The deliverance of the title of ‘hero’ or ‘villain’ was especially subjective. What one group views as a hero, others view as a villain. One deity however brought new meaning to being on the border for all sides. His name was Kain Echnida. The beast was no mere mortal being; he was the purest life form in existence. His blood untainted, his blood contained traits of all living creatures; from germs to humans and everything in between. Kain had the strengths of all these things, however his attributes lined up more with his vampiric lineage. He knew little of his parents, losing them as a child and spending his life as a nomad, constantly moving around never staying in one place log enough to even call it home. He was constantly on foot, living his life as a hunter and a man cursed.
During the course of his life, the vampire was constantly on the run, often hunted for his power and the simple fact that he was abhorred and seen as some grotesque abomination by the rulers of many kingdoms, but also the high churches and their priests which had more power then any could imagine. Shrouded in chaos, Kain’s life was a bloody one, always in war, constantly feeding to maintain his body and punishing all who defied him along with wiping away all evidence of his arrival in any way possible to throw off those who hunted them although they always seemed to find him.
Being alive for hundreds of thousands of years, Kain had obviously fallen in love many times, with vampires, demons, goddesses and so on and so forth. With him watching each one grow old, be killed or have to kill them himself Kain grew cold. Jaded towards the world, Kain slaughtered millions with his bare hands and whatever else he could use. Slowly but surely he felt something in his heart, an insatiable craving that nothing could satisfy. It was a craving for not for blood, or his sexual appetite; t’was the craving for power. Kain held power for a short period of time when he held an ancient weapon known as the "Xeronexa", the very same weapon that started his lust for power. He was still young when he held it, only a few hundred years old at best.
The Xeronexa was no normal weapon; it was a cursed weapon forged in the deepest fires of hell and made from the same steel Lucifer’s blade was made from. The weapon was a black puzzle box with white engraving. All six sides would bring about a different consequence but the end result was always the same; death and devoured souls. Imbued with powerful ancient magics, markings from the languages of old covered the cube.
The Xeronexa was in Kain’s possession for a little under a month. During his month having it he was in love with another woman, she was mortal and naïve. She had been his lover for close to half a year; gaining his love and his trust faster then ever before. Kain’s body evolved over time, allowing him the ability to modify his appearance by changing his hair color instantly, or making scars appear on his face and body, or even passing along the illusion of missing or extra appendages. During a skirmish with a group of hoods, Kain battled furiously, however despite his valiant efforts, his beloved was slain, taken down by a stray arrow through her hear. Filled with rage, the vampire lashed out, killing everything insight with no mercy.
After killing his enemies, Kain went to his lover’s body and carried her to an unmarked land where he would bury her and allow her essence to become one with the earth again. This recent heartbreak, combined with his taste of power convinced Kain of something. It convinced him of how much he truly required power. He realized how much he lusted for power. But the weapon he currently had would be of no use to him. His natural physical strength in itself was impressive. He pulled out the Xeronexa, its cursed beauty as visible as the sun during midday. He crushed the evil weapon in his left hand, viewing it as weak, as unworthy of being held by him.
Kain’s arrogance led to the next fateful moment; Xeronexa’s essence entered Kain’s body along with the essence of Xeronexa’s opposing force, the Yunalesk. The two weapons were both horrible in their own light. Part of their curse and the magics imbued in them was that should one of the two be destroyed, their essence would go into the more powerful weapon that destroyed their previous container, splitting up should there be more then one of the weapon that was the destroyer. There was a slight problem though… Kain used no weapon, he used himself; his own brute strength. His power, his brash arrogance and ignorance would be the beginning of his power trip. He now had both the Xeronexa and the Yunalesk in his hands, granting him all new power.
The vampire’s previous inclinations of the weapon’s inferiority were proven wrong, even more so once the Yunalesk became part of him as well. Kain went on a search for power, a search to find as much power as he possibly could. The vampire’s thirst for it drove him mad taking him to every corner of the world. He battled with Gods and Guardians, the deities of the elements and so many more. Their power became one with Kain’s; his was vast, virtually limitless. He trained himself in the art of combat in total seclusion. He had done all this in his first thousand years of life. In such a short period of time, Kain achieved far more then most could even begin to fathom. He often snuck around, watching others train and copying what they did. This was how he learned. He eventually combined all those styles into one unique style.
