Punchinello replied to the topic is Harley Quinn used or the Joker really love her? in the Joker board. 9:27PM
There's several questions there, I think: it all depends on the writer, really! In some comics, yes; The Joker loves her only because she reflects who he is, so she's another outlet for him to express his narcissism. In other comics, they're more of a toy/game for each other, like Dini & Co reflected in a B:TaS interview, they love pushing each other's buttons to get the other riled up.  And ...

A couple of comics had arrived over the past few days; a Golden Age and a few modern ones. Also, I ended up purchasing Hot Toy's Collector's Edition: The Joker and The Dark Knight Special Edition: Batman figures; they're now on display with the others.I also pre-ordered a copy of the PS3 collector's edition of Batman: Arkham Asylum. That game looks fantastic, but I've stayed away from reading any more ...

Punchinello replied to the topic The Joker on The Batman in the Joker board. 8:48PM
Although nothing can really top B:TAS or hold a candle to that series...'The Batman' is a piece of garbage, writing and animation quality-wise: that depiction of Joker is one of the main reasons why I'll never touch that show.

I eventually caved in and bought them, had to get something in the end; and why not them?

I've been looking for other comic stores online to buy from, but so far haven't come across any really good sites. I'm aiming for the (well, expensive overall) stores that specialize in the vintage Batman comics, such as the 40-50's or 60's. Anybody got any good recommendations? I already know about Mile High and My Comic Shop.

Added two busts to my collection; Hot Toys' The Dark Knight Batman and Joker busts. The new dilemma is whether I should also get my own copies of Hot Toys' TDK figures. You know. The $280+ ones. Not for display; keeping them MIB, but as of this time I'm unsure. From the looks of it, there's nothing else that surpasses in quality, and last I heard Hot Toys ended their TDK ...

I'm not sure that you've read my OP correctly; I, for one, am a RIP hater. There's no such thing as bringing back 'orignal aspects' for the sake of trying to be 'true' to the canon continuity, when those certain aspects should be buried and forgotten because they're laughable. I.E: Bat-Mite. Time travel. Aliens. Joker and Batman swapping bodies because of that laser. It was laughable in the 50's from ...

Any of DC... you know. Doing another (TM) Zero-esque move and completely wiping all of the nauseatingly bad canon as of Batman #663-to-present, and keeping their Joker.. well, in-character and not featured in every single new one-shot or other regular comic title?I miss the days when he was 'rarely' or occasionally used in a comic. If he was used as more than a simple cameo, that comic actually made an ...

I desperately need it =| a new archival solution instead of the Mill Cases stacked in tough plastic boxes out of sunlight/hamrful environment in a normal cupboard.I had paused my comic splurging as of three months ago, from memory, so there have been no new additions ...

Thank you VERY much; that essay quoted the narration dialogue from that comic page,  and stated where it had originated from. Thanks again for the first link of the large scan from DeviantArt; both options made my week =)

Huh; I replied to this yesterday, but apparently it didn't get through...?Anyway; thanks again, that's what I thought; it was somewhere around the 90's, or at least, the very late 80's. Same problem here; hundreds of comics, and that's ONE of the ones I don't own yet, so I only know what it already isn't from!
Punchinello replied to the topic Thought this was worthy of posting in the Joker board. 10:52PM
....Exactly what I was thinking, Croaker!DC characters in a video-game, playable; it definitely gets my attention. But as a beat 'em up? With characters that technically would suck as fighters, IE: The Joker, Maxie Zeus, whatever you can think of; nope. It's just another gimmicky game. If it only involved characters that actually fought with martial arts, then that's a completely different story.

The Ace of Knaves. What else is there to know?

"Of course I try to kill him! Because he's my perfect foe! If I ever killed him, he'd be my im-perfect foe!

And then-- who'd give a damn? It's only through my failure that I know I am sooooo PERFECT!"

