Most of the Wolverine: Origins comics so far have been history lessons, not giving the creative team much room to make it their own. This one was definitely my favorite W:O issue so far. No flashbacks, just Wolvie and Deadpool duking it out. Although DP looks pretty different than what we are used to with Cable & Deadpool, it works. The fights were pretty awesome, and Daniel seems to understand what it is that people love so much about Wade.

To sum up, I am really looking forward to reading the next 4 issues of "The Deep End", and I can't wait to see what Daniel Way and Steve Dillon do with Mr. Wilson in his new solo series.

The story here is pretty good, it introduces an important character in Maverick's stories, Elena Ivanova. This is also one of the very few times that we get to see Kestrel (John Wraith) in all his glory. The flashbacks of Team X don't tell much new, but they reestablish some things that were already known, Creed (Sabretooth) is a sociopath, and Wolverine hesitated a lot when it came to killing innocents. My problem with this issue is the artwork. The whole issue is very dark, although that fits with the story, but every panel has little detail and mostly seems like a rough sketch. There is a lot of shading rather than full images with shading. I don't know if that is a style that is often used, but this is the first time I have seen it to this extent, and I really didn't like it.
