  • Don't know if anyone around here has checked out the game already, but I've been liking it. I used to be a pretty big fan of City of Heroes, and Champions Online is pretty similar. Make a superhero, and beat up lots of bad guys in a big world! Anyways, it's free this weekend for whomever wants to check it out. You can find me on there as @psychopanda.  http://champions-online.com/node/594649

Rick Jones always seemed like the kid brother you could never get rid of. ;)However, I have to agree that he is perhaps the ultimate sidekick, as he has helped Bruce Banner, Captain America, and even Captain Marvel through some tough times. Bucky maybe extremely loyal and the first...but Rick has him topped.

Discovered these two Malus entries which should be combined. The Deluxe Marvel handbook lists his name as "Dr. Karl Malus", the Master edition handbook lists him as "Doctor Malus". The "Dr. Karl Malus" appears to be more complete, so perhaps that should be the winner and add an alias for "Doctor Malus" just in case.http://www.comicvine.com/dr-karl-malus/29-3143/http://www.comicvine.com/doctor-malus/29-30788/

Same as Superkitty. I just noticed the "disappearing plot summary" happening today, it was working fine earlier in the week. This is a link to a page I edited the Plot on today and got credit (but the plot doesn't show up): http://www.comicvine.com/the-avengers-faithful-servant/37-28219/Also, when editing the Description text on a volume, I get an error pop-up window. "description: This field is required.".Using Firefox 3.x.

  • This looks pretty interesting. A bit surprised that they are going with older costumes for Batman and Green Arrow, yet using the new Blue Beetle. That's okay though, I've liked Brave and the Bold over the years and it will be interesting to see who Batman gets paired up with. :)

Great guy to be around as long as you don't mind the occasional rain of umbrellas, dancing penguins, and animated moth ball colonies. 'Panda's weirdness magnet tends to keep things interesting but can also be a real pain at times.

Things from Another World are fun stores and very family friendly, but some of the clerks don't know that much about comics. Excalibur Comics is great, family run, and probably has the most back issues of any store in Portland.

I tend to buy most stuff online these days though, either Trades through Amazon or single issues from mycomicshop.com. The latter has weekly sales that are pretty good.

I think my favorite comic shop was this frame shop/comic store run by a family. It had a very small front area with custom frames and the first time walked in, I thought I had gone to the wrong place. However, there were some open doors off to the side of the register and they opened into a huge space. Probably 18 folding tables covered with long boxes. It looked like a mini-convention. They also had tons of original artwork stacked up in the back.  I really missed that place when it closed. :(

Much like Batman Begins, I really didn't like what I saw from the trailers (I almost skipped Begins to wait for dvd).

Yet once again they managed to fit everything together into a very nice ensemble. This movie is much stronger than the first, in the same way that Empire kicks butt over Star Wars.

Ledger's performance added the additional credibility needed to pull off a truely grisly Joker, instead of a crazy clown of crime. His performance is inspired by Nicholson's, but Heath takes his Joker to far greater heights. Adding depth and avoiding the campy pitfalls of the previous Joker acts. This Joker isn't just a whimsical madman, he's a clever killer with a point to prove. The writer did a really good job of explaining his motivations...a person who is so disturbed by his inner being, that he seeks to prove his sanity by showing that other people are no different than himself.

I have a few complaints about the film, but most aren't that bad. Mainly Batman's voice sounds ridiculous in some parts (too raspy!). Also...please never show the costume in full light again. The interrogation room scene with Batman and Joker ... the Bat-mask looks big, bulbous, and borderline silly!

Overall very well written movie with great performances by the actors involved. This Batman movie (like the last one) is filled with unexpected surprises, which I have to say is just cool! :)

The first I remember getting as a gift was this one:

Wow, the Vision is cool!
Wow, the Vision is cool!

I thought I had the original appearance of the Vision up until a few years ago when I noticed the date on that particular issue was before I was born! Took me awhile to figure out that this reprint was actually more likely what I had.

After that it was many Spider-Man, Thor, and Human Fly comics from a local used book store. It's hard to say which comic I actually bought myself with my very own money. Pretty sure it was another Avengers reprint, one of the Marvel Triple Action.

The one comic I'll never forget though, is this one that my little brother brought home one day. We read that thing over and over:

The difference between DD and Iron Fist.
The difference between DD and Iron Fist.

Oh the joy of first comics. :)

This was a really fun series for me at the time. I was familiar with Keith Giffen's work, but skipped his Lobo series. Had I read Lobo, I would've noticed the similarities between Lobo and Trencher and probably not enjoyed the Trencher character as much.

Still, Giffen's drastic change in art style really drew me in. Here was an art style I had never seen before. Such depth and volume in each and every panel. Some complained that it looked like someone had thrown up spaghetti on the page. But I wouldn't be detracted as those mass of squiggles told a story to me. I was also amazed that this style could be used to portray a superhero (Shadowhawk) and do it quite well. Some art styles are very interesting, but don't work well for superhero comics. I think this style meshed and I actually liked it better than the art going on in Shadowhawk's own series.

Okay, so how about the writing and the comic?! Well, like I said...if you've read Lobo or Trencher's own series there isn't a whole lot new here. Giffen has a unique sense of humor and you either get it or you don't. Same is true with this comic. The series is basically one big brawl between Shadowhawk and Trencher with lots of damage inflicted on both. Although the damage makes you laugh more than anything as it's all very cartoony. It's really more of a visual treat than anything else.

I'd recommend this to someone who likes some humor in their comics and isn't worried about trying something different for a change (it's only 3 issues!).

Speaking of which, this series was supposed to be longer, with each artist/writer giving their interpretation of the character. Similar to DC's Legends of the Dark Knight. It's too bad that never happened.

Well this issue marks the debut of the ultra-material, Adamantium. Back then it was just one cylinder of a powerful unbreakable metal. Who knew it would become so popular and prolific as to be attached to bones and every other unbreakable object!?

The story is okay in this issue, being a solid Avengers tale of the time. What I really found intriguing though, is the art. This was "Barry Smith", back before he became the pencilling god "Barry Windsor-Smith" who did phenomenal work on the X-men (see Uncanny #205), Weapon X, Machine Man, and several Valiant titles. At this time his art was reminiscent of a Kirby hack, but this issue is magic to me as I see some other influences in there. It's not really Barry's style, but it seems like he's channeling some Jim Steranko. So yeah, this issue is a lot of fun if you like to see the evolution of an artist. It's also quite entertaining if you still have some of that kid in you, and just want to read a fun story about the Vision. One of my favorite characters. Oh, and Ultron-6 makes a splash entrance on the last page. In a form that I had always mistakenly believed to be drawn by Jack Kirby!

I remember wondering not too long ago "How come they never made a Classic Avengers title?!". I like the Avengers a lot more than the X-men, so I've been pretty excited that this series actually came out. The restorations are nice, the Kirby art is fun, and the new Art Adams covers amaze me each time an issue comes out. It's been a nice way for me to stock up on Avengers reprints (without having to pay the Marvel Masterworks price!).

My only regret is that the backup stories have been pretty lackluster. It would've been cool to see some backup stories done by John Byrne, George Perez, Kieron Dwyer, or any of a hundred other Avengers artists.

I hope this series keeps going for awhile!