He learned how to combine his powers with his fighting flawlessly. Despite suffering defeat many times, he continued to press onward to achieve his goal of power. He would’ve stopped sooner however he seemed to continue to fail at protecting the ones he loved. The vampire fell for women he seemed connected to; they always seemed to be reincarnations of his first love that seemed to be his one true love. With each death of his beloved, he grew more and more power hungry, getting lost in his rage.
Another major event occurred in Kain’s life. It was the discovery of two new weapons, the most powerful weapons at Kain’s disposal, the blades of darkness and light. They were terrifying weapons with even more terrifying power. There were legends about them however all there were, were legends. They weapons’ discovery was ground breaking for all living being desired the blades. They were held in a massive labyrinth on the outskirts of a small island.
The vampire traveled to the island with his eyes on the prize; the blade of darkness and the blade of light. Arriving at the incredible labyrinth, Kain was forced to traverse the most deadly layout of obstacles anyone could ponder, including a few they couldn’t imagine. Dead bodies filled up the halls; the pungent aroma of decaying corpses invaded Kain’s nostrils as he made his way through. After being in the stone maze for hours, there Kain stood, before a massive stone door with ancient markings on it. Kain slowly walked towards the door to open it when chains shot out of the surrounding area, grabbing him, rendering him powerless and knocking him out.
Kain woke up several hours afterwards to realize that despite this place being the actual resting place of the swords, it was a trap for him. A well-coordinated trap set up for Kain to imprison him, torture him and penance for his sins against humanity. The once unbeatable Kain was taken a prisoner, his shackles changing to bend with the times. He was tortured daily for hours, his only breaks occurred to allow him time to heal up for the next punishment set. This miserable existence of a life continued for over five thousand years. No sound, no sight, nothing. He lived in complete darkness, incapable of hearing or seeing. He could only feel mass amounts of pain. He couldn’t even hear himself scream.
By his fifth thousandth year, Kain’s body was almost completely broken. He hadn’t eaten or had any contact. His sanity left entirely. Kain’s mind was warped, never to heal fully again. He had taken too much to continue being there. Kain felt something in his heart, a very familiar emotion. Hate. This hate was deeper than anything Kain had known. His feral side began to emerge, mutating his body into something else. Two tails grew from his back. The two of them were equipped with blades at the ends, but the blades weren’t normal. They had the capability to bend and twist, to become harder as steel or soft as gelatin. He also grew wings a pair of wings that sprouted from his back, one angelic the other demonic.
The massive appendages helped break Kain out of his prison; his body was free from his steel chamber. He could finally use all his senses. Guards came pouring into the prison, running at Kain with their weapons drawn. The vampire was able to go against his attackers, feeding on each one as they came. After a short battle, he examined his new changes before making his way back to the massive stone doorway. The door seemed to open up as he neared, revealing a chamber full of items. His prize was just within reach, his weapons of infinite power.
The swords were on a mantle, glowing with power. They were both large weapons with insignia on the handles. The blade of darkness was very thick; appearing to have been removed from some kind of guillotine. On the end attached to the handle, black ooze that glistened a dark blue in the light covered the weapon. Four gems with white font were in the sword; a black one, a blue one, a red one, and a purple one. The actual blade however was flawless. Sharp as can be and capable of slicing through anything given enough force. The handle of the blade was long and almost spear like, begging the question if the sword had another form that needed to be unlocked. It was white with four elongated spikes protruding outwards to the top of the blade although they were not very long.
The blade light was very different however. It lacked mass, however it was as sharp as its dark counter part, and just as useful. It resembled a samurai sword, only much longer. There were four gems on this sword as well, however they were with black font and in the center of the weapon. The colors were sky blue, yellow, green and pink. The handle wasn’t very long, very short for maximum leverage. It was pure black, completely opposite to the other weapon.
Alone, both weapons were more then a match, together they could not be stopped in the right hands. Kain grabbed the weapons, darkness in his left, light in his right. He was overcome with power; it surged through him like an entire universe just exploded within him. All kinds of feelings overcame Kain; love, hate, sorrow, and joy. His mind was being split into pieces, more than it was originally. The vampire collapsed to his knees, grabbing his head in agony. He saw images of prisons filled with different creatures, chains and deities. The experience of a million wars shot through his mind along with the knowledge of the universe. He knew what the universe was made of his knowledge was almost infinite. He could sense everything around him. It was as though his mind became open, things such as good and evil were now of no consequence to him, virtually irrelevant in every way possible. The vampire felt so much power surge through him, it was almost more then he could handle. He felt the power of the blades fuse with the rest of the power he absorbed.
