While visiting the Cincinnati Zoo one fateful day, I was bitten by a runaway cobra that had been bombarded by gamma rays and then slithered through radioactive waste! The snake bite, which would have killed a normal human, interacted with my latent mutant ability to transform cobra venom into super powers! I was granted the proportionate power and responsibility of a king cobra!
I decided to use my powers for my own financial gain. I won a large sum of money from an arm wrestling competition and while I was in the bank cashing my check is when my life really changed. Instead of using my new found abilities to stop the criminals, I let them escape. While they were running from the police they murdered my step brothers uncle Ken Barker. I tracked the killers to an abandoned warehouse where I murdered them in cold blood and then stole the money from them.
I learned a valuable lesson by not taking action that day in the bank. If I would have just killed those criminals before they robbed the bank then Ken Barker would still be alive. One of the last things Ken said to me before he passed away was "With great power comes great superiority." In his loving memory I have dedicated my life to the pursuit of pure maliciousness...

Do the writers really expect the reader to believe that Peter Parker is the biggest idiot in the Marvel Universe?
He made a deal with the "devil" because he didn't want his loved ones to be in harms way, so why didn't he make a deal that prevented him from unmasking? That way he would still be married to MJ...
