As I was looking through the Waterstones book shop in the Manchester Arndale Shopping centre this past Saturday (looking for the Peter Parker, Spider-Man: Back in Black volume, after enjoying Spider-Man: Back in Black, incidentally, they didn't have it in, but I digress), I remembered an interest I had recently in wanting to buy some philosophy books as research for a website I want to create.
 
So over to the Philosophy section I went and found these two books. The mere existence of them prompted me to buy them straight away. Their tag-lines on the back reads:
 
Why doesn't Batman just kill the Joker and end everyone's misery?
Can we hold the Joker morally responsible for his actions?
Is Batman better than Superman?
If everyone followed Batman's example, would Gotham be a better place?
and
Are cyborgs our friends or our enemies?
Was it morally right for Skynet to nuke us?
Is John Connor free to choose to defend humanity, or not?
Is Judgement Day inevitable?
 
This seems to be completely my cup of tea, I could read people's opinions on this sort of thing for hours, which is why I joined Comic Vine in the first place. Under that there's a description of what's going on in the book and under that are who's involved in it.
 
Writing for these books are associate professors and assistant professors but the series editor William Irwin, a professor of philosophy (King's College, Pennsylvania) has written on them all. And just by reading who has previously worked on what, "all" means:
 

• The Matrix and Philosophy
• Watchmen and Philosophy
• Star Wars and Philosophy
• Star Trek and Philosophy
• Metallica and Philosophy

and a lot more.
 
So once I've read these books (I've not even started on them and I'm that excited by them) and I'm happy with the content in them I'm going to find, buy and read at the very least the Matrix and Watchmen books. Just wanted to put across how great I think it is that someone has even put the time into writing this kind of book. The one thing that would make a great "and Philosophy" book that I haven't found proof of would be the Ghost in the Shell anime and manga, I'll certainly be looking across the internet to see if it also exists.