This state of definite vulnerability continued for several moments as he adjusted himself to this newfound power. On his knees, the power took the form of electricity circling his body. It was so much to get used to so quickly, yet his will prevailed which enabled to get a grip more hastily than most. Slowly, the titan rose to his feet, embracing this new power. With this new power, he felt something in his heart, the heavy burden of responsibility.
Still unstable, Kain began his own personal war in his head, trying to stay sane, even just the slightest bit. It took all of his mental strength to remain sane without destroying the planet, himself included. Slowly making his way out of the labyrinth, Kain blew it up with just one-word ‘die’. It was a massive fireworks display, seen miles away. His stability, for the time being… was certain.
Kain’s stability did not last very long. A few short months after his the initial obtainment of the swords, his mind finally could not take the burden of the chaos in his mind along with the trauma of his five thousand year incarceration. In a sudden show, Kain’s body split up into two separate entities; Nightmare and Kassol.
Nightmare was Kain’s dark side. Appearing as nothing more than a shadow with glowing red eyes. Maintaining the same general form as Kain, Nightmare spoke very slowly, very deep, and very low. He had two tails as well along with wings. Nightmare held the blade of Darkness in his hand, using it to slay as many as he could.
Kassol on the other hand was Kain’s light side. In contrast to Nightmare’s shadow appearance, Kassol was a body of white light with bright yellow eyes. The sword of light was held in his right hand. Keeping the general appearance of Kain, Kassol would travel the globe in search of villains to smite in the name of the balance, the opposing reason for Nightmare’s actions.
The entities remained separated for over several hundred years, causing vast amount of chaos in their wake. Many fell at the hands of Kain’s separated egos. Somewhere deep in their collective consciousness, remnants of the vampire lord still existed. His influence still influenced the two halves. Using what he had, Kain was capable of subconsciously bringing them together in the same are so that they would be attracted to one another for combat.
Face to face after five hundred years, there was no love lost between them. They immediately charged into combat. The two of them engaged in a battle that raged on for days. Both were tireless and refused to submit to the will of the other. The war ensued in the middle of a city. Hundreds of thousands were killed that day, simply casualties of war. The city was totally destroyed, rubble lay everywhere. Corpses lined up the streets getting lost in the shuffle of things. The streets ran red with blood, as if they were of no consequence to the warriors.
An odd force was at work. It used the fury of their fight to gather enough energy to make itself stronger, to make its will undeniable. Nightmare and Kassol were stopped in their tracks almost instantly. The opposing forces were slowly brought to one another and appeared to be absorbing one another. Scream of terror filled the area, scream that were followed by a massive explosion. The entire city was annihilated, wiped almost entirely clean. All that was left of the metropolis was a crater and at the center of this crater was one figure. It was Kain.
Kain had finally returned to Earth, more powerful then ever. His personality separation was exactly what was required for a full psychological recovery, along with a better understanding of his weapons. Kain’s power was now more complete then ever. His body had undergone a change. His two tails became especially powerful, growing longer and with a longer blades as well. He now had more then two wings, he currently had six; three on each side. The wings on his left side were like dragon wings while the ones on his right were angelic, bird-like. His left eye was entirely black with a red pupil while the right was white with a bright yellow pupil. An extension of his fangs occurred along with an odd glowing in his hands.
For next hundred thousand years, Kain tried to understand this power he had been given, learning that he was what was called "The Scion". Being The Scion, Kain had the responsibility of maintaining the delicate balance of darkness and light. He had access to the eternal prisons that held the most powerful inhabitants imaginable captive. These things were all at Kain’s beck and call should he need them for combat or to capture a violator of the balance for eternal imprisonment.
The Scion eventually began having memories, thoughts of things that happened to him while he was split up during his repair of the balance. So many innocent killed, so much blood on his hands. No amount of water could purge Kain clean of his sins. These memories distorted his responsibility, causing him to cause larger rifts that he would be forced to fix.
