We all have trade paperback (TPB) collections we'd like to see. Here's one of mine:

Proposed Title:Ultraverse: Black September.
Alternate Title:Black September.
Collecting 9 Issues:
Covers: (click to enlarge)
TPB Cover: Black September #∞
TPB Cover: Black September #∞

Marvel's purchase and burial of the Ultraverse is what made me call Marvel "The House of Ideas That Go Bump in the Night" (that's probably only funny to me). However, another title for this TPB might be Black September: The Beginning of the End of the Ultraverse. Although tongue-in-cheek and maybe a little crass, that's not inaccurate. All Ultraverse titles were completely gone in under a year-and-a-half of this story arc, including crossovers, with the exception of Exiles, which re-started over at Marvel with a new first issue in 2001. I wonder how much Marvel paid for the Exiles title?

In fairness, I found this quote on wickedpedia [sic] about an Ultraverse revival (the original article was no longer available on Newsarama):

"In June 2005, when asked by Newsarama whether Marvel had any plans to revive the Ultraverse, Marvel editor-in-chief Joe Quesada replied that:
Let's just say that I wanted to bring these characters back in a very big way, but the way that the deal was initially structured, it's next to impossible to go back and publish these books.
There are rumors out there that it has to do with a certain percentage of sales that has to be doled out to the creative teams. While this is a logistical nightmare because of the way the initial deal was structured, it's not the reason why we have chosen not to go near these characters, there is a bigger one..."

Obviously, although Marvel's involvement did kill the Ultraverse, they didn't intend for that to happen, so Black September was their attempt at integrating the Ultraverse into the Marvel Universe. For that reason alone, I find this story mildly intriguing, and found all of the single issues in the quarter bins. Still, I wouldn't mind seeing a TPB of this story. That probably won't happen until they can work around the Ultraverse buyout deal, but it's a nice idea.

For the cover, I think the only choice is Black September #∞. Although if you must have a picture, the cover to the BS Preview Book might be a decent choice.

And don't forget that any TPB of Black September would need all of the cover art, both the black covers (above) and the picture covers (below):

Would U Buy It? Let me know in the comments, and thanks for reading.
*UPDATE July 17, 2022: I don't commit most creator facts to memory, so I had forgotten that Gerard Jones is the guy that was convicted of having child porn on multiple electronic devices. So, the probability of his work being reprinted is nil. For this proposed collection, he wrote or co-wrote: Black September Preview Book, and Prime: Infinity, so we'll probably never see this TPB. There are consequences for crime though, and if comics have taught us anything, it's that misdeeds must be paid for.
