We all have trade paperback (TPB) collections we'd like to see. Here's one of mine:

Proposed Title:Masters of the Universe.
Alternate Title:He-Man & The Masters of the Universe.
Collecting 5+ Issues:
  • DC Comics Presents #47, 51.
  • Masters of the Universe #1-3
  • MOTU 11 mini-comics
Covers: (click to enlarge)
TPB Cover: Masters of the Universe #1
TPB Cover: Masters of the Universe #1

DC recently took on Masters of the Universe again, and in 2012, we have seen both a He-Man and the Masters of the Universe mini-series, and a one shot called Masters of the Universe: The Origin of Skeletor. When they first obtained this property again, you may have seen reference to a much earlier effort from DC - the 1982 mini-series Masters of the Universe. Wouldn't you like to read it in its entirety though? I would...um, again, that is. I did read it off the rack, when it was being released.

He-Man and the rest made their DC debut in DC Comics Presents #47, four months ahead of the mini-series' sixteen page preview, in DCCP #51 (and every other DC comic for November of 1982). The next month, the mini-series came out, and before we knew it, it was gone. The 1982 series was much like the cartoon - decent looking characters with very little substance. Still, as far as Masters of the Universe goes, this particular series is historically significant. It's the first MOTU comic book. DC also produced eleven mini-comics, which were packaged with the original action figures. There wasn't much to them, but it would be cool if they were added to the TPB, if for no other reason, so they could be seen in full comic size.

A trade paperback collection of this series now would coincide well with the current series being produced by DC, and would just be a fun look back at their previous work on the franchise. For the cover, nice and simple, I'd go with the cover to MOTU #1, although any of the three mini-series covers would be fine.

Would you buy it? Let me know in the comments, and thanks for reading.
