-doubt apparently because he's died and come back in energy form and he's not sure if he's ready to take up his old job of Protector of the Universe. I really think there is a story to be told concerning Quasar's energy form, how he got it and why. I guess DnA feel differently based on the full preview... but maybe it'll be dealt with in another story.

So, I'm really looking forward to this. I mean, I've been waiting long enough for it.

"Regulators have found high levels of neurotoxic manganese in the air outside two schools in Ohio and West Virginia, the latest results of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's efforts to check for chemicals outside schools across the nation.    Government scientists have determined that long-term exposure to manganese can cause mental disabilities and emotional problems, especially in kids."

When I saw the words "Neurotoxic Manganese" I assumed it was an airborne pathogen spread from DBZ fanboy to DBZ fanboy, or it's simply the language that DBZ fanboys speak.

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is ticked off.

He’s tired of signing bills that don’t address the pet causes he deems important. So when another unworthy bill crossed his desk recently for signing — addressing funding issues for the Port of San Francisco — the guv vetoed it and sent lawmakers a little note saying why. Only the note said a little more than lawmakers were expecting.

Buried in the text was a hidden message directed at State Assemblyman Tom Ammiano, author of the bill, according to the San Francisco Bay Guardian.

Ammiano had strongly criticized the governor in early October and reportedly told Schwarzenegger at the time to “kiss my gay ass.” Schwarzenegger’s veto letter, issued a couple of days later, reads:

Missed the hidden code? The Bay Guardian has helpfully picked it out:

So, I became aware of this limited series about 4 months ago when while loitering at my LCS I saw the eye catching painted art of Mauro Cascoili  on the cover.  Then, I noticed the name 'James Robinson' and I distinctly recalled my friend singing his praises one night, so I checked out the first issue.

Check out G-Man's preview here: http://www.comicvine.com/news/justice-league-cry-for-justice-1oh-boy/138552/

The opening scene is just chilling. It depicts a Hal Jordan who is fed up with watching friends and compatriots die during the various crisies. With the most recent deaths of J'onn J'onzz and Batman, Hal has hit his limit. He basically tells Superman and the rest of the League that he's done standing idly by and waiting as villains plot their next strike and perhaps kill again and at one point sounds not unlike I imagine Sinestro might have sounded back in the days before he crossed the line back on Korugar. Oliver Queen backs Hal and they leave as Hal questions if the Justice League places the importance on the word "League" or the word "Justice".

This series has kept me coming back to pick up the following issue for a number of reasons, but one of the big ones is the villain in the story. Prometheus.

This is a character that in his very first appearance challenged the most powerful roster of the JLA to date by himself, and he took out half the team before they realized they were under attack. Prometheus has no powers, he's just got a pretty brillant and inventive criminal mind, high-tech gadgets, and is a master of about a dozen or so martial arts. Sound like anyone you know? Shortly afterwards, he teamed up with Lex to form a new streamlined Injustice League and blew up the Justice League Watchtower during the Magdegon crisis. Batman managed to outmaneuver Prometheus and captured him.

After this, (and this is an opinion I happen to share with James Robinson) Prometheus fell on hard times. He showed up as a henchman to Hush and started using pistols for no reason. Later on, he lost one-on-one to Robin III... with each appearance he seemed less and less competent. Sure, during this period, he knocked out Lady Shiva in about 3 panels of combat, but he had effectively gone from being a credible threat to the entire JLA to being arch-nemesis to the Huntress. (The Huntress? Really??) I am eternally  indebted to Robinson for making an effort to not only awknowledge the damage, but to try to repair the damage to this great Grant Morrison creation.

Also in this series is the continuation of the story of Freddy Freeman. Captain Marvel has also always been a favorite of mine, but I didn't care much for Freddy until he took over the mantle from Billy. Now, I'm glad to see him on the frontlines here, searching for justice.

Which brings us to the title... "Cry for Justice" is taken from the various characters who feel personally touched by all the recent deaths in the DCU. Hal for example, despite not liking Bruce Wayne, feels he should do something about it, demand justice. Which is odd, because in Promethus' first appearance he makes a point of saying it is his wish to 'destroy justice'. So, we'll see how this ends up with Hal's thrown together team of Ollie, Ray Palmer, Freddy, and Kara Zor-El going up against Prometheus' plans.

If you're not reading this mini-series, you're missing out.

*SPOILERS*

Word came down "the vine" (not this vine, another vine...) several weeks in advance... Nova would be retunring to Project: PEGASUS to protect his brother (and the rest of the Project) from the Skrull invasion. I was greatly excited to see what had become of PEGASUS in Earth - 616 since the days of the "Project: PEGASUS Saga" back in 1980. Back then the Chief of Security of a little known hero by the name of Wendell Vaughn. He is only slightly better known as Quasar. I had followed his adventures since he got his own series in 1989 and had gone to the trouble of looking up back issues he appeared in... such as Marvel Two-in-One #53 - 58 where he, the Thing, Thundra, Dr. Bill Foster, and the newly introduced Aquarian saved the world and possibly the entire universe from the Nth Man. For those that don't know, Quasar was my favorite character... but he was murdered during Annihilation.

So, I was a little excited to see what had happened to the Project. i was interested in seeing if the current chief of security was still Blue Shield and if not if the current chief held a candle to Quasar. The day it came out a friend emailed me that he had read it and that I HAD to get to my LCS ASAP and buy it!!! He hinted that the last page would stun me. I pretty much called the comicshop right then and there and had a copy put on hold for me.

So, as soon as I got off work, I went immediately to my local comic shop and picked up the issue off the shelf and paged through it. I'm not a big believer in immediate gratification so I paged through each page and skimmed the story, getting the jist. I was impressed that Darkhawk had graduated to being the security chief, but I wondered what had happened to Blue Shield. I enjoyed the introduction of Director Gruenwald (named for Mark Gruenwald who was one of marvel's better writers during the 80's and 90's, having one of the longest runs on Captain America and writing his own kind of hero when he developed Quasar for his own series and wrote it for 59 out of 60 issues; not only that, but he was the editor of the Marvel handbooks, he himself having an encyclopedic knowledge of all things Marvel), and Dr. Necker who is probably better known to people who read Marvel's UK line as she was the developer of the Minion project in 2020 which ended up becoming the Death's Head II cyborg. So bringing her into current Marvel continuity was fun to see.

And there on the last page was the return of my favorite character. Quasar. Since Annihilation I (and several others) communicated with Annihilation editor Andy Schmidt about who Wendell Vaughn was and why he was our favorite character. And for the first time I realized I wasn't the only one who gave a damn about this character who was pretty much a pacifist surrounded by "heroes" and rolemodels in the 90's who would kill without compunction and every last one of them seemed to be cloned from Wolverine. So we watched Annihilation with a vested interest that since Marvel was bringing its Cosmic legacy back, there would be a place for Quasar... or so we thought. Late into #4 of Annihilation: Nova, we watched in horror as Quasar was murdered by Annihilus. And then later in Annihilaton #6 watched in horror as he was replaced!!! Our fave hero dead we built a forum in which to plant the seeds for his possible return. The group of us started a letter writing campain. We sent a "Quasar cake" to Bill Rosemann at Marvel. One of us sent a 'Bring back Wendell' petition sheet to collect signatures to the Marvel offices.

Yes, we were that small but vocal group of Wendell Vaughn fans you may have read about.

As of Nova $17, it seems we have suceeded. Wendell Vaughn is back!

This issue made my entire month!
