Get rid of the common
After reading Roxanne's review, I agree that I hope this comic can sustain itself. But the introduction of Amelia does not bother me at all. You see I think that Tony is more in love with her writing ability than her as a person. Oh she has superb writing ability.   The title of the book almost takes on a new meaning with the introduction of a third main character; people ...

Loose Ends Tied...Heads heal
Invincible #65 seemed like a mad dash to tie loose ends and unravel new ones. The epilogue of the gruesome fight with Conquest leaves Mark broken all over and Eve with bigger boobs? Holy Bloody!...There is a casualty.
The previews stated that there is a casualty. But even with that exciting tag line, this was not one of my favorite Invincible issues because it was the most violent issue of them all up to date. I do not think that there is a panel in this issue where there is not blood. That being said there are basically three characters throughout, Invincible, Conquest, and Atom Eve's body.  This ...

For the first time through I need to fully concentrate. I am trying to learn the character and how to write amazing comics. The second time I can also watch TV.

I usually get all of my comics on a Friday at the end of the month from mailordercomics.com. They do a fantastic job of packaging and the minimum discount is 38% (30% for IDW). Some have up to 50% or 75%. I do not work for them, but found them when my comic shop went under. It is a pain to wait till the end of the month, but it is cheaper.

If they die they should stay dead and not cheapen the reality of stories having beginnings and ends.

How come no comics take place in South or North Dakota? What a shame for they have lower taxes there!

First it would be him over the others because Kyle is kind of weak and too nice, John Stewart is too intense, Guy is a jerk and would get annoying. Hal has gone crazy and then come back. He knows how to balance his personal life with work life (learned the hard way after the Coast City tragedy). He has crazy social skills and would teach me and beat the crap out of me when I needed it. He is kind of like Kilowog except not as intimidating.

The title of the book almost takes on a new meaning with the introduction of a third main character; people chew on her words and words are the one thing that a cibopath can partake of and not get utterly nauseated. Do I like this Amelia woman? Not necessarily (though I love her ability). Do I think that this issue really detracted from the main storyline? Yes. (They are still trying to solve a murder mystery) But I do not care less for Tony now that he has a love interest because he is most attracted to the food aspect of this woman.

What gets me is that Chicken is outlawed. Really?

The whole issue is beautifully drawn though. It is like every panel is a rich bowl of Moose Tracks frozen yogurt. I care about Tony and his battle to solve crimes by using some pretty disgusting methods. So Mr. Layman needs to continue to focus on the unique aspect of this hero's power and not on a pretty mundane and common relationship. Crimes must be solved, so Tony must eat! Chew Tony Chew if you want to sell comics.

That is right those are the two revelations from the fight with Conquest. Normally I appreciate Kirkman's whimsical humor, but allowing Atom Eve to bypass her powers and help Mark defeat Conquest only to have her get bigger boobs? Not cool and just took away from the impact of the story.

If you like Samantha and Mark's relationship then this issue will make you feel all warm inside. They are making out in the hospital then at Rex's funeral (hence the cover, more on that later) and then making love in a separate scene altogether. There relationship in this issue just felt cheap and overdone. In fact Mark spends less time with his mom and Oliver than he does with Atom Eve.

Next we have the funeral for Rex Splode (who has a mini coming out). I felt that Robot's eulogy really helped me to appreciate the character of Rex. It was genuine and raw. RIP Rex (he is not coming back).

Though this issue is mostly tying up loose ends, it does unravel three reoccuring subplots. We see Angstrom Levy and the Astronaut who is possessed by the alien starfish things. Also there is more to Cecil's plan to protect the Earth from the Viltrumites. Man is Cecil a douche.

I would say pick up Invincible 65, but be prepared for an epilouge that feels rushed and focuses too much on Atom Eve. Oh by the way something is happening to Atom Eve (besides the boobs). The ending feels rushed as well. I give it a 3 out of 5.

On to the Viltrumite War and Cory Walker. (I think the team of Ottley and FCO need a break; kind of sloppy this issue guys).

I do not think that there is a panel in this issue where there is not blood. That being said there are basically three characters throughout, Invincible, Conquest, and Atom Eve's body.
This issue picks up right where the last issue left off; in fact the whole Conquest storyline seems to do this. Mark just threatened Conquest because he put a two holes in his girlfriend (one in her face and one in her abdomen). It is never good when you can see completely through someone. Conquest is laughing at Mark's threat and then BAM they punch each other hand to robotic hand.
Conquest's robotic hand shatters and you can make out, but see very clearly in the next panel that Invincible has a compound fracture of his arm (like on the cover of #63). The whole storyline has been gruesome and violent. In fact Kirkman promised in the letter columns that he will never go beyond this point. I think that we as faithful readers of Invincible will understand that the Viltrumite race is a one of violence and blood, but at the same time we know that Mark Grayson's greatest strength has been his compassion.
If you are a new reader to Invincible or want to check it out I might recommend waiting till the next issue due to the graphic nature of this book; it will give you the intial wrong impression. However if you are a loyal Invincible fan, then you find out something very special about Mark Grayson...he is definitely a Viltrumite.
3.5 out of 5 because of the graphic violence and it reads way too fast!. However the cover is one of the best I have seen on Invincible, like issue 11 and the lessons that we learn about Mark will guide the book for many issues to come. I am excited to see the aftermath of the aftermath of Conquest.