I also pre-ordered a copy of the PS3 collector's edition of Batman: Arkham Asylum. That game looks fantastic, but I've stayed away from reading any more interviews, articles and watching any trailers; spoilers ruin good games =/

I've been slacking again in keeping my Batman and Joker comics collection up to date, so when my custom cupboard arrives in a few weeks, I'll count them again. Last time it was still around 465 Joker titles; but I've never counted how many Batman comics I've both owned and read. Of course, it'll be a bigger number. I've got space left now for collecting more of the older issues, Golden and Silver, since I've stopped buying the new crap that DC's publishing after a particular RIP issue. The thing is, it's hard to find golden age comics to buy online where the merchant is actually honest and does not overcharge the value of the comic; or any golden age in any condition for a reasonable price.

My next.. er, mission; is to then count and catalogue how many Batman comics I have ever read, plus how many The Joker comics I have ever read. The 513!Batman titles and 452!Joker titles do not reflect at all in any way on how many total batverse comics I have read. I just simply don't own those ones anymore, hence the 513 number.  The estimated 300 titles still under my desk will certainly jack up the total of read!batverse.

Chirotoperan is going to the comic store today, so I need to give him my new list. I can't go myself this arvo because I've got other things to do at the moment.

As the title states, however I only recommend that you read it if you can also get your hands on a copy of the other issues that are linked to this particular story arc.

The Joker's thugs dressing up as classic or vintage horror film monsters and villains as one of the many amusing features in this story, this chapter of the Joker's film-making plan is a recommend read.

It will make absolutely no sense whatsoever if you have not read the other Detective Comics (in this Knightquest sub-plot) issues.

Not very hard to find, worth the hunt if you plan to complete the small collection; I recommend this issue to all vintage Batman/Detective Comics readers!

I own an original issue of this comic, and I have to say; it's another classic Villains story that's a must read!

A particularly lengthy issue, the story deals with The Penguin forming a gang with his fellow villains on the idea that The Penguin has been receiving special, confidential information regarding a possible future murder of the Batman by various criminals and thugs!

The gang decide to protect the Batman's life from 'behind the curtain', as it were, without letting the caped crusader know of their mission.

The ending has a fantastic twist; which I won't mention since it'll ruin the story!

A very good, classic story about The Joker!

One of the top Joker stories that is simply a must read- I cannot describe this comic without giving away the ending, or massive spoilers.

The story is pretty much what the comic's title is: The Joker decides to become the Batman's 'equal' by obtaining his own utility belt, but Jokerized with flower pellets, a cork (the most important tool), rubber snakes, jumping beans, etc.

You can read this story in various trade paperbacks; notably The Greatest Joker Stories Ever Told if you cannot get your hands on an original issue.

Clearly a pivotal point in The Joker's comic continuity.

There's two ways you can approach this particular comic for an honest, unbiased review.

On one hand: it's certainly got an original storyline and a unique twist to the ending, but on the other hand it's a mediocre (and flawed in some areas) comic.

Firstly: it's designed as a novel. The story is not illustrated like any comic book, with art work plus the narration and the characters' dialogue. The Clown at Midnight is the complete opposite! Text, with some Photoshop/3D art work to accentuate the pages. It may become a nuisance to some readers since the background of the pages is a dark grunge background, so it distracts from the text as well as simply making it hard to read since the small font is black. The cover has absolutely no relevance to this comic regarding art or any illustrations at all.

Secondly: Grant Morrison's writing is hilarious, if not atrocious. Apparently he has a fetish for over-the-top purple prose.'The alarms at Arkham went off like a pack of wolves in heat', anyone?

Thirdly: The penultimate point of the main story is flawed. I cannot describe it here, otherwise it would be an absolutely massive spoiler! You'll know the moment when you read it.

I can't help but feel that at the end, Batman's dialogue and way of words/thinking became very out-of-character, and off-track.

It was a good read if you wish to ignore the run-on sentences, purple prose, an abusive use of similes. His writing for Harley Quinn was brilliant; but if you love good writing skills and an actual 'serious' plot, look elsewhere.
