  • They can't cancel Atlantis!!I'm always happier with Stargate when it is the team of four (Jack, Daniel, Teal'c and Carter is still the best) and their adventures. The space stuff, though well done, has never been as good as that. I love Star Trek, but I want Stargate to be Stargate. Still, I will probably watch it, I just hope it lives up to earlier series.

Meteorite said: "This is unfair on Marvel- they thought up of the idea first!"Cryptic did it first with CoH. Marvel had their chance and for whatever reason didn't go through with it (I think there were arguements about wether you'd play as a Marvel hero or make your own) and that game became Champions. DCU Online was announced at about the same time as I recall.

While you can't be a Green Lantern (yet), your powers can have a strong similarity. One of the demo characters was making blue constructs with a ring. I don't think that ties to the Light War or the other Lantern Corps, it's just an ability. I think you'll have to figure your own backstory. It's in this video:

One extra bit on DCUO's costume creator, you have the option of either going unique or using a DC character as your inspiration. What exactly that entails, we'll have to wait and see.

Maybe somethings should stay secret
Maybe somethings should stay secret
I've never hidden my comic geekdom, even before X-Men and Spider-man films helped make it cool. I was known as Spider-man at school and most of the places I've worked I've been known as Superman. It's never been a problem, in fact it usually gives me something to talk about when I meet new people because everyone knows who Superman and Batman are.

I can't remember the chain of events, but I found myself clubbing in a Green Lantern T-Shirt a little while ago. It started no end of random conversations with people through the night, I've never been so popular then with Hal Jordan as my wing man!.

I do keep my Zatanna obsession to myself though because it is just creepy.

I nearly called this blog "Nergasm", but I thought that was a little vulgar. Anyways, after Cryptic, the people behind City of Heroes, dropped their Marvel MMO, things went a little quiet. While I was looking forward to their Marvel efforts, I'm now happy that DCU Online will be getting the spotlight. I am also happy, because they have more time for working on this:

Space, the final frontier...
Space, the final frontier...
Yes, it's a Star Trek MMO! It was in development at another studio, but Cryptic have taken over and reannounced it. According to Cryptic Studios' executive producer Craig Zinkievich, the game takes place in 2409, about thirty years after Star Trek: Nemesis. This means that while events and characters from the shows may be referenced, you won't be experiencing them, but instead living your own adventure. As you gain ranks, you'll be able to access better ships and better upgrades for them, with which you'll be able to "seek out new life and new civilizations."

It all looks very interesting and Cryptic is a trusted name in MMOs. This could be where I go when I need to hang up my cape for a little while and beat up some Klingons instead.

A new production video is up for the Watchmen movie. This one shows the production of Owlman's giant egg-shaped vehicle.

More mainstream, but this is fan-made, it's the Batmobile! I think the first photo also shows us Batman's secret hiding place in case he loses his utility belt.

Sexy mutant ninja, what's not to love?
Sexy mutant ninja, what's not to love?
I am going to have to go with the sister of our national icon, Captain Britain and say Psylocke. Lots of characters change their costumes in an effort to stay up to date, but only Betsy Braddock changed her body too.
Betsy with her brother Brian, the one who isn't mad.
Betsy with her brother Brian, the one who isn't mad.

Lots of superheroes have problems, but Psylocke really manages to attract trouble. Whether it's her reality warping and insane brother Jamie, alternate versions of her twin, Brian, Mojo kidnapping her and replacing her eyes, having her body swapped, her powers changed once a fortnight and all manner of other nightmares. Through it all though, Betsy has gone from distressed sister of a superhero in her Captain Britain days to one of the toughest X-people I can think off. She has even taken on the mantle of Captain Britain in her brother's absence.

Few X-Men can handle Emma Frost's barbed tongue, but Betsy did just after being resurrected by her mad brother and kept her cool. I would have liked to see her stay on in the X-Men, but Marvel put her in the Exiles where she continued to be the greatest.

It was Jim Lee's version that I first noticed Psylocke with her ninja skills and unique strappy costume. Tough as Wolverine (and much better looking) and witty and sexy as Emma Frost (without the bitchiness), Psylocke is the best X-Man. Ever.