Now that the worst crossover in comics in quite some time is over, X-Force writers Yost and Kyle can get the book back on track; that being the dark x-enforcers; the team that does the dirty work. This issue opens up with seeing where X-23 was attempting to get to in the previous issue. I have to say that the previous issue ending was quite perplexing, but then again the whole Messiah War seemed to be an afterthought or a crossover event Marvel quota for the month. Anyway, X-23 was successful in her attempts to get where she wanted but meets some out of the blue opposition by H.A.M.M.E.R. operatives; of course she has some "tactical action" first.
The problem with this issue was getting back into the groove of where Yost and Kyle were originally going. After 3 issues of useless adventures that did nothing to further the X-force storyline, we are instantly thrown back into the continuity, but without Vanisher (who is gone?). It would have been nice to have the beginning of this book happen at the end of issue 13, but...sigh. I nearly sold my whole collection of X-force 1-16 with the Cable mess on Ebay. However, by the end of this book Yost and Kyle have started to put the train back on the tracks and Choi and Oback rock this issue from cover to cover (especially that awesome last page, which was just a treat).
Back to the story: The plot thickens as Bastion, the dude that resurrected all those X-Baddies, is manipulating things at an UN conference. While Hellion, Surge, and Boom Boom all try to stay alive and Wolverine tries to reign in (Arch)Angel. A guest spot by Wolfsbane round out this issue.
If you had serious issues as to the direction X-force was going, I have to admit that the bad taste in my mouth has changed to neutral after this issue. I had forgotten how bloodly this title truly is due to the fact that Wolverine and (Arch)Angel get some quality time with a little "tactical action". A solid 3.5 out of 5. So remember relationships don't just change overnight, give Yost and Kyle a little more time to ask your forgiveness and check this issue out. I mean we all make mistakes...

This is the third part in the storyline CONQUEST. Recap: Invincible is half Viltrumite half human. Viltrumites are very strong. He has been appointed the preparer of Earth by the Viltrumite Empire after Invincible's father, Omni Man, left Earth (after beating his son to an inch of his life). Conquest is a Viltrumite gladiator of sorts that goes to worlds to see the progress of preparation for the Viltrumite takeover. He is currently testing Invincible's readiness. And he is stronger than Invincible.

Part 3 starts with Eve awaking from her coma that occured during the Invincible War in issue 60. The world is still in shambles and the news reports are trying to follow the fight between Conquest and Invincible. They are traveling so fast that no one can keep up. After accidently spilling the beans to her parents that Mark, her boyfriend, is Invincible (silly girlfriends), she immediately looks to engage in the battle.

Omni Boy, Invincible's half brother and Invincible team-up, and Cecil and Eve make appearances during the battle (he is still a douche). However the unfortunate news for Invincible is that there are no other Image heroes to help him. No Savage Dragon, Astounding Wolfman, Youngblood, or Guardians of the Globe.

But I am not going to blow wind up your skirt here, this issue does not end well. Conquest is an amazingly tough foe that during the issue and previous issue 62, puts the beat down over and over on Invincible. The cover alludes to Mark getting his arm broken, but Conquest actually breaks his leg. Who knew that Invincible could have a limb broken. But if you want to know the rest pick up the issue!

The Aftermath of the Invincible War  so far appears much worse for Invincible. His world is in shambles and in Kirkman-like style, the ramifications will not be able to be reversed. Part 4 of Conquest will wrap up the Conquest storyline in issue 64. This issue will continue to change and shape the future of Invincible.

Note: This issue is pretty bloody and violent. Conquest is pretty hardcore.

Overall a 5 out of 5, but one thing I am looking forward to is more dialouge. Ottley's art is really impressive, continually, but the fight scenes take up a lot of the pages. The reality is that this fight is speaking louder than words could, but the issue just flies by. I suggest reading the issue twice because it is that good and quick.

Continuing off of one of the best cliffhanger pages from issue 61, we have the battle begin immediately between Conquest, hence the name for the story arc, and Invincible. They collide and make the standard loud noises that we have seen before, but the next two pages (a double spread) is the effect of their collision into each other-clean up crew workers (because of the Invincible War issue 60) go flying backwards from the impact while Invincible and Conquest are mere dots in the distance.

This issue does not take long to get through due to large "death of Superman" fight panels. What we find is that Conquest, like the female Viltrumite in issue 44, has come to test the worthiness and readiness of Mark in preparing Earth for their eventual habitation. What we also find in the issue is that Conquest loves to feel pain and more so loves to dish it out. He is one tough dude and a bit of a sadist. Well a lot of a sadist...I mean with a name like Conquest you really don't have a bit of anything.

The battle goes through buildings, literally, into space and for  a while you think that Mark might be holding his own. You start to think that this whole Conquest character that Kirkman says is so tough cannot match up to Invincible. I mean he is Invincible, right? Then Conquest gives Mark a look. It is one panel, no words, but you know that the whooping his Father gave him in issue 11 is very soon going to be repeated. And it totally is.

This issue gets a five out of five from me. The character of Conquest is there to teach Mark something about being a Viltrumite, but so far it seems that he is only beating the life out of Invincible. Conquest truly makes Invincible look and feel small. There is also a cameo of Cecil and his current and really sinister plan after the fallout of the Invincible War. Man Cecil is such a douche.

So read Invincible and I know number 63 is out. As soon as I get that I will put another review on if there is not one.
