The First League Hey, this is a pipe dream but if you are reading this blog thank you for indulging me. I love DC Comics. There are a lot of things that have upset me over the years but they upset me because I really care about the product. Marvel is another whole story. Sure they have some great characters that I like, for example Captain America and She-Hulk but for the most part I have never been that interested.
Getting back to the point If I owned DC Comics...
I would reboot the entire line. I know there are a lot of people who hate that but I think It is necessary because DC has bought so many comic universes and have tried to merge them. With mixed results. (see other Blog) (http://www.comicvine.com/myvine/liberty/dc-comics-relaunch-it-is-time-to-do-it-again/87-50919/)By rebooting the whole universe we can merge all these different universes more seamlessly than having a Crisis every five to ten years.
A New Age I would create a new age in comics. To do this I would have to end the current age. I would do this by writing a new story arch where a quasi villain is able to wipe out a characters existence by simply touching them. He would also have a similar personality to Rip Hunter and truly believe he is doing it for the greater good. When this villain touched another character it would mean they never existed. For example what would the DC Universe look like if Batman or Superman never existed? With each character that gets destroyed a new world emerges. Characters would take up mantles of others. People who were once dead would be alive and vice versa. As well as characters changing their moral compasses back in forth due to the experiences of their lives. Costumes would look change. Chaos would ensue. The whole thing would start with the deletion of more of the bigger characters forcing others to take up the slack. It would end with the villain being defeated by a small group of odd heroes who are able to stop the catalyst by wrinkling time and ending their universe knowing that it would begin anew.
All comics would start over. After the last reboot issue the new age would begin and every comic published by DC would start with issue one. No one has ever done this before. It would be unprecedented and start a new age. I would also only start with a few titles like Batman and Superman and have them come out every week until they were well establish and then turn them back into monthly issues. They would also never start over again after this point. For example let's say Booster Gold has a twenty-five issue run and then his series is canceled for ten years. When it is re-released it starts with issue twenty-six. This would be the same for miniseries and everything. This would also create a canon to the comics instead of wonder what from what age is canon or not.
A Golden Age There would be no golden age. The characters would start as if they are entering our universe. Batman and Superman would be the first superheroes ever in this new universe. Jay Garrick would be the first Flash and his costume would be as modern as Wally's is now. Alan Scott would be the first Green Lantern and he would look like the Green Lanterns of today along with being a part of the corps and having a weakness to yellow instead of wood. This would be done with all the golden aged heroes. The first to wear the mantle would still be the first but they would look like they should. This has to be done in order to seamlessly merge the universe. Characters like Wally West and Hal Jordan would eventually show up again as the originals need them to for whatever reason. This would create a true legacy system. It would also end the messed up origins of characters like Hawkman. When Hawkman shows up he will be the first Hawkman. There will not be any mixed up screwed up origins.
I would add Public Domain Characters to the main universe. All Public Domain Characters would be added to the DC Universe and grow with the existing characters. Black Terror would come up fighting crime along side Superman for example. To give another MIss Masque would come up fighting alongside Batman. This would create new super-teams. Imagine having Jay Garrik, Batman, Miss Masque, Alan Scott, Black Terror, Booster Gold, Hawkman and any other combination as the Justice League.
Mixing the Leagues There would be no team titles. Don't panic. Hear me out. Every comic would be Batman, Superman, Booster Gold, Green Lantern: Guy Gardner, or Black Terror They would not be "Batman Detective" Superman in Action" "The Exciting Adventures of Booster Gold", "Green Lantern: Emerald Warrior" or "Black Terror and the Outsiders" for example. All the teams would still exist just as they do today but the would exist in the comic of the main Hero of the Book. So if the Teen Titans were led by Superboy the comic would be called Superboy. There would not be a Superboy and Teen Titans issues. This does not mean that heroes can't be mixed just like they are today it is only a naming thing. DON'T PANIC.
All DC Comics would cease and become under one umbrella. If something doesn't fit it would become part of the mutiverse in the regular DC Universe. The exception would be Vertigo. It would still exist as part of the universe but it would be mature books in the same world revealing the darker side of the DC Universe.
Everything would exist in a timeline. There are a few ways to do this so that the timeline is slower in the comic world than it is in the real world but the point would be characters would age. they would not be like Batman having five Robins grow up while he stays relatively the same age.
No more man-panties. In the New DC universe there will be no heroes wearing man-panties. the briefs would be the same color as the pants. So Superman would wear blue pants Not blue pants with red underwear over them and so on. (see other blog) (http://www.comicvine.com/myvine/liberty/superhero-panties/87-50293/)
Joining DC Comics Characters will be modernized whenever possible. There are many different types of comics and characters. There are War Comics, Horror Comics, Fantasy Comics, Romantic Comics, Western Comics and others. When ever possible these will be incorporated into the modern universe some how, This would be easy with Romantic and Horror comics. Fantasy comics could exist in other worlds or long forgotten times. Many places and characters would fit into the Warlord universe. Western and War comics are a little different. They can only exist in two ways. One is they would have to exist but not necessarily known to the general public like Hex living in the old west as a regular bounty hunter. Other things would have to be modernized, like Sergent Rock. He could exist in the modern world. The Black Hawks would also need to exist in the modern world. No war wheels in the past. The only things that can exist will have to be explained as a missing part of time. The war wheel would be the best example. Something like that couldn't exist as a past marvel.
Well you may not like this and I feel like I left something out. So I may edit this again later. If you are still really against my idea think of the DC Animated Universe. It started from Batman and grew into Superman, Static, Justice League and others. By doing this they were able to make a great world an I don't know anyone who would disagree. Also look at the Ultimate Marvel universe. It would not be just like that but it would have some of the more positive aspects that that had. It is my dream so let me know your thoughts.