One memory in particular caught his attention; the memory of a beautiful woman that he fell in love. Kain felt an odd connection to her; similar to the connection he felt with his other beloveds. Questioning who she was, Kain went further back into his memories, recalling what significance she had. After a few moments he remembers, she was the one he loved right before the meltdown. He tried figuring out what happened to her when he remembered what exactly happened to her. Nightmare killed her. Kain himself killed his beloved Cecilia.
The vampire’s eyes watered and in a fit of rage, all his power began to surge through him. Kain’s broken heart began so intense that he discovered his secret weapon, the most powerful weapon at his disposal. It was called The Celestial Eye. The Celestial Eye was an eye on his forehead that wasn’t exactly an eye; it was an energy construct that would fire a massive beam of dark and light energy. The beam’s power would vary depending on Kain’s desire.
At this moment he had one desire; to die and destroy everything with him. Kain focused as much as power as he could into this beam, firing it at the universe itself. The attack was incredible, it could be seen from everywhere in that galaxy although the beam would destroy the Universe. Kain’s eyes cried blood, his skin burned and bones felt as though they would turn to dust but he did it. The universe was destroyed.
Despite destroying the Universe, Kain did not die. Instead, he was thrown into another Universe, a completely different universe at that. Of course he spent several thousand years in limbo, conscious, but not entirely. Once he was shot off into this new Universe, Kain was a bit more stable, able to play his role as Scion more effectively.
Kain lived his life this way for years, and in this new Universe, in this Earth he inhabited, it was the year 2009. Sporting a new look amongst the many he wore during his lifetime. Kain was virtually a shadow in this world, in this reality. Remaining highly unknown. Very few knew of him and even less survived encounters with him. Kain desired a way to break the bonds of his weapons for the responsibilities of Scion shackled him from living his life, from being a free creature. A slave to fate, Kain’s only option was to maintain the balance until he could find a way to be free. Guardian of Balance? Nay, he was a Slave of Balance.
During the journey to attain freedom from his prison, the vampire was responsible for the deaths of many. The slaughter of any and all who stood in his way. His sanity also reached an all time low because of the events that occured. During one fateful incident, a group of vampires known simply as "" took the side of their own overconfidence and arrogance over their common sense and dared to challenge Kain's power. A couragous move, no matter how foolish and illogical. Being the proud being he was, Kain took their challenge, their defiance as a personal insult and began a new journey. The journey he now engulfed on was taking their heads and of course, their power as well.
There were twelve leaders to this vampire group and enough lesser members to populate a piece of land in Europe about the size of Manhattan. This was an ancient cult of vampires that believed in the old ways and lived stuck in a simpler time, the dark ages. There were no guns in this land, only swords and axes.
Kain eventually found this forgotten land and was greeted by a small army of vampires. They all tried to do battle with him, each falling like his brother before him. Brown mud became a crimson cream. The scion's skill was astounding. In this one skirmish with his opposers, he wiped thousands of them out, using nothing more then his unarmed combat skills; no swords, no scion power, nothing.
Walking through forests and caves, the journey eventually led Kain to a massive Tower in the middle of the land. The tower was where he would finish off this cult. This group of old timers and feast on them; only to increase his own power. As he traveled through the Tower he demonstrated his own form of fighting like never before. His divine combination of strength and speed was overwhelming. He performed feats that would give the most talented acrobat trouble with ease and yet was able to hit hard enough that his blows would often penetrate the opposing combatant's body and skull. He painted the walls red with blood and entrails; his face was painted as well.
The high lord of the cult was a being named Malek. Malek was revealed to have just as much power as Kain for he too went through extended periods of time in which he lusted for power. The two battled ferociously as though two different fires were fighting for dominance. The sheer shockwaves of their battle began to tear apart the foundation of the Tower. Both vampires were taken to their limits. Kain was forced to dodge lightening fast fireballs by running along the side of a wall and unleashing combinations that were beyond human ability to fathom.
After a long and difficult battle with Malek, Kain emerged victorious by being able to simply outlast his foe. Malek made attempts at firing projectiles at Kain however the scion was far too much. He moved so fast that his movements seemed like teleports because he would be in one position at one point only to appear several feet away in less than the blink of an eye. He reached down drained Malek of his power, securing his position of power as the dominant vampire. Showing those lesser blood-suckers who he was. His name was forever remembered in the books of the vampires for his name brought death and pain to all who defied him. He became feared in the vampire community although there were a few who worshipped him and others who lusted for him.