JLA #61
JLA #61
As I was thinking about this, a few Alex Ross covers came to mind. Marvels, Justice, Kingdom Come, Action Comics, JSA all feature his work and instantly became classics in my eyes. For a little while, I was trying to pick between his covers.

However, this cover to JLA 61 really came to define my favourite incarnation of the Justice League for me. I know there are better covers, even within this volume, but when I think of the Justice League, this image comes to mind first. So of all the covers, this is the one that has stayed with me the longest.

The combined efforts of Scottish legends Frank Quitely and Grant Morrison come together for one of the most entertaining Justice League stories of recent years. While the plot lacks the complexity of some of Morrison's JLA run, this isn't a bad thing. The plot moves quickly enough to be a great ride and allows for some nice twists. Like any story involving "evil twins", this contains some character study of DC's big three. This would not be a Morrison story though if it did not feature some questioning of the nature of reality and this is no different. Fortunately for the more casual reader this time round he keeps it relatively simple, so you won't feel left out if you aren't a physicist or a philosopher.

Quitely's art is up to his usual high standard as readers of the more recent All Star Superman will have experienced.

All in all this is a highly entertaining book and definitely worth a look, even if you are not a Justice League fan or are a new reader looking for some background for a taste.

Legendary artist, Alex Ross, teams with writer, Kurt Bursiek, to deliver the history of the Marvel Universe from the perspective of one of it's more normal inhabitants. Issue 4 deals with a more personal story than previous issues as it looks into the life and death of Gwen Stacy. Sheldon helps Gwen investigate the death of her father, blamed on Spider-Man by the media, and in doing so sees the Marvels with the awe that she does as Atlantis invades New York. The death of Gwen Stacy was something of a watershed in comics. This was one of the first times a superhero (Spider-Man) had failed to save someone and Sheldon's shock as he waits to capture Spider-Man's victory on camera reflects that of the readers of Amazing Spider-Man #121. The art is amazing, of course, as is the writing and there is the usual references to other events.

Legendary artist, Alex Ross, teams with writer, Kurt Bursiek, to deliver the history of the Marvel Universe from the perspective of one of it's more normal inhabitants. Issue 3 deals with the Avengers and Fantastic Four saving the planet from annihalation. This all culminates with the arrival of Galactus and Sheldon's increasing disbelief at New York's lack of gratitude to the heroes that defend her. The artwork here is stronger than earlier issues, though that may be because of how spectacular Galactus and the Silver Surfer are (Tim Story take note). The writing is also strong and of course there are references to things happening elsewhere in the Marvel Universe.

Issue 2 deals with the arrival of the beloved Avengers and the Fantastic Four as well as the feared X-Men. Again, we observe the action from the sidelines with the hopes and fears of New York's ordinary citizens. During the creation of this project, Ross and Bursiek realised that the wedding of Reed Richards and Sue Storm must have occured the same day as the sentinel attack and subsequent anti-mutant riots. The irony is not lost on the protagonist, Phil Sheldon as he hides a mutant child from his hostile neighbors.

Legendary artist, Alex Ross, teams with writer, Kurt Bursiek, to deliver the history of the Marvel Universe from the perspective of one of it's more normal inhabitants. Issue 1 deals with Marvel's "Golden Age", from inventor Phineas Horton's creation, The Human Torch (not Johnny Storm) to Captain America and the superhuman intervention in World War 2. There are numerous references to events in a number of comics that many readers won't be aware off as they were first printed in the late 30s and early 40s. This is a first step in the authors' efforts to chronicle the events of the Marvel Universe and is a spectacular start. Alex Ross's art is amazing and this was one of the comics that helped to make his name within the comic book community. The art is of a standard whereby this book could just be looked at to be enjoyed. The story is well written and helps to immerse the reader in the early days of the Marvel Universe at street, rather than rooftop, level. Bursiek also provides an amusing early look at J. Jonah Jameson, before he is editor of the Daily Bugle.