Powers:
Kain has wide variety of powers, a long list of things that he was capable of. Firstly, Kain was a master at hand to hand combat, creating his own fighting style that was never before seen, utilizing his tails and wings as well. The Scion also mastered armed combat with guns, swords, axes, hammers and the like.
Kain’s body was different then most for he had absorbed so much energy. Without all his power, Kain could lift over one thousand pounds with one hand, that’s before he absorbed so much power over the years. Courtesy of absorbing Xeronexa and Yunalesk, Kain could generate up to twelve different enchanted steel weapons from different parts of his body (weapons that were sentient forms of life). Straight swords, curved swords, and scythes could be spawned from his hands, arms and feet. A large set of black and white spines that would take the shape of wings would jettison from his back, not only impaling his enemies, but also capable of vibrating at high speeds to create a deafening sound due to the high pitch. The vibrations would also cause the spines to rip apart whoever was caught in them. They could spread like wings, or be closed enough to act like a sail, depending on Kain’s wishes. Massive spikes could erect themselves from Kain’s back as well. A very unique power that he was given was a bubble gun. The bubble gun was special for it had a variety of purposes. The bubbles it generated could be energy bubbles to damage, or acid or incendiary or even explosive. Some of them could also play the role of just sticky explosives. A set of jaws could be sent from Kain’s chest to grab an enemy as well along with fire energy beams or more bubbles. Another secret weapon despite it not exactly being a weapon was Kain’s magnificent throne. It was large, made primarily of a powerful silver with black engraving. The throne could appear anywhere Kain desired but could also be used as a weapon given enough initiative. From his arms, Kain was also able to create a large shield with jagged edges that could be used to defend himself from attacks, cut his foes or just hit them with blunt force. There were also whips, and barbed wires that Kain would generate to snag his foes. The last things he would generate were a mystery in themselves.
Kain’s swords (aside from being sentient life) were capable of allowing him the manipulation of darkness and light, including their energy forms. He could absorb the slightest amount of those energy forms as a means to deal with attacks that would deal severe damage. The swords enabled him the ability to create energy constructs, limited only by his mind. The possibilities for attacks were limitless with Kain. His swords allowed him the ability to summon creatures from the realms of darkness and light.
Overall, Kain’s physical prowess is incredible, his strength, speed and durability are excel that of a God. However like the rest of his power, he is limited. As smaller powers, he can generate lightening from his body along with intense flames. A side note of his power is that Kain impervious to any manipulation of his body. His body acts normally no matter how much manipulation it undergoes.
Weaknesses:
Kain’s only weaknesses are the fact that his bonds as the Scion often limit how much power he can use. However he has only himself to blame for his complete disregard for the balance when he destroyed the Universe. His mind can be toyed with, however not without great consequences. At times when in a severe emotional distress, Kain can break his bonds and use his maximum power that is undeniable. A secondary weakness of Kain is heat. He can withstand unbelievably intense levels of heat for extended periods of time (the heat in the center of the sun) however it's not his outside that he worries about heating up. It's his insides, his core that he worries about heating up. His core heats up when he overworks himself during a battle or when he engages in highly physical activity. During this time of heat up, Kain's reaction speed slows down, his strength decreases considerably and his eyes begin to distort. The only way his body can cool down is if he is either given time to cool down or if he feels a cold embrace.
Appearance:
Kain's appearance usually doesn't remain the same for very long. He has the ability to change his appearance from scars to hair and eye colors and even the sound of his voice. His favorite colors are black and white; a color scheme that he usually sticks to unless trying to remain completely untraceable.
Currently, he wears a black leather trench coat with an almost tiled pattern. Beneath the trench he wears a white body suit with a black vest over it that has white trim along with silver straps on it. His sleeves are rolled up to just an inch or two below his elbows. The white sleeves of the body suit overlap the black sleeves of the trench. A black pair of pants covered his legs with a silver belt along with black boots. There was something special covering his half his pants and the majority of his boots though. It was special leg armor that began at the knee all the way down to his feet. The armor seemed to be composed of small blade like structures. The miniature daggers protruded outwards. The bottom of the armor, the foot area had talons dipped in poison. They were capable of slicing through even the armor of a tank. The trick behind the talons was that they would need to be need to be ordered by Kain to slice. He also wore black gloves that were half cut at the thumb, index and middle fingers. To add to this, a pair of sunglasses covered his eyes from the world to make him that much more of a mystery.
